They don't pay him too. Tiger is paid to have 13 nike clubs in the bag. Luke has to have irons and head covers, that's it. TM probably sends a good chunk of change his way for playing their driver.

Fact. It's actually a sweet deal for all parties. Mizuno gets the exposure. TM gets the driver in play. Luke gets to play EXACTLY what he wants, and gets paid for it.

He used an Anser style putter for a while, I believe it was a Bettinardi/Mizuno. He made the switch to the #7 sometime prior to his rise to #1.

I noticed the same thing earlier this season.

The whole reason I got a #7 is because of LD. And now, I just realized 1) I hate face balanced putter; 2) LD isn't playing the retail one.

Luke plays his PW to the old MP-62 specs.... 47degree PW.

Im not talking about the money. Im getting at the fact that he is their staple player and he doesnt use their woods. If he thought they were better than Taylor Made Im sure he could get Mizuno to pony up and pay him more $$$ to use them.

It goes back to the hyper sensitive Mizuno guys on here who jump all over anyone who makes fun of Mizuno woods. Yeah I get it, they make good stuff...except you can hardly find it in any stores and their #1 staff player/poster child doesnt think enough of them to use them.

I personally would love if they could find a way to make some relevant woods. I hold mizuno's quality in the highest regard but I dont even know what their current woods are called or look like...

Agreed. Love Mizuno's classic look, especially on Donald's MP 64s, but difficult to find the right specs in lefty clubs.

It's actually a pretty simple reason; one that has been discussed here before.

It has nothing to do with the woods being inferior. It is because Mizuno's line is fade biased. They set up rather open, even in a "draw" state, and tend to play left-to-right.

Luke Donald does not want a driver or fairway wood to set up fade biased. He wants to draw the ball right-to-left and Mizuno isn't really willing to build him a one-off clubhead to give him the draw bias he wants.

They've stated this numerous times in print and video media. No big secret.

If a players wants an open face with a fade bias built in to the woods, then Mizuno offerings from the MP-001 to present are pretty sweet. Especially the MX-700, MP-600/630, and the JPX-800.

I think S300 in his irons (tour only?), but he was fitted with x100 with the Mizuno optimizer video fitting.
