Sergio Garcia WITB: 2018 Honda Classic

It would seem he has a 6* gap between the MB9 and MD4\48, seems a bit odd, but I guess he goes 48-54 also.

I suppose it is not that big of a deal for someone that talented, surely has his gapping right.

Someone at Callaway obviously has the right idea, and that idea was inspired by the man, to whom the Apex name really belongs - Ben Hogan.

Nice to see, even though 3-4 irons could have been the same MB design - but then again, I am a purist, who never liked Callaways very much -

they are generally too similar to forestry tools :golfer:

The lofts on the rest of his irons might be tweaked as well. In my set, I have the '16 Pro in 3-4-5 at standard loft but the 6-P MBs are all bent 1* weak so I have a 3* gap between the 5 and 6. So I have a 5* gap between 9 and PW, and a 6* gap from PW to SW. Adding loft also adds bounce, which might suit Sergio well since his AoA can be a bit steeply down at times.

Wow, just think of what an easy guy that Sergio has been to work with, for his sponsors.

With Titleist, he played 14 Titleist clubs and generally used all their latest models (which was the usual 2-year cycle for the most part in those days).

With TaylorMade, and even with their rapid-fire product cycle, Sergio used 14 TM clubs (with a few odd putters thrown in) and always featured the newest products.

That's not easy to do.

And now he's playing all 14 clubs once again for his new sponsor. For all of the ups and downs of Sergio personally, he seems like a dream subject for an endorsement contract.

I agree wholeheartedly with this.

What made an impression on me was the fact that superstroke putter grips and golf grips are renowned worldwide. They were a small Michigan business that took off with a good product.

Is that his own putter grip 1.0 SGP ?

I believe it's the same grip as the tour only Ultra Slim 1.0P, but in a yellow/blue colorway for Sergio.

Does anyone have any idea what the 16 20 stamped on the hosel of his Apex Pro 3 and 4 iron mean ?

Pretty sure that refers to the 20V groove, same as what the MBs have. I do not believe the original Apex Pro had them.

“Precision grooves are built in to promote the high level of control and consistent spin that muscleback players expect out of any playing conditions. The 20V grooves also stand out for reducing fliers from the rough to deliver even more control.”

Sergio has to be one of the most talented players on the planet. Not just for his immense skill for just playing golf in general but also for his ability to have almost NO lag time whenever he switches gear.

Looking for another big year from him!

Was thinking exactly the same thing. I feel like you see guys struggle (relatively) more often than not when changing manufacturers.

Love the putter.

Interesting he's got 80TX in all woods.

A lot of the guys are going lighter on the fairway woods these days. Sergio, Tiger Rory, etc all playing 80 grams when all used to use 90-100+. I do find it interesting that he's playing Kuro Kàge Dual Core XT in the driver and standard old model XT in the fairway woods.
