Dan,

I've bought your videos, loaded them into my iPhone, and watching them until they become second nature in my mind. Awesome.

Can I ask, under what circumstances would you swing/rotate open the left hip with the shot? Is the left hip leading the pivot, or moving together with it, or passively reacting to the pivot of the upper body? Or is it moderated according to the power you want to generate?

Thanks.

Dan,

Just purchased your videos and they are great. A few questions:

1. The one lie that is left out for chipping is an uphill lie. What set-up and swing adjustments would you make from the good lie set-up and swing?

2. Do you use your full swing grip or your putting grip for chipping?

3. What weight distribution do you suggest for chipping?

4. For shots longer than the ones that you demonstrated, do you use the same procedure with a longer swing, or is your pitching swing (30-70 yards) a different animal?

Thank you very much.

The hips are reactionary. If arms are extended and in front of you in the follow through you will turn. You have no choice. Trying to do something that will already happen automatically will lead to poor mechanics.

Sincerely appreciate your prompt and clear reply.

What I like about your system and your answers is that it is so logical, clear and consistent.

When my brain can understand, it can trust and let the body execute the motion without hesitation, yipping, or stalling.

Thank you.

Dan,

How do you set up for and play a putt-chip that would only be in the air for a short distance and would have way more roll than air time? Let's say from the fringe or light rough 10 feet off the green? What club do you suggest for these?

Finally, same question for a bump- and-run from the fairway?

Thank you very much.

Dan,

Am getting better at this with more practice and rounds. But am still getting stuck occasionally on bunker with super fluffy soft sand. The sand just sucks the club head and the ball stays in the bunker. And I am probably doing things wrong in the heat of the moment.

Any pointers or any thing specific in the set up, etc that I should watch out for to ensure this is minimized? Thanks very much.

Looking at your videos again, and checking my setup in the mirror, I think I am setting up with the shaft too steep. I need to really bend at the knees to lower until my shaft is about 45 degrees to the ground. Would that help explain why I sometimes dig and get stuck in the sand?

What he says about a shallow AOA and using the bounce is correct. It is just like skipping a rock off water. If you try to skip the rock by throwing it a steep angle towards the water, it won't skip and will plunge into the water. Whereas, if you throw the rock at a shallower angle towards the water the rock will skip.

What a good analogy. I really need this to get the concept through my thick noggin' so that my hands don't try to come in last minute to 'muscle' the shot out to my detriment. Thank you, allikane.

Speed and face wide open. Softer the sand the more open face needs to be. Be aggressive

iteach, do you have any full speed swings of yours to view. I like how you use your arms, so many people trying to teach the hogan hips move, whereas my swing is the opposite, I feel my arms moving first in front of me and I hit it so much more solid and better. Saw your swing in the preview video and noticed the arms, link to a youtube swing or something?

Bought the videos last night and watched mainly the flop, bunker and basic chipping. Went out today and managed to squeeze in about 9 holes with a little bit of practice around the greens.
Flop shots worked really well and as Dan states in the video...it's not about improving your good shots, it's making the poor shots better.
Certainly unusual (for me) to have the ball so far ahead but it worked really well and I'm extremely encouraged after today.
I also used the flop technique from around 30/40 yards out when I had a greenside bunker to get over and it worked well...I dropped another couple of balls to try again and each time same result.
Bunker play was also encouraging although I will need to spend a bit more time on my practice.
I didn't spend too much time on chipping today so that will have to wait until my next round.
Looking forward to trying out the shots on my next medal round when it counts!!!
All in all I'm delighted with the purchase and hopefully I can shave a few strokes off my handicap with a little bit of help from Dan.

This thread could be life changing for me. I played 9 holes last night after just a quick skim of this thread, and all I did was move the ball forward in my stance on some shots around the green, and noticed such a difference.

I don't know what has happened over the past 10 years, but I have been a basket case around the greens compared to my youth. I think it all goes back to fear of hitting shots thin, then moving it farther back in my stance, getting a steeper and steeper AoA, and you can guess the rest, fat chunks, low thin blades across the green, terrible bunker play, my only "go to" short game shot is the hybrid chip, but you can't use that in that many circumstances.. My handicap has been from +1 to 4 or 5 the past 10 to 15 years, but at times if you watched my around the greens, you would think I couldn't break 100.... I can at times consistently hit 12-14 GIR when playing well, and still shoot 78-80 because I almost never get the ball up and down from around the green unless I am just off the edge.

I seems like such a mystery, I used to be considered really pretty good inside 30 yards around the green. But moving south where I get many of those tight Bermuda grass lies I think has messed with my head. And I haven't been any better from the rough either..... Time to hit the practice chipping and pitching area big time and see if I can really get this down....

A frustrating day on the practice green and on the course. Two questions:

1. I am embarrassed to ask this one, but is it possible find the sweet spot with this technique?
2. If the club still digs whilst trying to utilise this technique, what is the most likely mistake?
1. Are you hitting everything off of the toe? If so, try moving a bit away from the ball. The shaft should still point above your belly button, but more of the sole will be on the ground at address.
2. I have this problem sometimes, and it's likely that the arms stop or slow down. This brings the leading edge into play and makes the AOA steeper, causing the club to dig.

Both sound like you are taking outside and swinging across it. Feet close together, body totally passive, let arms swing TOWARDS THE TARGET. If you keep arms moving with left arm away from your body impossible to have it dig. Watch the basic chipping video. Don't watch and try to do every video. They were broken up for a reason. Start basic one at a time and go from there. Watch it and do exactly what it says. Almost all of this stuff is in the videos. You have to listen carefully to everything in the particular clip.

Hey Dan been working alot on what you taght me in Jacksonville last year. Things are clicking finally (Am a slow learner and Canadian winters!!!)
My hcp just hit 7.0 for first time in years and 9 of last 10 rounds are counting.
Golf is fun again and last few rounds have been flirting with even par going into last few holes!
So big shout out for a great instructor!

Also congrats on James Hahn he is playing well so far in the Canadian open which is in my home town. Tough track!

Short game is getting better but still have some trouble hitting shorter shots out of rough and bunkers as most of the greens on one of the courses I play are small crowned greens so often need to hit 10 yard shots from deep bunkers firm sand, or some Poanna rough where the ball settles down.
Are these types of shots dealt with in the video?
Also is it a single video download or a bunch of videos?
Are they of different quality?....
