It's a prototype version of the Kuro Kage Silver TiNi. I guess he tested it out before it went to retail, of what the 2.0 tour heads offer.

Rory McIlroy went wire-to-wire to win The Open Championship by two shots for his third major title. The 25-year-old made two notable equipment changes with the addition of two long irons to handle the tight driving conditions at Royal Liverpool.

 

McIlroy replaced his Nike VR_S Covert 5-wood with the company's MM Proto 2-iron at the Abderdeen Asset Management Scottish Open and kept the iron in the bag following a 72-hole test run.

 

Nike has yet to release formal details but did confirm the prototype 2-iron was a collaborative design between McIlroy, Tiger Woods and engineers at The Oven.

Sticking with a three-wedge set that was similar to what he used at the U.S. Open, McIlroy swapped his 56-degree Nike VR Forged wedge for a VR Pro Blade 3-iron that could be used off the tee or from the fairway.

 

Here's a look at the rest of the clubs in McIlroy's bag.

 

Driver: Nike VRS Covert 2.0 Tour (Mitsubishi Rayon Kuro Kage Silver TiNi 70TX shaft), 8.5 degrees

 

3-wood: Nike VR_S Covert Prototype (Fujikura Rombax Pro 95 X shaft), 15 degrees

 

Irons: Nike MMProto (2-iron; Royal Precision Project X 7.0 shaft), Nike VR Pro Blade (3-9; Royal Precision Project X 7.0 shafts)

 

Wedges: Nike VR Forged (47, 53 and 59 degrees; Royal Precision Project X 7.0 shafts)

 

Putter: Nike Method 006 Prototype

 

Ball: Nike RZN Black

Checked some old titleist specs and 6 iron #'s are 30* loft 62.5* lie 37.5" length. ......could have changed since switching to Nike but these are less than 2 yrs old.....oh px 7.0

[/quote]Those seem rather upright for someone of his height and ability, so much for the Hogan crowd saying you need to have your clubs 5 degrees flat to be a good ball striker.

Rory has said that his lie angle is 1* upright because his hands tend to get high at impact.
