Callaway's new Big Bertha V-Series driver shot at the 2014 WGC Bridgestone

I like the colors. Better than the ugly orange stuff of the X2.

Are both heads using a light grip? If so, how light?

not my driving philosophy. Long as heck and wild as heck. Custom lightweight grip included. Like a fly rod.

Waiting for a company to release 44.5" drivers with a D4 head as standard.

I heard the lighter the driver head the less pages it's thread is on WRX. Any truth to that?

I know most of the focus is on the driver, but is anyone slightly excited to try the fairway woods?! These look like a reincarnation of the old Bertha fairways with modern technology. I'm thinking of weighting a 3-wood up heavy (I know, taking the Velocity out of it) and trying it. It's 15.5* so could be perfect for what I am looking for.

Did you see the video with doc hock and Harry? Heaven wood coming in it as well. Heck yes.

Prob get flamed for this but I like the logo. Really cool looking.

So what is the purpose of a Heavenwood? Looks like it has loft of a 7 wood and shaft length of a 4 wood.

Is anyone else disappointed with the stock shaft option for the fairway? And is the head adjustable or not?
I'm going strictly off of presumption, but I won't be ordering one yet, simply due to the overall lightweight.

As far as adjustability, I'm pretty sure there are no plans for fairway adjustability now.

Loft up in your fairways :)

Really just giving you an easier launch and more distance due to the length. They were INCREDIBLY popular back in the Callaway reign

In looking through Callaway's offerings, there are what look like a few no upcharge shaft offerings. Aldila Tour Green being one of them, which is a shaft I like, so that would be what I'd swap for.

There's a Callaway Talks video on the Callaway media page with Doc Hoc and Harry Arnett where they address many of the questions posed in this thread. Among those is the Heavenwood. They talk about their reasoning and it's performs values.

Was really excited about the fairways, until I saw the D0 swingweights. Ugh.
I thought that too with the XHP and put a Motore Speeder 8.1x in it at 42.5" and it came out at C9! But I had played it for 2 months prior to checking the swingweight...! I put some lead tape on the bottom to get to D1-D2 and it felt horrible...went back to C9 and loved it again. I am not so obsessed with overall swing weight...if it feels good and performs consistently...that is most important.

From a builders standpoint a light driver head is ideal for fitting players. Most tour heads are designed that way then hotmelted to spec.

I agree, swingweight isn't necessarily the end all in how a club plays. But as someone who plays a draw I've found the lighter the club the more I can hit a snapper. I'd love to get a higher lofted fairway in this shape to fit the gaps in my bag, but I'd prefer something with a tad more weight. Not saying I won't try them out as I'll certainly give them a shot, it just tempers my excitement a little.

Indeed, lighter is better for club builders than heavier, but with all of the adjustability in modern drivers, why don't they use external weights? Relying on holt melt limits average consumer adjustability. Is there a port on these heads?

Well it's geared towards people who can benefit from a lighter overall construction. It just so happens that light weight heads are great for building heavier clubs too because as stated above it's easier to add weight in specific places then take weight away. Plus hotmelt just makes things better from an acoustic perspective and ability to add weight exactly where you need it.

 • 2 weeks later...

^^^

Well, it's August 22 and I just happened to be at my local PGA Superstore tonight and saw and hit these. Nice looking clubs for sure, still uncertain about the weight. I hit the 3w and heavenwood, both felt nice but with 50g shafts in them it felt light to me, but not terribly light and perhaps I could get used to it. The heavenwood is an interesting if not confusing club to me. Shaft length was just short of the 3w. I compared it to the 7w and couldn't see a ton of difference, perhaps the heavenwood is slightly taller. Certainly a neat club, just not quite sure of the intention or where it might fit in the bag. Might be more of a niche club. Not a bad club by any means, just not sure how or where it fits with the rest of the line.
