With the release of the BB 815's, these should plummet in price pretty quick.
I understand the plan is to carry three levels of the premium driver line..so all three will be on the floor on Nov 13th, when the BBA 815 and BBA DBD roll out. They are all designed for a different needs player.
So I am confused why you haven't yet said which driver shaft combo I need...

Like all good golfers, you need to come in and try them all , and whatever else you want to hit to get them narrowed down and then we will do a complete shaft fitting and get you on your way!!

No.

As the intelligent member above noted, Callaway has 3 lines for 3 types of golfers. If you need lite and enjoy the sound and shape of the V, a little nostalgia in the sole, need more spin and high launch, then V ... I am enjoying the V in driver, but I think I'm enjoying the fairways as much, if not more.

The BB 815 is for almost every golfer -- it's the Lexus/BMW of the lineup. Lots of technology and performance... select the correct loft and shaft, and away you go.

The Double Black Diamond is the Ferrari -- experts only..

Forged composite crown would keep them from being able to use the tumble finish that the original BB had
Your probably right about the original finish. Could have been an epic club at 400-430cc (to cut weight) and the warbird sole, original finish, modern weighting. They've released so many drivers, I don't see why they couldn't have released a modern/ larger headed version of the original as a TA or low handicap model. Would've been an instant classic!
Definitely like the look of the V series as the rebirth of Big Bertha, minus the cartoon on the sole. They really could have made waves with a finish similar to the original grey.
Cleveland Golf tried some retro finishes with the brushed steel look on recent Mashies and the Persimmon inspired look of the Classics Drivers. I don't think it really caused any waves.
But to each their own. Retro Cars and Sneakers still sell well.

I think they've just had more time with it as it came out a few months ago. Is the 815 available to tour players yet?

They are all top of the line BB Series. The V has less adjustments therefore is slightly less expensive.

I don't think most pros need quite as low spin as we think. Their attack angle and release is much more consistent and limits the high spin numbers.

As many pros chose to shape their tee ball and control distance, super low spin is also not always ideal.

Last season more pros seemed the game the BB over the Alpha.

Why?

Pros are using the 9 degree V Series ... how much lower can you go as to handicap?

The V Series doesn't get many props here ... but it's an attractive head, deep face, aerodynamics and less weight for more speed. The sound/feel is direct and not overly muted, the liteweight Bassara shaft plays to flex, and the Speeder 565 is available at no up charge. The ball really takes off with this driver, moreso than the X2Hot - hot and penetrating flight. I've had to tee it down in a 10.5 and I typically have a positive AOA.

To deal with the longer length, I installed a Balance Certified Shaft Stabilizer, and it made a significant difference in terms of consistency and contact. Did not believe it at first. But I put the 2 weights closer to the head of the club than the grip, and I was surprised. Typically, I think "bleh" when I try these cb weights. But this one seemed to work. We're talking about putting substantial weight in your hands.

But if the driver is good, you should demo the fairways. These are winners...

I played 18 yesterday with one that had Speeder in it. For me, not enough to move me off my gamer an FT-3 tour, but I really like that Speeder shaft.

for me the V-series is one of the best callaway driver since couple years. I played the big bertha this season and the V-series is 6-11 yards more carry(same shaft).. its a lot for me!. I work in a golf shop so I try every drivers this years and callaway has a winner with this V-series.

It feels like yesterday that I owned this driver, and hit my record longest drives that still stand, 390 yards, and at least a dozen around 350 or so. To think it's so old that they have a replica makes me feel old. I don't think I could look at a driver with grooves anymore.

I liked the feel of it over the BBA 815, got a couple more mph out of it too! Trying to find a shaft that works with it. Hopefully carts will have the Rogue for the DBD to try in the BBV. The 565, Bassar, ZT and Z are not my cup of tea. Need something more tip stiff. What's being paired with it on tour? Not that I swing like them but sometimes it gives you a clue in what direction to go.

Sang Moon Bae is using it with a GD MJ-7 which is more responsive in the tip but more mid and butt stiff. It'll really depend on the selected loft and how you want it to feel and launch. Like you, I was expecting something more tip stiff.

I have to say I really like the V-series head. LOVE the shape, sound, and feel and would love it if they dropped a gravity core in it to get it another 200-300 rpm's lower in spin. I compared it to the 815 head both playing at 9* and I was getting near identical numbers. Again that's just for me but the 9* Vseries head is a BEAST.
