Cleveland RTX 4 Long Term Reviews ??

So I've done a bit more testing. Had another round and wedges were great again. Put quite a few close. Really like the simplicity of the setup. LOVE the 52 mid. The one issue is I think you need a bit of a unicorn in the 58 slot to do this and I don't believe the mid grind is that for me. Testing on chips in the park compared to my 54 S grind and 60 M grind I find the 58 Mid tends to dig a bit. I get the ball first but then it will really get stuck. I thought it was a similar grind to the S but I found the S to be MUCH more forgiving when it's soft. My 54 S is bent to 55 and I can hit low checkers, high flops, bunkers - everything. The 58 Mid also seems to not love soft sand. I'm quite a good bunker player and I had some good results but also very average. The M and S are both much better for me. I do really love the spin I'm getting from these though and I can tell they are launching much lower than mine. They are fresh grooves though and that could be it. I've got a 58 S grind on route which I'll test with my F grind and see if that is the magic combo. These RTX are wicked though and I'd love to stick with them. I'm wondering if a 56 Low bent to 58 might work better?

I need a bit of sole width for bunkers, trailing edge relief, and something that won't dig in too much on full shots (actually like the 58 mid for this). Thoughts?

On my second set with them.. Got the stock s400 the first go around and didn’t care too much for the shaft. Went with KBS 610 second go around and made a world of difference for me.. 52/56/60. 56/60 are full grind

I have the 48, 52, 56 and 60 in black.

Love everything about the clubs except the finish.

I hit most of my bunker shots with the 60, and the sole and most of the face are now completely silver.

Got a raw set 50,56,60. Mid, mid, low. Really like them alot. The shape is perfect and the raw finish is just awsome. Was playing tour satin sm7s and didnt get alot great with them. Not sure what it was but just didnt like them. Came from rtx3s before that.

I've now had enough time with these in the bag this year to make some comments. I have a 50* RTX4 in the raw finish. I like the appearance, I clean the club after every shot, so no rusting yet on the finish.

1) Distance issues I was concerned about earlier seems to have gone away, or minimized. May have been spring rust, cold weather, or just not taking good swings. The 50* wedge seems to be a touch longer than the 52* Nike wedge it replaced. The intent was to reduce the distance gap between my 46* CF16 Pro PW and the SW, hence the 2* stronger loft.

2) Spin with these, for some reason, is non-existent. I cannot get the ball to check up, no matter what I try. I was out on Monday and hit shots with the 50* and my 10+ year old 56* Nike SW and the Nike, every time, crushed the RTX for spin. I tried different balls, different shots, etc. Not sure what the deal is, but the Nike 52* may come back out and the RTX will go away. I rely on spin for these shots, and the RTX shots always roll out on me. While the beat up Nike (both 52* and 56*) spun the ball noticeably more.

3) They both claim to be 10* bounce, but the RTX4 seems to dig more so than the Nike. I am still adjusting to this.

4) The RTX4 does look good behind the ball, the raw finish is nice. Happy i went with that.

It is a neutral rating at this point. Were money on the line and both clubs an option, the Nike would get the call today. I am not playing for money, so I am committing to the RTX4 for the time being.

Turf interaction sabotaging spin. If it’s longer than your 52 bend the 50 up to 51 or 52 and bring up and bounce and improved the turf interaction.

I’ve bent my SW and LW 2* weaker and they play like a charm. I actually like the look of less offset in this case.

The v-soles play lower then the stated bounce albeit for more aggressive shots.

I have no spin issues.

If you need more bounce, you’ll have to look else where. RTX-4 seem to be low bounce for the first time of all releases.

How does turf interaction sabotage spin? I would assume, on a clean impact your are striking the ball first, or at least at the same time as the ground. I've thought about bending the club a degree or two, though my mind says a 1* difference is no going to make much of a change, and 2* puts me back to where i was with the old wedge gap...thus negating the intended effect of the new club. :)

Interesting that you say they play less bounce than measured, that seems to match my experience thus far. I have adjusted by using my RTX less for around the green shots and used the Nike wedge more.

I'll keep experimenting. :)

If it digs more are you going at the ball like you would the Nike? I can guarantee you are unconsciously going at the RTX 4 less where it matters because of the extra digging. More bounce will dig less and you will get better performance than the Nike.

I personally do prefer the low bounce route loving in Florida with little to no rough around our greens.

I’ve played Florida courses and my RTX4 mid have performed very well.

You made a good point on bounce vs spin, I find more bounce produces less spin and less bounce translates to more spin.

This depends on the users technique and ground conditions because otherwise, you could easily chubb or skull it.

What I like about the LW and SW, it matches my swing and I just point and shoot. No altering of my swing needed.

I’m assuming the “more bounce/less bounce” spin comment is particular to your swing, because generally that’s not the case.

There are YouTube videos in this but regardless, my personal experience is that I’ve used 6* of bounce most life.

The last handful of years I’ve switch to 8-14 degrees of bounce, depending my two wedge set; I’ll pick and choose depending on the firmness if the ground. For the most part, 10* works well all around for me.

My point is, let the club do the work. A wedge fitting will do wonders assuming you don’t have technique flaws.

If I can sneak away for a few holes but not a whole round I’ll play closest to the hole. Start at 150 with 3 balls, you have to get all 3 on the green. If you don’t you have to start the next hole also at 150 till you can get all 3 on the green. Once you do move to 140 and so on and on.

You can also go the other way 30 yards to 150. I just know my game works better when I focus on full before touch.

My only complaint would be that for my swing the stock S400’s launch way too high, but they are amazing around the greens and out of the sand.

Anyone mess with 58 or 60 in the Full sole? I generally have used “C” type grinds in the L wedge and have issues with digging the leading edge. Wonder if the full would help but not be too much bounce.

Tempted to custom order a set, but wonder how these will stack up against the Zipcore and will probably wait. But that custom option looks sweet!

I am declaring my RTX4 experiment over and a failure.

I committed to the 50* wedge this season and I find it, overall, to be a terrible club for my game.

1) It feels/sounds equally harsh on well struck shots and slight mishits, providing no beneficial feedback.

2) It digs way more than any other off the shelf 50.10 wedge has a right to do and far more than any wedge I've ever carried.

3) It lacks spin compared to my old Nike VR forged that will be coming back into my bag for my next round.

The only thing it had going for it was passable looks in the raw finish.

First time I have gamed anything other than Vokey in years and all I can say is that they are amazing. Feel, spin, flight, turf interaction. I have 50, 56, 62 in raw. Great wedges

What is the durability like?  I am looking at replacing a couple of my Vokey wedges including replacing my standard Cleveland CG14 pitching wedge For a RTX 4  46 degree Raw.  I have read a few articles that the satin and black are less durable how do you find the raw?  Thanks
