Had to stop playing due to bugs.

Recommended Posts

Title pretty much says it all. Went to my local course, played through 4 holes of breathing in gnats ( literally ) . If you stood still it was like bug rain. Flying into my eyes, sticking to my legs. Line up my putt and they go into your eyes, or they bite right when your hitting. Ended up calling the pro shop from the other side of the course asking if we could get a refund. Sad sad day.

Played at Pebble Creek in Becker tonight and I thought it was going to be way worse. Got lucky I guess.

Bugs are a hassle, I totally understand. Baltimore can be gnat and mosquito country, but here's what I recommend:

1. Wear long sleeves if you can
2. Always bring repellant with DEET, Off Deep Woods is by far the most effective.
3. SPRAY YOUR HAT. I mean coat it.

Don't feel too bad for us- played 18 yesterday- low 60's and heavy fog. Drove 25 minutes home to mid-80's and sunshine. Mid-80's again today. No bugs. Cool ocean air cooling things off tonight. Supposed to be "hot" again tomorrow- mid-80's.

Gnats aren't bad here in Louisiana or Texas. Mosquitos and "love" bugs are horrible!! In Clute, TX their annual festival is called the Mosquito Festival!

Played last Sunday at Black Bear Golf Course in Delhi, LA and the Mosquitos were so bad I swore they were going to carry our cart off!

I use to hate living in oregon but...
1. No bugs
2. Not over 95* in summer
3. Under 85* 10/12 months.
4. Hardly ever below 30*
5. It rains but its not awful pourings.

Oregon seems amazing now..

Yup, played 18 today and the only bugs were crane flies hugging the sanded greens. I had to shoo one away because it was in the line of my putt. Oh the agony. :D

On second thought, maybe I should have just putted over the darn thing - didn't realize they damaged the turf (the larvae)!

people in the eastern US have no idea what bugs are. I feel bad for all you peeps out west.

Apparently you've not had to deal with black-flies in Maine. I've actually thought I was wiping sweat from my brow only to find it was really rivulets of blood.

I have gone out in late Spring to play a few rounds of golf and had to throw out the socks I was wearing (and one pair of shorts) because the black flies drew so much blood the clothing was ruined. Pretty extreme those times, but some seasons are worse than others.

I haven't had a lot of time lately, so I decided to play a quick 9 at a muni par-3 just to practice my irons. Almost the entire course was covered in clouds of what looked like some kind of flying ants. As I walked, They would fly out of the grass. They were everywhere and it was disgusting. A few got under my shirt collar and started biting. I'm assuming this is a short-term thing but I'm not going back this week until I know for sure they're gone. I hate bugs.

At the New Jersey shore-green head flies, they leave welts, mosquitos are nasty too.

I was playing with a member at Seaview, which is across the bay from AC. You could tell he was a member because of the scars on his legs from those flies. Some still bother you through bug spray.

  • 2 weeks later...

I went birdie, birdie to start a round about 8 years ago. Was bit by a deer fly while waiting to put the flag in for the other player. My right hand swelled to twice its size and I got to walk back to the clubhouse where they gave me some antihistamines.

"Best" round of my life.

Hopefully a whole new setup coming soon!
