At the John Deere Classic today:

Is strick still using that 913? Coverage showed a driver that looked darker than usual

Yes, you can get low spin with the weight in the rear like this new Titleist driver.......... 7.5* loft, ie LOFT DOWN!

Anyone for fried worms. :D
There are many ways to achieve low spin. PING's i25 is low spin and it's not CoG forward.

Lofting up was TMAGs afterthought when their fundamental consumer base of 20 handicappers couldn't keep the ball in the air. The board panic'ed and, subsequently, their marketing team came up with a "Loft Up" campaign months after release. Every golf retailer's used rack is littered with 12* SLDR drivers.

...lofting up a CoG forward club is not the best way to achieve the goal because it's "home run or strikeout" from the tee box.
So I went into a local off corse shop today looking for hybrids for my wife. They had EIGHT (8) used SLDRs - most of them looked brand new. More used SLDR than all the Titlest combined (or Callaway combined, or Ping combined...).
What our friend BirdieBob doesn't realize is that when he is trying to achieve 17* launch angle with his SLDR he is inevitably hitting the ball with a glancing blow. 12* and 14* drivers don't impact the ball as purely and the energy transfer is more vague when a guy who typically plays a 8.5* driver is forced to use a 12* to get his spin up to 2200.

But that's for another thread..

He's still 913, the pic below is from today's third round at the John Deere.

Stricker would probably still be playing his 909 if it hadn't cracked almost exactly two years ago to the day: http://www.titleist....ampionship.aspx

That's because a lot more SLDR drivers have sold than any other driver out there. Plus with the TM money back guarantee, some of those SLDR drivers were due to come back.

The same can be said for the 913 D3. I have seen more than the usual number of 913 D3s in used club sections than usual. Most people don't realize than the 913 D2 is the Titleist driver for the masses.

The one thing I have noticed is that the 913 Drivers are just sitting on the shelves collecting dust, even with the price drop. It looks like most of the Titliest players have figured out that the 915 Series is coming out and are just waiting until release.

That's very true what you say about the Titleist 913's, and partly due to, as you say, the imminent release of the 915, but also because that it is nearly 2 years old now, and people simply like to see new, 'better than before' releases, because that's how some OEM's have marketed themselves over the last few years, so many have been conditioned by that.

Secondly, when TM say they sell more 'Woods' than anyone else, that may be true, but we also have to consider how they come to that stat. Their figures are based upon sales to retailers, not sales to the Public, that is relevant and there is a difference. You'll find twice as many SLDR's on ebay than 913's, that in spite of the fact that the 913 has been out for twice as long.

Lies, damn lies and Statistics again! Just depends on how we all look at, and really break down all these stats. And that's down to the individual and how they want to see things.

I think there is a stigma around Titleist woods, many people think titleist is for "better" players and the masses are scared off. Then you throw in the previously mentioned release. I think Titleist owners are slightly more knowledgeable about equipment and it coincides with awareness of the release.

I think Titleist gear players want to keep that "players" stigma. As a company, Titleist says the Pro V1 and V1x are for all golfers. Unfortunately, Titleist does not market the 913 D2 and the AP1 as clubs that most golfers can play. Perhaps they should.

As you point out quite correctly, the 913 has been out twice as long. So maybe a better comparison would have been between the TM R1 and the 913 which came out in the same year.

You pulled the wrong clubs. Pull the resale value of the TMAG and Cally driver from the fall of 2012 not their newest model. Let's go with a TWO YEAR resale value

913 (2012) - $213
Opticforce (2013) - $9

So when Bubba Watson is getting a 15* launch with a 8.5* driver (and spin of less than 2000), that has to be pretty efficient. No wonder he leads in driving distance - and that is pretty straight driving distance for a big hitter.

Unseen, in the background, Fate was quietly slipping the lead into the boxing-glove.  P.G. Wodehouse

WOW...now lets see if they perform as well as the Sldr, X2 hot, etc. Interested to see how they feel compared to the 913 as it looks like they've finally advanced their technology

I agree, potentially exciting stuff from Titleist. Very interested in these and the G30.

It's not just such technicality. It's the only way to make the comparison.
Again, the point is a great one. I had never thought about it that way for some reason but it makes sense.

Like I said before, I can't wait to put it up against my SLDR and see who comes out on top. It looks great and hopefully it performs even better

Tee maybe closer , cally and TMAG close but not on, none cannot be .830 as manufacturing tolerances, variability could produce a non conforming club

Wishon is really high too, had a 929, performance wise, NASA blast off distance off the face, the 929 that's not even his hi cor model

That club rivaled my tour issue tested TMAG heads
I can assure you, Callaway is right up to the limit they can go for mfg tolerances. In regards to CT (the new measurement over COR), the limit is 257 at the top. I believe one of Callaway's first prototypes of the XHot woods from last year was north of 280.
I never questioned anyones fw's being hi cor, what we do not know are their tolerances, which is to me is more important.

254 was the top I thought? Correct me if I am wrong but didnt Cally a number of years ago, had a driver batch that where deemed non conforming - the OEM's definitely can go beyond the USGA limits.

We get hung up on having the max, check out the below on max COR/CT

http://www.golfwrx.c...really-830-cor/

Wishon's post #9 is interesting comment of COR/ CT
254 is what I thought initially too, but I found 257 somewhere...either way, it's right around there and we're talking 3 milliseconds ;)

I agree with what you said about tolerances though. We know the real 'legal' number is lower than that, but there's some wiggle room built in so OEMs target the highest allowable number they can with their own tolerances built in.

As far as what theirs are, I don't know what they are, but I think your point is those with a smaller tolerance will be hotter a greater percentage of the time, and I agree with you.
