Is anyone else sick of "limited" "small batch" BS?

I've become increasingly frustrated with the growing trend of everything being "limited edition, hand crafted, artisanal, small batch, proto, etc." bs. While I understand that Nike can sell more in the long run by keeping folks hungry for the next Jordan Golf release, or Tyson Lamb can keep charging $125 for divot tools (in addition to actually being a small shop, which impacts production) - my real beef is with the way these companies handle things. Rather than doing something equitable like a lottery system which would allow people who actually want to use their products a better chance to grab one (which Adidas has actually moved to for several releases) - they make everything available at some specific time allowing bots to flood the site, and creating a sad, secondary market of people buying to flip for profit.

While I've stopped buying most of this stuff due to the general frustration, the trend really bugs me, and I suppose I'm just curious if anyone else is as sick of it as I am.

Joke thread, right?

If you're worried about the unfairness of not being able to get your hands on this stuff then you're obvsiously not "sick of it". Quite the opposite. It's people like you who are the reason company's released products specifically to extract money from...wait for it...people exactly like you.

My kid has made some good money buying limited release clothing items and flipping for a profit. Personally, that's the only way I'd engage in buying such things. It there is that much hype surrounding something I'm heading the other direction for person consumption.

A friend of mine got "chosen" for one of those Nike special putters that everyone was in an uproar about five years or so ago. He initially said he was going to take it and play it because it was exactly the putter he'd been looking for. Then he waffled for a few days over whether to even unseal it from the original packaging. In the end, he sold it on while the frenzy was still raging for nearly twice what it had cost him. A week later I played golf with him and he was like, "Man did I dodge a bullet. I was thiiiiiis close to taking that thing out on the course and ruining the resale value".

I guess you missed the part about me refusing to buy the stuff due to my general distaste for the process. Reading comprehension is a sophisticated taste. It's not for everyone.

Well sure - I like Jordans, some of the Lamb stuff, some of the SWAG stuff, Yeezy's, etc. I never said "this is all trash - people are so dumb" - that's different than noting the price of a divot tool or coin.

That said, my question is if anyone else feels the same way that I do, and dislikes the process enough to write off the brands. It's if anyone else is disgusted with the secondary market that lives to offer zero value, and simply drive up the cost of goods (no offense to the guys son who is making some early life scratch).

Yes - I collected Jordans for years in the early 2000s, but stopped as bots became more prevalent and the secondary market made it too difficult to deal with.

I once waited three hours in a liquor store for a limited release... this was before I had a smart phone... at least that scarcity exists for a reason!

We are in weird times... I think so much stuff has moved to mass production that finding a rare object, even if the rarity is forced, makes people covet it more... couple that with anonymous resellers and profit driven corporations and here we are.

No I am not frustrated by any of this. I don't care who buys it or whether they use it or sell it on. I don't care if anyone makes a profit on it.

I have however jumped on a few GolfWRX's trends before which I regretted. The Adams driver one springs to mind. 9016D if I remember correctly, a thread about 300 pages long and it had to be a Harrison Sag shaft, it took me forever to get the whole thing together and I only kept it a week, couldn't hit for ******.

Unless these releases are for water and food when there are shortages of those things....you don't need any of this stuff.

Just get another putter that isn't a limited release. There are several available.

If you need a 1/100, just develop a bot i guess.

Have to be quick on releases.. Apple Pay for the win

Small releases make collectors want to buy and the second market value go up.
