Best wedges on the market?

I absolutely love my Scratch 8620 wedges. Great looking wedges with amazing feel and a lot of spin. The sweeper/slider grind is perfect for me...they've really helped my short game.

Scratch wedges range from $99-$350 depending on the type.

I love my alphas with KBS wedge shafts in them. They are also really really ridiculously looking. They are black with the charcoal shafts. I like them more than my vokey's, and my scratches. The only thing to me in the same ball park is the Mizunos.

Nike makes some pretty sweet wedges - the VR Forged felt amazing and were probably the most "spinny" wedges ever made.

The VR Pro Wedges are great as well.

Of course Vokeys are Vokeys - Love them. The 588s is the fugliest things ever - I like I saw a piece of chrome on the back of the club where cleveland forgot to put text.

I don't like the Ping wedges, hated the Cobra trusty rusty, hate the adams wedges, taylor made wedges are pretty sub par as well - The Mizuno R12s are nice along with the jaws.


In other words - just buy something that looks nice and practice with it.

Another vote for the old 588s. Have not gamed the new versions but the looks dont seem to be the same. I dont have a problem playing vokeys or jaws or anything else but the 588s just ooze playability.

I Know this is crazy but I have play the same set of Tom Watson Adams wedges 56&60 for about 7 years now and I still love them. I cant get them to spin much any more but have no problem stopping the ball. I am pretty sure they came as a box set. Crazy but cant seem to replace them.

My teaching pro told me when I took a bunker lesson that wedges are wedges. After going through so many wedges, I must say I agree with him. Personally, of all the wedges that I had, I liked TM RAC wedges best. But they are all about the same.

Hilarious how strong people's opinions are on here. "Scratch/Miura/Whatever is the best and everything else is garbage!" Uh, no, you're just a fanboy. I play Vokeys, but I'm sure my game wouldn't change much if I had any of the others mentioned here. The pros on the PGA Tour seem to get by fine with many different kinds of wedges. Technology has a much smaller impact on wedges compared to something like a driver, it's all about the player's skill. I understand this is an equipment forum and people like to dissect things, but try to keep it in perspective.

So to answer the OPs question, and I know this isn't what you were looking for, there are no fewer than a half a dozen choices that could be great for you. Try a few out, pick one, stick with it, and get good with them through practice.

These are in my bag but...

When it comes to premium wedges out there right now, it's hard to go wrong. Find your preferred loft/bounce setup, and a finish you like, and you're probably good to go. I could see myself gaming wedges, with no reservations, from:

Callaway
PING
Mizuno
Titleist
Cleveland
Scratch
Miura

...and the list goes on.

I play Vokeys but have been lusting after the Mizuno R-12s for a few months. Finally bought a 56 last week and it immediately knocked the Vokey 56 out of the bag because it has a C grind whereas the Vokey does not.

I have had two sessions with it. Still have to put it through all the paces to see if I will buy a 52 to replace a 52 Vokey which DOES have a C grind (custom).

So far, I love the R-12. Was hesitant about the Spinner shaft but after hitting it, big thumbs up. Not sure I want it on the 52, though, would probably go with Project X or DG, but we'll see.

Tried Vokey TVD(X100) and Nike X3X Wedges(PX 6.5), not nearly as much spin compared to the older grooves.

If you're looking to learn about wedges, you need some forethought and pose better questions. Asking better questions gets better more informed answers. At best, your current question gets what someone uses. Not why they use that club, or the clubs specs; not even if they are skilled at using their wedges. IMO there is NO best wedges. Its about how someone plans on using them, course, etc.; style of play, budget and skill.

Kinda bring to mind the guy that drives a perde Carrera 4, yet doesn't really know about the car, much less how to handle that car, if he had to. But ask him what the best car on the market is, he'll say what he's driving, just won't know why its really the best car.

Anyone gives a straight answer to that question is blowing personal smoke up... I still play a LW with old fashion "V" grooves (conforming) DGS200 at D9, and spin the ball with the best of them. Why, because spin is the result of technique. Grooves do nothing more then assist, much like shaft profile.
