Here's my stash of new balls. Boxes are full dozens and single sleeves on the left. A bit blurry, but those are Cally Tour i(z) & i(s) and TP Reds (Tournament Editions), Silver Srixons are XVs, Gold Srixons are Yellow Z-Stars.

Also have about 2/3 of a den caddy filled up with similar types of balls that I've retired...

The great advantage of playing courses with little or no water and being a straight(ish) hitter means a fairly low inventory....

9 ProV1s with pink script.
6 B330s 2011 model.
3 Titleist Velocity.
3 Z-Stars.
1 Mizuno MP-S (a vastly underrated ball btw).
2 Nike 20X1s free to a good home..

SR2s and new TMs will be tried out once I have used up the ProVs....

Here's my current stash. Three balls each of yellow DT Solo X-Outs, yellow NXT Tour S X-Outs and 2013 ProV1. And a total of ten dozen Lethal PRACTICE balls...four dozen of them sitting on top of an unopened "case" of six dozen more.

The loose X-Outs and ProV1's will probably go with me for my two rounds at the beach in a couple weeks time. The course there has water left and OB right (or vice versa) on just about every hole. When the breeze is up I never manage to play there without losing a sleeve or more of balls. Two rounds there ought to get rid of all the stragglers...

A year or so ago I started buying ProV1's a sleeve at a time from the pro shop. The 2013 version is durable and I was in a period where I hardly ever lost a golf ball. It was cool not to worry about having a stash at home.

Then I went through a phase where it seemed like every round I'd lose a couple of balls. The low point came one day when in a stretch from the 3rd-5th holes in a round I lost four of those $4.50 ProV1's even though only one of them were hit in the woods. Two of them landed right in plain view in the rough but I never found them. And one ball, with god as my witness, landed and stopped rolling still in the fairway but when I got there no ProV1 to be found.

So I went back to buying discontinued balls cheap in bulk and stashing them. Slings and arrows of outrageous fortune costing me strokes on the scorecard is one thing. Losing a $13.95 sleeve of balls in 10 minutes flat, quite another!

Anyone buying golf balls by the case is a Manly Man.

Biggest one time consumer purchase that I ever read, way back in First Edition TGC DB, poster bought a dozen gross of a three layer ARNOLD PALMER ball that he said was the design basis for first Callaway urethane cover balls. I guess once Cally bought the rights, the market for the subject Palmer ball all went liquidation and he simply purchased everything in a single warehouse sale he found. A gross is 12*12. He bought 12*12*12 of one ball in one purchase. He swore it was best ball he ever played and had no plans to change. Also gave boxes to friends as their birthday and Christmas gifts.

I agree that testing new golf balls is great fun and being on the hunt for THE perfect ball (means the ball that suits best ones game) might be never ending.

But: having so many different ball in stock, do you use them? I mean playing such different balls is not really helpful as there's no consistency at all.

When do you use all the different balls? Do you play them anyway? Mainly when you have only a handful left?

A par 5 at my home course has taken 3 ProVs last summer from a friend who bombs it to the middle of a very wide and long fairway each time with no roll-out. I tell him to not take a stroke because it makes no sense. I'm thinking a gopher or bird, but no evidence.

I never use to stock up on balls before this season, I always would buy um the night before or the day of a round. I have started to stock up this year because I hate when I have to rush to get some balls before a round.

In dozens,

6 x 2012 Xv balls

2 sleeves of 2013 Prov1X (no idea what to do with these balls)

2 boxes of "Practice" Lethals coming in the mail this week

My treasure: 1 box of TM Red LDP balls.

I was a single capper and I am heading back down there again since I got my doc's OK to play again and my intention is head back down to a 3 that I once was & not to lose too many balls per round so I don't go too crazy with my collection at this time.

The only box of bought golf balls I have is an unopened 12 pack of rocketballz. I am a sucker for like green.

I only game the balls my girlfriend finds in ponds. We have about 640 balls of various brands at the moment.

I asked this in another thread but no one answered. I have no issue holding the green with any ball I play. Would it be worth it for me to switch it exclusively playing a ball like the Pro v1 ?

For my game (slow swinging bogey golfer) the only advantage to "Tour" balls is holding greens. But on my home course that's a real challenge. So that's what I use.

OTOH when you can get "Tour" urethane performance for $15-18/dozen (Lethal, FG Tour) or even $12-15/dozen (20XI-I) there is no downside to playing the good balls...so why not?

What do you have in your rotation? I'm not talking the shag bag of found balls.
ROTATION? I don't know any decent players who have a ball "rotation". I have 11-12 dozen Bridgestone B330s that I will play until I run out. Then I'll either restock them or go to another ball and lay in a supply of them. "Rotating" golf balls is going to do absolutely nothing for your game except make it worse.

Hidalgo,

Next you'll be telling us not to change to a different driver, putter, lob wedge and 3-wood every round. That's just Crazy Talk. Everyone knows serious golfers have a "rotation" of three Tour balls, two distance balls and a couple of low-compression Winter balls along with 30 or so clubs. You pick one of each at random on the way out the door. What could be more serious than that?

:cheesy:

Well, I had to assert my opinion. The OP (and some others) obviously has a far different approach. Obviously all of the manufacturers encourage people to "buy a golf game" instead of putting in the work required to learn how to play. :derisive:

Thanks to the nike 20xi deal, I have 7 more dozen 20xi-x to add to my stash. I'm hoping they can compare to the xv, I haven't played this version but heard good things.
