Vans Golf shoes!

Really interesting... I saw it on Instagram and then saw it selling on Eastbay. Looks like a nice Range Shoes or casual practice shoe. Not sure how it'll hold up walking 18 holes or how your feet will feel. Then again, the Skateboarding and walking might be ok?

These look pretty similar to the older Nike spikeless shoes. There are a handful of different variations in looks and material.

My personal favorite is the white on whites

'Range' shoe, I believe intending a wide range of possibilities.

Looks so so.

Some 'turf' offerings from other brands do okay at the range but not enough grip for me to use on course.

That's exactly how I took it. Not sure if some folks are seeing "range" and are thinking driving range but I don' think that is at all what they meant. I think they just mean they have a wide range of uses. Can you golf in these shoes..sure. Are they meant as golf shoes..I don't think so.

I have them and have been using them for about a month. I have the all white ones btw. They are very nice, light, and comfortable. Tough to wear in the morning because the all mesh get wet quickly with the dew I wear them with no socks sometimes cause they're that comfortable perfect for the range or walking 9 holes in the afternoon.

I have a pair of the light grey ones and love them, wear them on and off the course all the time. Very comfortable and perfect for golf in completely dry conditions. Vans might consider a waterproof version and go all in on them being golf shoes.

^^^ Those North Face ones are water resistant.

"Vans Featuring deluxe weather-resistant coated leather and synthetic uppers, the Old Skool MTE DX also includes warm linings, a heat retention layer between sockliner and outsole keep feet warm and dry, UltraCush sockliners for long lasting comfort, and the newly-constructed vulcanized lug outsole that takes advantage of 20 years of snow boot history for maximum traction."

Got paired with a Vans employee at Torrey over the summer who wore these. Guy was similar in age around late 30's. Here's my conversation with him:

Me: Oh, sweet, that's cool Vans is expanding their line of footwear to golf. Are those at retail yet?

Him: Oh, these aren't golf shoes, they're skate shoes.

Me: So what are the nubs for?

Him: Oh, for skating.

Me: Why are you golfing in them?

Him: They're comfortable. Vans is never going into the golf business, we are a skateboard company. We'll never market to golfers.

Me: You're in the shoe business and don't realize the huge market of 80's kids who are now adults and golf and their teenage kids who already wear your shoes and are starting to get into golf would cop a pair Vans golf shoes for nostalgia? You're missing a huge market.

This is where I mentioned Kikkor shoes from Canada and that guy on Big Break taking the idea of a skate shoe turned golf shoe. I never bought them but they had some okay styles. I believe a couple tour guys repped 'em for a bit, including Kevin Chappell. His company failed but the concept was cool and why wouldn't a huge company like Vans add a couple golf options?

Him: I've never heard of Kikkor shoes or the Big Break, what's that? Our target market is skateboarders, surfers, snowboarders, etc. We're a lifestyle company.

Me: Yeah, but just make more of those in a bunch of colorways with a little longer nubs and you'd make a killing. People like nostalgia and "cooler" golf stuff. Haven't you seen the crazy Nike, Puma, Jordan high-top shoes with wild colorways and the jogger pants getting popular? Pat Perez rocking Jordans on Tour and the all the young fans Fowler brings to the game? Kids love Vans shoes. You know Kelly Slater and Eric Koston love golf too and Koston has a Nike golf shoe?

Him: No, golfers are traditionalists. We don't want to market to golfers.

For somebody who works at Vans corporate the guy was absolutely clueless. And by the end of his round his white on white shoes were filthy. I'd pick up some of classic "Core" style in darker colorways for the summer/dry rounds in a heartbeat. They could do hightops for kids or some of the classic designs too (checkered/ska).

Stuff like this:

i picked up a pair of these and have a couple rounds with them. i would never consider playing in any kind of wet conditions. they do grip super well for me, actually better than i thought they would. they arent very rigid/supportive so if you need support these arent the shoes for you. but i do like them but for a specific purpose, dry rounds.

Older thread, but on a dry course I've played in my Van's checkerboard slip ons. They don't have any problem with grip and are super comfortable for 18 holes of walking. The shoes posted above can only be better than a pair of slip ons.
