Need Feedback from Nike Air Max 1G Owners

Recommended Posts

For all those who have a pair of the Air Max 1G, I was curious on their level of water defense. The details say they are "water-repellent" and not "waterproof" like other models. I'm thinking the leather material might be better than the material in my TW15s. I played at 6am this morning and my feet were soaked by the third hole from the standard morning dew and sprinklers.

They’re ok. If you’re walking on wet ground then you won’t have any issues, but I’ve found that the problem comes when you walk through long grass (ie longer than shin high) as the water goes through the laces/tongue part of the shoe.

That said, even in really wet conditions, the grip remains brilliant.

Thanks for the confirmation. I’ve had multiple pairs of Air Max 1’s over the years and remains one of my favorite shoes and this was the only possible issue that was holding me back from the purchase so I’m happy to know it’s a non-issue.

I also wonder if my TW15s lost its water repellent feature over the years because I don’t remember the water ever getting that bad, especially not after three holes.

Have played ~10 rounds in them. Zero waterproofing issues. 1-2 times my foot slipped in deep rough or bunker. Amazing traction the other ~800 shots

They are great; I play pretty much exclusively in the morning and in one tournament had to play after a thunderstorm/weather delay (monsoon that popped up after 12 holes) with minor course flooding and i can only think of 1 foot slip. No waterproof issues for me. I find them very comfortable

They are also very easy to clean with a magic eraser

Does the Magic Eraser work on the laces too? I clean mine after each time I wear them but haven't thought to try the Magic Eraser on the laces.

Never used. Is there a certain magic eraser or size or are they all the same?

Mr Clean Magic Eraser is the best I’ve used. Just get the basic model. The Walmart version is almost just as good.

I've definitely had an issue with the toebox getting dirty after rounds but I just wipe with baby wipes real quick and it's gone.

Just get the magic eraser wet, wring it out, and wipe down the whole shoe

I just get the eraser wet and off I go. Super easy. For my shoelaces I put them in the washing machine, but never the dryer.

Toothbrush and dishwashing soap is old stuff, don't bother.

The spray repellant doesn't work / makes your shoes hard as a rock.

I get MrClean 8 pack from Amazon. Check slickdeals for a deal. Usually can score the good erasers with the scrubber in the middle (4 pack) for $3 bucks when it comes up. But I usually go for the regular 8 pack of Mr Clean.

Ive tried the Walmart / Target brand and hate them. They dont have enough "clean" in them and require a lot more scrubbing, thus never last more than 1 pair.

As for golf, when I am done playing I wipe down my pair with my wet towel that I use to clean my clubs. Rinse the towel off after the round, but before you clean the shoes. You won't get all the dirt off, but it'll get the hard stuff off since its fresh. Get home and a simple wipe down with Mr Clean = good as new.

It would, but its a pain in the ......

I find it easier to simply take the laces off and throw them in the washer with my dirty clothes.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread. I'm wondering if anyone else has had issues with white Air Max's staining yellow? I had my pair a few months and my right shoe stained for some inexplicable reason, left shoe still perfect. I've tried multiple bouts of baking soda and all sorts to try and get it out but to no avail. Haven't seen any other issues online though? I love the shoes, just wish i could try get the right shoe back to life!

Hi there, apologies for another post resurrection. My White Nike Air Max also have stained yellow on both toe boxes. I’ve tried everything to fry them white out and nothing has worked. It seems they’ve been stained permanently. Did you manage to get yours clean?
