I played in a 4 man scramble on an easy course, although long. One of the teams had Ryan Palmer (still amateur) and three very good players, US Am qualifiers etc, and they shot 56 in the wind. That is my baseline for excellent, legitimate play. 44 is either a net score, there was some kind of odd scoring advantages or they cheated. What was the next score?

I've played different scrambles that have used what I'd call the "yard stick rule", and I've seen it cause many scoring problems.

For anyone who doesn't know this and I've played in many scrambles before I ever heard of it, you'll get a yard stick, and can improve your lie by the length of the yard stick on any shot. I've seen it happen where people interpret this to mean - if my group hits a shot into the green that lands within 3 feet of the hole, per the yard stick rule, the ball is in the hole. So on a par 4, if you were to hit it within 3 feet on your second shot, the "theory" would be that the ball is in the hole for a 2, instead of having a tap in 3, birdie.

This is the only possible explanation that I can think of.

i've played in a few 4-man scrambles but always with high(20+) and medium(15+) handicappers and the lowest we got was a -4 although if we were all singles i can imagine a -10 or thereabouts would be possible but a -28??---you gotta be kidding!!

I mean i played in a scramble a few years ago and the winning team shot -19 short course plus the team was 3 highly ranked state Am's and one Pro. Longest par 5 is only 554 other is 525 and last is 465 from tips so the course is get-table if you have skill. Thing is the score was legit cause 2 teams played each hole together and kept other teams score. The team we played with shot 15 under and i thought they would run away with it. We shot a killer 5 under. LOL

I played in some unlimited string tournaments and even then those kind of scores would have been nearly impossible. 50 is pretty much the limit there. I'm hoping that you didn't just let it happen, and someone made a stink about it.

I was coming back to say the same thing.... this stinks even more that 2nd was a 48.

I think it is abundantly clear what occurred here. The winning team actually played the course in reverse. The teebox for 1 was played to the 18th green. The 18th tee box to the 17th green, the 17th tee to the 16th green and so on...

No way in Hades did any four man team shoot 44, period! Reason 468 why I absolutely detest scrambles.

I know scrambles are for charity and typically very good causes and that's how I treat them, more of a donation to the cause so to speak.

[/quote]I witnessed cheating at a scramble that was appalling. On the longest drive hole, someone had put it out there decently and marked it. Our foursome was heading down the next hole that parallels the longest drive green, but of course, in the opposite direction. A guy hits a nice drive on the LD hole but is about 3-5 yards behind the previous LD marks but pulls the indicator, signs his name on it, and calls his drive the longest. We all new the guy, and all agreed that he boned the previous LD individual out of his drive.
