It didn't happen overnight, but this year Dan has my swing simplified and has me swinging faster at it. So with that said, I was always a long driver of the ball with clubhead speed near 120, but tried to hit controlled irons and usually pulled 7 iron from 165. Now Dan has me hitting 7 iron from 190. I hit driver 290 in the air most of the time, depending on whether I hit a fade or draw. Dan made a swing for my driver where I feel like I don't even get to chest high and I swing as hard as I can and hold it off, and it always fades and is my go to shot if I am under pressure. That driver swing flies 270-ish. If I want to try to reach back for more Dan has me make a bigger turn and get more inside of it and I draw it and I can hit it 320.
So your definitely knocking it out there much farther than average with a more compact and obviously more efficient swing, which is good to hear. So if you don't mind, any tips or advice with taking on this drill, which can aid me in having success in using it and working up to a full swing with it.
To be honest, I would probably just screw you up if I offered too much of what I do. I would recommend just reading through the thread very carefully and video your swing and then video you doing the drill. Personally, Dan had told me via email how to do this drill before my first trip to JAX and before this thread was ever created. I thought I was doing it correctly, and I wasn't even close. I mean not even in the same zip code close. I had to have Dan show me how to do it correctly which literally took two swings and it fixed a ton my my issues. After that, it was a matter of getting comfortable with it, and then fixing some downswing issues I had. I still do the drill and monitor how far I am taking my arms weekly.
Ok no problem, I understand. I have read every page of the thread since discovering it the other day and I have Dan's original article along with the images he provided as well as the video he did, all on my phone so I can refer to them on the range. I can also record my swings so I will do that and just work things out from there and will probably post some videos here to get peoples thoughts/ advice on how I'm doing with the drill. Thanks for taking the time to post.

Before seeing this thread and reading the original post, I thought of this move as "keeping the right (trail) arm straight" throughout the swing. Yes, it breaks down a bit at the top of the backswing and lead arm breaks down at the end of the swing. But the FEELING is keeping my right arm straight (along with the left).. Love it. Creates a very powerful pivot. But adding that to a shallower plane and bending a bit more at the waist, the Holy Grail.

GI to Blades to SGI= Golf is now fun

I have been grooving this drill for the past week or so. I have a zepp sensor. The interesting thing is that I am now getting readings a little over 80mph for my steel shafted 8 iron, with only 230 degree of backswing (270 is parallel). Before this drill I was full swinging until my tendons hurt just to try to generate speed. Now most of my shortest backswings (still 77mph!) have basically perfect swing paths. I am still not able to generate more speed than my old swing max, and I am not trying super hard to yet, but this swing is much more compact and I keep waaay better balance with it. I have yet to hit a ball with this. (I don't have time or much money, Zepp was a gift. lol). But I will say this. This is the first time I have felt what it is like to be in sync and it feels AMAZING. Thank you Dan. This does remind me of Monty's no turn cast drill, but I think this is way better. It is better because it DOES incorporate the turn. I can sympathize with so many of you who want to make this a full swing (270 degrees). When I try to, I end up getting basically the same speed and less consistency. I must be losing "the sync." Thanks again Dan. This is my first WRX post. -Lord Keith

Do you really think the Zepp sensor helps??? Does it give instant feedback?

+2, but does anyone know how they determine to pin something? There is a Zach Heusser thread that has very few (total of 40 since 2005?) posts and they took down the 9 to 3 thread that had posts into the hundreds. Doesn't seem to make sense.

The 9 to 3 thread became unpinned shortly after Russc ceased posting. Some speculate that he was paying to have it pinned much like you would do in the BST.

I believe you have to sponsor to be pinned. The pinned Zach Heusser thread does indeed make no sense what so ever.

Think Zach is a Mod on here that may be the reason. Great guy

I believe you. The thread still being pinned is not logical though.

Dan, would you recommend this as another good drill to sync the arms and the body?

http://www.instagram...-by=ggswingtips
Depends on the player's tendencies. Basically he is speeding arms in transition and the speeding up pivot around impact. That drill would be awful for a guy like Sean O'hair who can drop the club too much and who can get too much separation between hips and shoulders. It'd be good for a player who spins out and wipes it. It's a drill to move someone from one extreme to the middle by practicing the opposite extreme. The drill I gave is exactly what you want to happen. So it works regardless of where on the spectrum you fall.

BTW the kids backswing pivot in the video is absolutely awful and why the get can't flatten the club. IMO its drill to force a position or look rather than fixing the root cause which is a bit of setup issues and the kids pivot in the backswing

So for a full length swing just allow the elbow to fold?
Just turn a bit more and swing a little bit longer. You will not have to consciously try to fold the elbow more. Set the club fully, arms slightly higher, shoulders more turned. Basically all you just have to think about is making it slightly longer.

Did the drill with 9i down to the LW. Hit a total of two buckets. Must say it was amazing hitting the center of the club face without putting the hossel behind the ball at address.
