New Odyssey 7S putter: 2017 Canadian Open

7s red is sold out on Odyssey's website as of this morning. Very surprised that that color has sold out faster than the black, but it is sharp looking. Imagine black 7s will be gone soon too. I wonder how many, if any, will show up in stores if they are already gone online. Spider had the same supply/demand issues once retailed.

I don't think this is a limited release. They are probably back ordered now but not sold out.

I noticed something while browsing. All of the o works black have the 4 dots on the bottom of them. All the red have 1 dash. So im not sure if the dots even mean anything other than a design. Kind of confusing either way.

The slant neck must change it. The only thing that kept me from trying the TM Spider (DJ or J Day) was that it wasn't face balanced.

They came out with face balanced ones with double bend shafts last year and a platinum version this year. They are out there.

Why is the toe hang different between the two putters? What is the difference other than obvious cosmetic changes?

What? Aren't they face balanced?

 

I would think so but Odyssey uses the dashes (or dots) on the sole of the putter to determine toe hang. In this case, the black has 4 dots which tells me that it has max toe hang and the red has 3 dashes which is moderate toe hang.

Putter gets their toe hang the majority of the time from neck style and not the head shape. Most mallets are face balanced because they have double bend shafts. Most blades have toe hang because they have plumbers neck or even advanced toe hang on slant/flow necks. Putting a slant neck on a mallet allows for some toe hang for people that want the forgiveness of a mallet but typically play blades because they fit their strokes better. Best of both World. So in other words they changed the neck not the head.

Anyone know how the physical head size of this putter compares to the RSX 7? I see they are both 350g but thought I read somewhere that the RSX version had a smaller profile head compared to some other "7" models.

I'm planning on a head to head later today with the black 7S and my O-works #9. I have a very strong arc so I'm hoping that slant neck does the job.
