This is the one Sergio is using I am pretty sure. When I was watching him hit driver at the Bridgestone I couldn't believe how small his driver looked to my eye and then I believe Willpeoples made a post about this version shortly after that
At 42.5 inches no less. Heard Costas talking about the length during the broadcast.

Um.... Really hot 2 wood?

Not a bad idea.
What 42.5 Driver? Really? Can't be that short can it?
Sergio plays a very short driver due his unique swing. Rather than generating speed with a longer shaft, he does it with his super amount of LAG. He found that the longer shafts that most everyone else on Tour plays actually made it more difficult for him to execute his normal Lag swing and led to inconsistency. If you look at how narrow Sergio is on the downswing you can see how a longer shaft could make him "late" at impact as he trys to whip the head through the ball. A shaft any longer throws his timing off and could actuallly reduce his speed.

Sergio is just very unique in this regard. Nobody else generates that much lag.

I knew he creates a ton of lag as they went through it in the tourney he won but never knew his driver was that short. Always thought it was 44.5. Makes it even more impressive that he gets the kind of distance in that short a shaft no matter how much lag he has.m crazy.

You gotta be kidding me....Is this like the 4th R11? Never will I play a club from this joke of a company. How many drivers have they put out since Titleist released the 910?

I feel the hate.
.... let the hate flow through you....
Not so sure hate is the right word. I am as big a cluboholic, although mainly irons,as anybody and love new stuff but typically it;s just another $400 for basically the same thing sans a cc or two. Guess it's all relevant to who buys them.

Been hitting the R510tp with a phenom 80 tour x for 2 months now must be ahead of the game and not behind the times.

How can you tell the difference between a tour issue head and retail?

There is no retail V3. The difference (mainly) is in size. These are also marked with T serial numbers.

Much smaller. Even smaller than the R11 dot head. This one is 390 cc. Ill try to take some comparison pictures tonight.
Does 390cc sound a bit familiar? It should....That is the same volume size of one of the greatest drivers ever made. So rather than buy this new driver, just put that 390cc R510-TP back in the bag. Remember it is one driver you just couldn't bring yourself to part with, so you stashed it away in your closet or garage thinking I just might need it again some day.

WELL TIME TO PUT IT BACK IN THE BAG! In fact, that is probably what Sergio would really like to do, but unfortunately he has a contractual obligation with TM requiring him to play the latest "new white model". Looks like TM is finally giving Sergio and perhaps others what the best players really want...SMALLER DRIVER HEADS! Expect this trend to continue. (Huge heads were never such a great idea to begin with).

Long Lives TaylorMade's R500 Series Drivers!

I also think more clubhead speed can be generated due to the smaller footprint. The main difference between the 510 DF and the r11 V3 will be forgiveness IMO. The Ezone 380 is a hot driver too.

 • 2 months later...

Want a smaller head? I'm building a pestine Titleist 905T (400cc) shafted with a brand new white RIP beta and my total money drop is....wait for it....$120 out the door. Both the shaft and head are brand new and at 390cc's I promise this V3 isn't one ounce better. Wow that felt good, never toss out the non-conformist post...BB :)

Nice snag Ben. I hope it works well for you. On the other hand, I lucked into a v3 head around the first of October and waited patiently for a Miyazaki JDL to come in about 3 weeks later. In the interim, I put a non-tour spec Speeder 6.2 in it and compared it to my J40 430 with the same shaft. In short, the J40 was a bit longer with 340 RPM less spin. Now the v3 head was set at 9 and 1.5 open while the J40 is 8.5 (8.7 actual) and is 1.0 open. Fast forward to the arrival of the JDL and the spin is down almost 400 RPM and launch is 11.7*.
I'm still playing around tweaking it a bit and getting accustomed to how it acts but with Christmas visits and the weather turning for the worst, I'm kinda at a standstill. So far it's a workable fairway finder that's as deep as the J40. I bagged a R510TP for two years and it's still my favorite head of all time. I'm not yet convinced the v3 is gonna be the next coming of the 510, but it IS a very solid and forgiving head. Time will tell, I guess.

Merry Christmas y'all.

Sounds sweet, I was just goofing around, trust me I'm a huge HO with no room to talk. I'm at this point now where things are actually feeling maxed out and genetric so I'm rummaging around making finds and comparing them to my high dollar newbies. Funny thing, I'm having fun doing it and that's what matters in the end. There's this strange joy in having playing partners dig around in my bag and find 10yr old clubs when they know darn well I have the latest and greatest sitting in the basement. I'll tell ya this, some of these old timers pack a mean punch when combined with current (vastly superior) shafts...BB

I know what you mean. I have a 8.5 J33r 420 that's impatiently waiting for a 6.2x tour spec. My only hesitation is I'm afraid I may really like it and have to get back into hitting the center every time.

Its 390, it was confirmed to me today. I dont think I would believe anything BSG says... haha.
So the latest "white head" is exactly the same size as the R510-TP...Gee what a coincidence! Of course the R510-TP set such a high standard that one has to wonder if this new "white" model could possibly be equal, much less better. I really have my doubts since adding adjustablility to a clubhead actually puts weight in less than optimal positions for maximum performance. (I do concede that adjustablility can help to fine tune the fitting however).

But come on now....$849 for one of these "white" ones? Thats just crazy expensive.

My gut tells me that if you don't already own a R510-TP then you need to take the poor man's option and buy one of those before foolishly dropping $849 for this new 390cc "white head". Plenty R510-TP's on ebay to choose from at bargain prices and the the R510-TP is the 390cc head from TM PROVEN GREAT over time. It remains the "Holy Grail" for many to this day, and for good reason!

510 tp was and is a great head I still have a couple including a sweet 7.5. But that said, really no comparison between the 510 tp and the r11s v3. While I am not keeping my v3, it is not because of performance issues. The head is very anti left for me and that is just not what I am looking for. Sure I could probably mess with my weight setup and face angle but I just have too many toys.

can't afford to spend on another TM driver release , but agree that R510 tp is still a 'go to club' at the start of my tournament season,

off season I mess around with r9 supertri v2, superfast 1.0 tp , superfast 2.0 tp but gamer for serious play ends up being

r510tp 9.5 grafalloy blue 65 x flex, can get penetrating flight and shape,

that head size , I use it to hit little kick drives out 210 yards like 1 iron,

390 cc still the business
