Nike, Ping and Callaway have my attention. I cannot wait for demo days. The only Tm on my hit list at this time is the Ghost S.

Covert driver, g25 irons and Versa are looking very good! Come on demo days.

It's rare that I'm excited to buy a club when they first come out. But I will be picking up this driver quickly. It will be reshafted within 12 hours of purchase.

The last time I wanted to go out and get a club was when Mizuno released the BC-7. 8802 style with a FIT face and 355g.

Stanley really moves the ball so 6 mph is significant. Can't wait to see Tiger and Rory's #'s with this thing. Nike is supposed to have another announcement on the 7th. I'm thinking Fuji TS 7.2x straight in it.

Did he say what he picked up 6 mphs of ball speed from? Over his old Titleist or? 6 mphs is a lot for a pro with a fitted driver, if that's accurate this thing must be beastly.

With the kk that doesn't fit my swing and on a cold windy wet day this was just behind my friend who is in a perfectly fit driver. I think with a bb7 I can make this a monster.

I haven´t hit the Covert.

But after reading all the reviews of the 2013 driver offerings, the Covert (and maybe the Cobra) is the way to go.

Other OEM´s don´t have the technology of the Covert and offer only modified 2012´drivers.

IMO the independent loft and face angle setting, compared with the CB and fitted with the right shaft is unbeatable.

There's a lot of merit in the idea that Nike takes major steps forward this year in being a leader in Golf Equipment. They stand ready to release their most anitcipated driver to date while their biggest competition is releasing a driver that has garnered the most negative reaction of any major release in recent history.
This will be the year of the red driver.

Agreed, the sole plate is still a gimmick on the R11, R11s, R1, etc. True manipulation of the clubface is key to actually opening and closing the face in my opinion.

The CoG placement of this one has me a lot more excited than R1. Whether it will win out is the question. I've had at least a dozen drivers challenge the Superdeep. Nothing has beaten it yet.

If this is as low spin as they claim, there may be a new Dog's Balls in the bag.
[/quote]

Stage you are up on this one arn't you. What is it that is getting you all hyped on the Covert? Seriously?

BTW... I heard from Greg that most of the tour guys are playing the non tour.

Richard,

I wrote a lot of this on page 10, but I expect it's lost at this point:

1) The rumor mill is that this driver is much, much lower spin than most. That's music to my ears. It's much easier, in my opinion, to increase launch and spin with shaft selection than it is to try and lower launch and kill spin. I could put an Aldila NVS in a Bridgestone J33 and people could still elevate and spin it. But take a high launch/high spin driver like R7 460 and see if you can use shafts to keep it down.

If this driver is as low spin as they are advertising, imagine it with a low launch/mid spin shaft like ProtoPYPE. That could be a disgustingly hot and long combo!

2) The sole configuration gives the average golfer something that you can't get with a low CoG sole that is 5 inches deep: a chance to take driver off the deck. So far, Bubba was the only guy that I've seen try it in Hawaii. But the driver looks like it has the sole width of a normal 3 wood. Get a fluffy lie and you have a chance to get home in 2 from anywhere.

3) If Nike is smart enough to have tips available like TM has, they can capture that market. Every OEM has dropped the ball on this except TM. There has been no easier way to go from R9 to R11 to R11s and keep your high dollar shaft. I want it for the ease of swapping shafts for experimentation. I'm expecting to start with my trusty Project X-8A4. But I also have a 75g RT Technologies Zeus ready for experimentation.

4) There is a limited market for 8° drivers, 13° fairway woods and 17° hybrids. The ability to set back to "normal human" lofts will make it easier to find a golfer that can use the driver if it doesn't work for me. My brother (who was lucky enough to inherit my R11 irons) doesn't need the same loft as I do. But the shafts will work for him if he can dial in a little more loft.

A lot of this can apply to other OEMs as well. But the talk of low spin and the sole design makes it much more exciting that any other OEM out there. If they made it easy for me to access the head through the port to apply hotmelt, so much the better.

If I love the driver and hate the red paint, Continental may end up making the top matte black. The red stripes on the sole would still look cool with the matte top.

Just a quick one on the pros playing the non tour- it's fair to day most pros swing it more efficiently than us amateurs. They don't always need the low spin designs to control spin as they already do so naturally. I'm really liking my covert tour so far.

Not sure if anyone knows the answer to this but in the R1 thread it was mentioned that there are 2-3 tour versions of the R1 head with different lofts (i.e. the retail version comes at 10* while there are 9*, 10*, etc. head for the tour). I know some people claim that this is because there is no way to adjust the face angle & loft independently so on tour they are offering the heads in different lofts (i.e. the single head with adjustable loft doesnt work as TM claims).

not sure if this is the same deal for the Covert and if anyone knows. Also, when are we going to get the "first peak" into the Cover - similar to the TM and Callaway, where they post all the details and Zak's interview. I love that stuff.

I'm very curious abotu this also. I thought the Covert did give the ability to independantly adjust where the R1 didn't?

The FlexLoft system is a simple pull, turn, and push/tighten mechanism that allows for an intuitive adjustment system. The patented Dual Axis adjustment allows golfers to choose their loft (between 8.5 and 12.5 degrees) and face angle independently of each other by decoupling loft from face angle. This creates 15 different options to suit their game and course conditions.

2013 Nike Covert makes the pace.
