New PING S-series Iron / S55 / S-55(merged)

Recommended Posts

I know there are topics already started asking about, and discussing, an s55 iron being released this summer. Well i can tell you guys with 100% certainty that no new players iron is being released this summer by ping. I played yesterday with one of the engineers from ping and he said the s56 is selling too well still and guys like the performance so nothing is even in the makings to replace it. he said prolly a year before they make something new

I'll wait until Oct 1 to see if that's true or not. He's right that there won't be anything released this summer.

The S55's are being released this fall- 100%, absolutely, positively. Sorry OP- Your source was not being truthful. Not trying to debate. If you don't believe it, no worries. The engineer you played with was simply being coy and playing the party line, hey, keep buying the S56's, we don't know when the S55's are coming out. Nothing wrong with that. All companies do it to avoid tanking sales on existing models.

Not to bash the OP either, but I've asked questions numerous times over the years and Ping guys/reps always say something to the effect, "don't know of anything right now." I always took 'right now' as the operative words. Like right this minute. As a long time admitted Ping fan I always watch TV-thank goodness for stop action- to see whats in the bags. S55s, Hmmmmmmm, we'll see.

The S55's will come out, and they will be same clubs PING made the last 4 times, and all the PING faithfuls including me will buy them.

The problem with your pronouncement is when you say the S56s are selling well. Not true by any stretch of the imagination. By sales volume the worst model Ping has out there. Surprisingly even the very expensive Anser irons have sold better. This data comes from 5 of the biggest retailers in the U.S. People demo them but do not buy them.. They are tremendously popular on the tour and have a ton of wins since their introduction. That makes no difference in their sales. Their tour pros that like the S56s will continue to play them as Ping rarely forces their pros to play the latest.. Check out Bubba's irons...

This fall it is pretty well accepted that a new S55 iron and Anser (adjustable is the guess---no weights however) woods will be forthcoming. The only thing that is iffy is whether they will bring a new Anser iron set that matches the Anser Wedges...

Plus this early no ping employee is allowed to say anything specific about new product (why would you kill sales from now until September). Even after their sales meetings in late summer the reps often only have pictures to show their biggest customers.. They can say things like "what is coming in the fall will knock everyone's socks off", but anything more detailed than that will cause them to be seeking employment elsewhere..

Most people play the G line of irons and maybe some i series. Like Bob57 said Tour Pro like the S line of irons, but the average golfer has no skill level for the S line.
Bob57 wanted to see if you can send me an e-mail at "][email protected]. Had some questions for you.

I love the S55, or thought of it. It helped me pick up a set of s56's for dirt cheap. Come on S54's!

In the week of August 27, 2012 I wrote to Ping and they wrote back.

Thank you for your interest in PING. This email is being sent in response to the request you recently submitted on www.ping.com.

You asked: It's been some two years since the introduction of the S56. As someone who is looking into a new set of "player's irons" for the Fall, I'm interested to know if Ping will soon come out with a new version of this club, the S55 perhaps? Thank you, Ben Storey Seattle, WA PS I love my i15 fairways!

Our reply: At this time, we are currently offering the S56. If and when there is a new version, a press release will be sent out.

Hope this helps,

Sean P.

Ping's (and most OEM's) standard answer. Nothing new with their response.

Not sure how they could improve the s55 over the s56... I love my s56 irons.

I moved from MX 23's to Ping S56s. To suggest an average player can't play S56's is too much of a blanket statement. Looks small but play very forgiving. I have shot my best rounds of golf with the S56s. Now . . . . if I could only drive the ball consistently straight!
