FootJoy Tour X - Best Shoe of 2020 - - for me....

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen much about this shoe other than the original thread to introduce it, so I thought I should share my experience.

I always loved FJ shoes but thought the new offerings continued to miss the mark for me. They were too narrow, too ugly, horribly fake/synthetic leather, or (no offense) belongs on a great-grandpa's foot. However, I did always like the DryJoy, and Icon but just wanted something more sporty, enter the Tour X. The fit is absolutely incredible! The tapered ankle locks you in and provides support for even the most violent of swings, yet they are incredibly easy to walk right out of box! I have 6 rounds on them now, and they are equally comfortable and stable since day 1. I bought them in the wide version and it is perfect, unlike the DJoys that were huge in the wide version. The only downside I found thus far are in the spikes. I wish they were not the soft kind, and instead the harder version. But, this is just personal preference. They are absolutely waterproof, as tested in a huge puddle I did not see getting out of the cart. The cushioning is excellent and molds extremely well with wear. Finally, the leather is extremely nice! Nothing close to the S version it replaced.

I would recommend everyone give this shoe a try and see if its for you. I was blown away!

Side note, my local PGATSS has an shoe department employee who was an Executive at Haggar for their custom and made-for division. He clearly knows his leathers, materials, and craftmanship. He agreed FJ absolutely knocked this shoe out of the park and sourced the leather from the best factory. A close second for me was the Cuater. I opted against them only because I felt they wouldn't hold up as well as the Tour X, but my God they were comfortable. And, I didn't need those in a wide. They run on the wider side. We also were discussing sport shoes in general. I played sports at an elite level, and through that process I learned your shoes are your most important piece of equipment. I truly feel golf is no different. I also learned that the best performing shoe for you is the one that fits your foot best! All shoes have a different footbed shape, and if you find the footbed that works best for you, then buy that shoe regardless of price! You might be surprised your best performing shoe is an $80 pair. On the other hand, you might be like me and it will be $200. So next time you are shopping for your optimal golf shoe, do yourself a favor and trace your foot on a piece of paper. That shape you created should be the shape of the footbed you look for. Trust me and really trace it. I promise you think your foot is shaped different from what it is.

Thanks for the note. I have been trying to find a FJ replacement for the Synr-G for years. Wearing Asics and UA now but still go back to FJ. They were great. I will be trying a pair of these out.

I tried these on at GG and they are the most comfortable shoe I can ever remember putting on my feet! I will be getting 2 pairs of these when my tax refund comes back. I also think they are great looking shoes. I know some have said they are ugly but that is not my opinion. Anyway my feet will be comfortable!

Thanks for your review. I have been surprised there wasn't more Tour X talk so far.

I have not seen them in person yet, but I have been impressed by what I see online.

I tried the new FJ versions like Tour S + DNA, but didn't like them, too much like Adidas, which I also don't like.

I currently have the older FJ Reel Fit + the Fury.

I went for the Tour X with BOA, I was a little surprised that I needed such a smaller size, so was happy I actually went and tried them on.

Not used them for a round yet, but just wearing them in the shop you could tell they were very very comfy shoes!

Probably won't bring them out until the weather gets better over here in the UK, but a top purchase for anyone who is looking!

I normally need a Wide, and when I do I usually go down 1/2 size. This is the exact thing I needed in this shoe, wide width and 1/2 size smaller. I don't think this is narrow by design, but normal width.

I hated the Tour S material, but this leather is incredible! As it wears, it gets even better.

Side note, the ankle rim is the best I have experienced in a golf shoe ever! It locks you in, but in an extremely comfortable way!

My understanding is they are just the newer version of the Tour S - new materials, etc, but in their lineup, it’s the “same” shoe. That said, I went a full size down in Tour S. I’m usually a 13, but I got it and it was like a clown shoe on me. I’m in the unfortunate predicament that most shoe companies don’t do 12.5, so I went down to 12. It’s not perfect, but certainly not squeezing into it. I walked several rounds with it and no issues. However just from a “feel” perspective, a 12.5 would have been best I’d imagine, or maybe trying a 12W.

I believe the X is made on the same last, so I’d say if you are a Nike or Adidas guy, try a half size down in same width or a full size down in a wider version.

I had to go down a full size to make them fit right, tried my normal UK size 10 and they were ginormous, so went with size 9

I had a pair of the Tour S BOA and they lasted maybe 7 rounds before the BOA system failed. The bottom eyelets near the base of your toes both ripped out of both shoes. I've sent them back to Footjoy for evaluation and hopefully a replacement with a pair of Tour X shoes. They were comfortable and supportive, but clearly a flawed design with the BOA.

That said, I freaking LOVE the BOA feature... I think I'm going to just buy a pair of the SL Boas to have as a 2nd pair.

Just got my placement pair of shoes in from FootJoy and they indeed sent me the Tour X! HoooRay! The bottom eyelets were radically redesigned from the Tour S (much beefier in their attachment to the leather upper). I tried them on and they fit perfect. Nice job FJ!

In a "thank you moment" to FJ, I went to GG and bought a pair of their Superlite XP's (been wanting a pair of spikeless shoes that were light). Holy cow those things are like slippers! I can't wait to try them out on the course.

I didn't. I think they knew of the defect in the design of the Tour-S BOA and decided to just give me the updated version. It was either that, or they didn't have my size left in old stock of the Tour-S.

I have loved FJ for the longest time, I own over 25 pairs of FJ alone, I've had knee surgeries and back issues due to an accident in Afghanistan while on active duty (served 26 years), I tried Adidas Tour versions with the Ultra Boost, great when new, once they broke in the were too soft "for me", I did loved them though, my go to shoe is the Pro/SL, Tour X, DNA and DryJoys Tour shoes for the stability and comfort while walking, love FJ!!!!

I am a little concerned about this size issue. I wear 10.5 D in Footboy shoes but when I tried the Tour X 10.5 if felt a little tight in the toes with normal socks. I am now ordering the 11. But it sounds like everyone else is sizing down rather than up. Is there a consistency issue here? Maybe I should try the other pair of 10.5.

I have 2 pairs of these; White/Grey/Red and the Black version. Best shoe I've worn. Great comfort. I don't absolutely love the style, but they are the best "sporty" looking FJs they have made in some time. Absolutely love the performance and comfort. FJ really made a great shoe with these.

I think so. To a point it depends on your feet and how they are trained. I used to walk 36 in DryJoys years ago (when I walked exclusively), and these are far more comfortable. Both pairs I own I played 36 in them right out of the box and zero issues with either pair.
