Absolutely shocked the amount of people who seem to think its acceptable to keep a club that they've found on a golf course. Its an honest game for goodness sake.

I've found golf clubs, GPS units, and a Nikon range finder and never once did it cross my mind to keep them. I once found a Scotty Cameron head cover on a course I had paid onto and stuck it in my bag. I forgot all about it and it wasn't until the next day that I remembered about it. I phoned the pro and stuck it in the post back to the club in case someone was looking for it.

Back on track the strangest thing I've found has been a pipe and some false teeth in the rough. I guess someone took a tumble and lost them!

I played with a guy yesterday, who related a story about playing one of the Disney courses.

He hooked his drip deep into crap, on the left side of the fairway. When he found it, he saw a stone marker that said:

"If you're reading this marker, you're 80 yards off line. Please visit the pro shop and schedule a lesson".

Last summer during my home club's invitational tournament I had to meet the greens keeper early on Sunday morning to mark the pins for the final round. We get to the third hole and don't see the pin in the hole. Then we notice some type of rod stuck in the green....not the hole but about two feet away.

It turned out to be a 3 foot long piece of 1 inch all thread. We never found the flag and could never figure out who or why someone would be wandering around the golf course at night with a piece of all thread.

It was a big tournament weekend with a lot of out of town people...

One morning when I was either mowing greens or raking bunkers, I found burned candles, butt prints, and a condom wrapper in a greenside bunker by the lake.

Question how is a club in a trash can considered a "lost club" I have never given my putter to the trash can to hold for me while I tee'd off!!! That sir is fair game!! And for all you good hearted people that turn clubs and other things into the club house because no one is around you, The workers will take the clubs if they stay there for more then a week!! That is most course's policy!!!

Glock- wasn't loaded. Turned it in. They looked at me pretty funny carrying a handgun into the clubhouse.

I would have had a hard time not keeping that, I have a soft spot for glock as it was my first pistol.

In NY (or at least NYC) NJ and I'm sure a few other gun unfriendly states if you were to get caught down the road with a unregistered handgun it is mandatory prison time.

A guy. Face down in the woods next to the tee box. I saw him after we teed off and started to leave. I saw a shoe out of the corner of my eye and followed it up to a human body. We wanted to make sure we weren't at a crime scene and made sure he was alive. Thankfully he groaned a bit when we poked him with the butt of a club. He managed to tell us to go away when he could put some words together. We then found out that there was a bachelor party ahead of us.

If I ever find a nice a club, I will give my name and number to the pro shop, and keep the club. If sometime calls I'll return it, if they can identify it. If no one claims it, it's mine. LOL. Like someone else said, pro shop workers will take unclaimed clubs.

I lost an old Anser putter two seasons ago...pretty sure the douchebag twosome behind me took it, but couldn't prove it...although I used it to putt out on 8, and it was gone when I teed off on 9. Also lost the PW to my Titleist Model 100 set when I first started playing.

I found some dudes credit card on a tee box. We caught up to the guy at the turn trying to buy food with a card he no longer had. He was very, very grateful that we found it. He was so grateful after our round he bought me and my friend nine holes of golf.

I've worked at several courses and know how lost clubs and such are dealt with at several other courses. None of the courses in my experiences let the workers take the clubs after a week. All were held until at least the end of the season. We actually had one guy pick up his club the following season. He stopped in to play the course every summer while on vacation.

Some rich Dude got pissed and threw it out!! Plan and simple thats what happened!! There are plenty of people with more money then sense!!

Around here clubs that's are found are often put into the trash can sticking up, so it's easier for people to find if they come driving back looking for it. If it was broken, i.e shaft snapped or something, that's different. But if it was a perfectly good club sticking out of the trash it was most likely lost and someone put it there, sticking up so someone could see it easier. Same if a club is leaning against the tee marker. This summer I was playing this par 66 goat track by myself late in the day. It's close to my house and just wanted to get in a few low key holes. Shortly after I started I saw a really nice Mizuno wedge sticking out of the trash can. Never thought of picking it up (it was righty anyway so wouldn't have done me any good). Finished up and drove back and it was still there. So I dropped it off in the shop on my way out.

Found a 60* Vokey wedge stuck in the mud along side the 15th hole at the RTJ Trail Hampton Cove River Course in the marsh area on the right side. Was a 4* of bounce 60. Cleaned it up and still use it. I think someone got mad and tossed it in there while it was very wet and never went in to retrieve it because of that. Middle of summer, when I found it, it had been really dry so it was easy to access the area. I saw the grip end sticking up and was wondering what it was. Walked over and yanked it right out.

How do you lose a putter when you putted out with it??? Did you need to stop and take a rest between the green and the cart? it never should have left your hand...

The only way i can see leaving a putter behind if if you put it down to chip and you chip in and in the excitement never go back and pick up the putter from where you chipped from

I would love to know how it didn't make it back. I must have put it down around the green, don't remember what for. Went back to the green, the guys were like, "Haven't seen it." They were riding us pretty hard all day, and we're hitting on us...but we couldn't go any faster due to a group ahead. Pretty sure one of them snagged it. It never got turned in to the pro shop.

What course did you play/work at where the "1 week" rule was policy? I never heard that rule before and years ago I worked in the pro shop of a course where clubs were turned in often.

Also , I found a rolex, think it was an oyster perpetual ( I know right.), I'm pretty sure it was legit as I was playing a good course. I didn't tell my playing partners as I didn't want them to know about it . Anyway when i came in i examined it closer and found it said "Happy Birthday" on the back . I decided to hand it in but i left my name and number to the office in case the person returned . I got a call the next day saying that an envelope was left for me in the office . I called there the next weekend and when I opened the envelope it was a letter and a 100 euro note thanking me for handing it in. I felt so good and honestly, it wouldn't have felt right to sell it
That is such an awesome story and you, Sir, have immeasurable integrity. I would LOVE to hear the story of how in the world the guy lost/left it. And even better would be their side of things in how it felt to get it back.

Well done!
Well in the letter he said he had gotten it from his late wife for his 70th birthday and that his dream was to own a Rolex one day . He said he thinks he lost it when he went to take food out of his bag and that it was the putting his bag in the car that he noticed it was missing. He went to the pro and told him about it and said it was unlikely he would get it back. He left me his number in his letter and told me to ring him so we could meet up for a round some time but I have still to ring him . Perhaps I should but I'm happy the way things are. I don't want to take anything more from him

Like I could have sold the watch for 5-10 k fairly easily , but knowing this story and how I would have felt selling that Rolex really make see that there is a lot more to life than money
