I was a volunteer standard bearer at the Stadion Classic at University of Georgia golf course in 2013. One of the players in my group was Bill Lunde. Really nice guy, doesn't play exciting golf, just good old fashioned consistency.

Was a great experience. Wish him the best!

Remember the controversy surrounding last year's Top 25? Several of them had their priority rankings diminished by poor performances in the web.com TOUR finals.

This year the top 25 will carry their earnings into the finals, virtually guaranteeing a rightfully hard-earned priority ranking heading into the PGA TOUR's 2014-2015 season.

Not exactly.

In 2014 the determination of the priority ranking changed. The top 25 from the regular season money list carried their earnings to the Finals, competing among themselves for priority. The top 25 earners in the Finals only, not including the top 25 from the regular season, again earned PGA Tour cards. The priority rankings were then determined be a "zipper method" with the top 25 in combined regular and Finals earnings taking rankings 1, 3, 5, ... and the top 25 from the Finals taking rankings 2, 4, 6,

In short, you're still going to have guys who earned their card during the regular season with low priority rankings, but there is some protection for a player who finished high on the regular season money list who has a bad finals.

Hopefully the PGA has worked out the wrap around season to get these guys some real shots at earning and keeping a card. Last year these guys did not have a very fair shot at keeping a card.

Why is Ortiz part of the 25? He should have got a battlefield promotion and #2- #26 ( Cappallen) should move up, no? yes? Cap's caddie was trying to find out late Sunday in Portland, I was driving him around at Witch Hollow

I remember being so glad he lost that big break final to Pat Perez' brother those Finau boys were insufferable and cocky thinking they were the next Tiger Woods turning pro at 15 and 16.

I hope so too. It must be frustrating for guys who work their way onto to the tour having to watch washed up bums get spots ahead of you on medical exemptions and sponsors invites. Medical exemptions in particular are rortss which are blatantly abused by players struggling through the season knowing they have no hope of retaining their cards fair and square.

The automatic 25 get "zippered" with the final 25 for status on the PGA . : For example the #25 guy from this past week could be #50 by the end of the month and get very few starts on the main tour. The returning PGA get preference is what I was told by one of the caddies so no matter what the incoming freshmen get a bit hosed, but thats the way it is, better than not making it.

With the 3rd win he get conditional status for the remainder of the PGA tour season, since he doesn't have any fedex points he won't be playing the rest of the season. So he is still #1 in money. Hope that makes sense.

Interesting, I hadn't thought of that scenario. Precedent for that was set in 2005 with Bubba Watson getting in on Jason Gore's 3-win promotion. It happened mid/late season rather than the end. That brings up a good question.

Hard to believe 2 time master champ barely made it on tour at what is now considered advanced age of 27. Must of been his caddy holding back all those years.
