Thanks to warm sunny weather here in the Philippines, I was able to test two Nike demo drivers on course.

VRS Covert with Japanese Bassara Shaft Stiff
-put it in 8.5 and it still flew higher than most 8.5's I am accustomed to
-Bassara is a soft shaft even at stiff but very stable - my ball did not curve much
-I actually prefer the look of this to the Tour driver because it has no Covert text in the top
-Switched the loft to the maximun 12.5 and put the setting to Open (or Fade, forgot how it was labelled), and it made a nice driver off the deck!

VRS Covert Tour with Kuro Kage regular
-this is a real tour driver made for the better player and not just for posers, my first three shots were OB right!
-when I hit my hard hooky swing, the ball did not hook but go straight or slight draw that was strong a piercing. Since my swingspeed is slower and I had to give a lot of effort to maximize the driver, I can imagine tour pros having a field day with it
-I was hitting it at 8.5 neutral. I am sure I could get more if it were in the draw setting
-agree with rva, shaft in regular flex is plenty stiff and stiffer than the Bassara in the non-tour
-As I got more warmed up, I was hitting strong and straight drives in the back 9
-this is easily the most "piercing" ballflight with a lot of carry I have ever experienced in a regular flex driver

Adjustable Sleeve
These adjustments are for real! Unlike the Taylormade with the ASP technology where the face angle changes only if you ground the club - this one really changes independently of loft. It is really simple, intuitive, and effective. This technology is a winner and frankly something I would prefer over the Taylormade for now

No Charge Shafts for the Covert

Nike Kuro Kage Red 60 or 70
Remember that the Kuro Kage also comes in the fairways. So you can request the FW version in your driver for a heavier shaft. You don't have to go to the Red.

The Kuro Kage Red in the red/black Covert Tour.....YEAH!

Kuro Kage with the Red is same as Kuro Kage Black. Red is custom paint bling for NIKE and the Covert Performance head.

I just demoed both the covert performance and tour models. They are the real deal. My best numbers were with the performance and the VTS Black. My numbers were constitantly better than with my RBZ Attas combo. Definitely going to be thinking about getting one soon!

Which model are you going with?

The performance head. Not sure about shaft though. Need to see the upcharge prices.

Who made the call on the red paint job? Why can't all clubs just be black?
Might be the same reason cars don't come in just black. Some people like a little color

Side note: if they didn't make Henley play this driver it's no way Tiger is going to play it if he doesn't want to. Just a fact.
I agree but on the other hand, Tiger (and Rory) are the face of Nike and if I was running Nike Golf, I'd want my top guns playing the new drivers since Tiger would get more TV coverage. I guess we'll find out next week when Tiger and Rory are in Dubai
So if/when Tiger puts it in play that will mean it's legit?
Please show me where I questioned if the driver is legit or not? I just switched from a VR tour to a Cleveland classic. Nike makes very good equipment. That was in reference to everyone who's been saying that they are "mandated" to play the new driver. If Henley isn't playing it then its no way they're going to make tiger play it IF he doesn't want to. That's all. Please read carefully in the future.

Hey guys sorry for the confusion.

The Kuro Kage (both) are the real deal. The red is actually called the black.

The other shafts are Nike made for. They are all from previous stock driver shafts. The k series was solid. I think a lot of people have slept on the vrs.

Like I said in an earlier post - there was a guy demoing one at PGA SUPERSTORE when I was there. He had a titleist a'hina stiff. The demo guy snuck in a regular and the guy was getting his best results. The shaft is stout! One reason why I ordered mine with a stock one and an upgrade so I have options.

Stopped in to my favorite big box this evening, and they unpackaged the new Nike fitting cart for me. First impressions: The Covert Performance is gonna sell like mad. The candy apple red is gorgeous and the swoosh is subtle and dare I say, elegant? Head shape is perfect. If you grew up on Titleist drivers, you'll feel right at home with this classic shape. It's D2 meets D3 in the looks department.

Spent about an hour with it and hit the Kuro Kage, Black Tie, VTS Black and Fuel. I got similar numbers with just about all the shafts. Black Tie and VTS were the best of the bunch when it came to dispersion and feel. The KK felt a little soft in the tip section. Would definitely need to go X in that shaft.

Here's the biggest reason I'm buying one without even blinking an eye. SOUND....the thing sounds amazing! Nowhere near as tingy and annoying as the R1 which I hit along side it. Just solid and very muted. Nike has a huge winner on it's hands. It's the real deal and as an added bonus the adjustability is seamless and doesn't look like an afterthought. Very high-tech and well put together. If you're in the market for a new driver I would put this one at the top of your list.

Before I forget, I also hit the Tour model. I really don't see many of these selling unless you need a realllly low spin head. The thing is tiny. Almost looks like a Titleist 975D or a modern day 3 wood.

The Covert may be the king of all drivers this season. Well done NIKE.

@Doc

I didn't know they had the VTS for the driver. I knew they had it for the hybrids. Did they tell you how much for the VTS?
Yup, it's part of the Nike fitting cart. I was quoted about $200 which I thought was high. Try Discount Dans....their prices were reallllly good:)

I am a very tall guy(6'7") with a smooth 110 mph swing. I have been using the UST V2 75x for years bc I have not gotten much better results in the dispersion and spin, even with most high end shafts(RIP, Tour AD, whiteboard, etc...) My spin with my Vr Tour hovers around 3200 on avg. I have a descending blow with the driver of 0.5-1.2 deg. on average. I am looking at the Tour head in order to get my numbers down. Those of you who have hit it on monitors, do you think I would benefit from the Tour head?

PS-What I was saying above, is that the spin and dispersion with all the other shafts have not been so drastic as to switch from my old faithful shaft. It's cheap and it works!
