The S55's are being released this fall- 100%, absolutely, positively. Sorry OP- Your source was not being truthful. Not trying to debate. If you don't believe it, no worries. The engineer you played with was simply being coy and playing the party line, hey, keep buying the S56's, we don't know when the S55's are coming out. Nothing wrong with that. All companies do it to avoid tanking sales on existing models.
How'd that work out?
:taunt: is it fair play to taunt a guy almost a year later? I'm hoping they come out around this year's British open
It may be a bit unfair, but is it not also unfair to be a pompous arse and claim to be all-knowing? :P

Not to drag out the thread any longer, but could these potentially be the S55's? Bubba had one of these on the most recent Golf Digest cover. This photo is from the WGC thread.

Those are S59's and I still can't believe he plays those.... but hey, I'm not wearing a green jacket.

As I remember doesnt he play the S59s because they launch lower than the S56s?

That photo of Bubba's bag reminds me. Probably get a first look
at an S55 (if there is one) on tour before we hear anything.

Just watch the S56 users.

Bubba plays the S59's because the MOI/sweet spot is the size of a pinhead and he can shape them all over the place.

They aren't easy to hit.

I agree with this. I was afraid to try the s58 back when I bought them because i had such a bad experience with trying to hit the s59 tours.....and then i read the reviews and I've had s58's since 2009... They must have recieved a lot of feedback about the 59's being hard to hit....because every iteration of the s line since then has been in a whole different class with regards to forgiveness. I assume the 55's...if they ever come out, will be much the same in this regard

Yeah - and they feel awful when mishit...which makes it even worse. For the record I didn't make this up - the folks at PING told me that when I was at the VIP outdoor center. They actually had a set built to Bubba's spec you could handle. Pink paintfill and all. I inquired as to why he moved on with woods and wedges, but irons stayed 59. They explained the workability of this club was second to none based on that lack of forgiveness.

How does the lack of forgiveness make it more workable?

Is he purposely hitting on the heel/toe of the club?

Or is it just that the iron head has less MOI, is easier to leave face open, flip it over, etc...?
The latter, likely. I can't speak intelligently on the matter. Not a physics guy. I was just repeating what I was told.

You could make an argument that Bubba might not have won the Masters with any other PING iron so....its good that he hasn't switched.

I know there are topics already started asking about, and discussing, an s55 iron being released this summer. Well i can tell you guys with 100% certainty that no new players iron is being released this summer by ping. I played yesterday with one of the engineers from ping and he said the s56 is selling too well still and guys like the performance so nothing is even in the makings to replace it. he said prolly a year before they make something new
Turns out the Ping guys are clever enough not to tell you, as you obviously are incapable of keeping up the traditions of the Cone of Silence. Wouldn't want to go on a golf trip to Vegas with you.

Orrrrr.....

They were clever enough to tell him what they want everyone tom know, knowing that it will get out.

kinda like a planned leaked photo or something. Sneaky sneaky

run of the mill driver with stock shaft
a couple of outdated hybrids
shovel-ier shovels
wedges from same shovel company
some putter with a dead insert and
a hideous grip

I played the S59 irons for 7 years, never had any problems with them being to unforgiving.
I had mine for 5 years, hands down the best irons I've owned, and I was a 6 handicap at the time and never had a problem with forgiveness, in fact I just talked my buddy an 8 handicap into buying a set of these, and he is now playing his best golf to date. I think they are amazing and the best ping irons made in my opinion.

Just watched the billy horshel WITB with Sara brown and he let it slide that they are coming out with the s55 irons this summer. So there it is, straight from billy! Unfortunately that's all he said

I'm sure Billy meant the summer is when the pros will start to get to test them. Maybe at the British like always. But they won't be for sale to the public until the fall, also as usual (order August, sell September)..

I would be very surprised if they will suit Bubba. If they do they will be dud sellers like the S59s were. Forgiving and shot shaping that Bubba does are mutually exclusive. The S59s are the only club ping has made in modern times that suit Bubba's game. But that doesn't stop the reps. from claiming every new club will be in Bubba's bag...

Heard from my rep yesterday that they are looking at possible retail release in July or so. Obviously it has not been finalized yet, so there may be some give or take there.

the S59s are probably the closest thing to a blade that Ping has ever made....

without that black insert i would almost classify them as "pure" muscleback blades..
