Just picked up my irons and my first impressions were just plain gorgeous. They are not as small as I thought. Ap2 size. My I25's are a little bigger all around. I am playing at 11:00

The course does not have a range but I went to a hole that I know the yardage to the flag was 145 yds. Right now it's 40 degrees so I choose an 8 iron. I hit 5 balls all within 2 yards of each other and all was about 12 feet from the flag. I am very impressed so far. I was worried about the KBS shafts going too high but based on 5 swings, the flight was perfect.

Also, I was not warmed up. I snuck out there without stretching. For the heavier golfers out there, they understand that the swing was not there yet.

I will post my results. I played 9 yesterday with the I25's and was just smoking the ball. I shot a 37. So today will be a good indicator because I feel my swing is just about as good as ever at this time.

Has anyone hit the 745's and 545's up against the Z-TX2's? Like the Z-TX2's a lot, but still interested to hear how they compare.

Yes. 4-pw Z 745 with KBS tour shafts

Not really much to report.I played with 3 older people and with the wind today, they wanted to play up (seniors) tees. They invited me to play so I sort of felt obligated.

Course was wide open. (Lakewood) for those that know the Statesville area. And it was playing 6010 yards.I only hit the 4 iron twice 8 iron and PW once. I was hitting my driver so good today, most holes were driver , 54* or 60* wedge.

What I can tell you from some of the shots I hit before the round is I am going to like the shafts. I was a little worried because I am playing graphite's from Ping My flight was perfect. Better than my I25's. The 745's feel more solid than the I25's. This is a good thing. The I25's can feel a little too mushy. By the small amount of times I hit the 745's, I can tell you they are not as forgiven as the I25's BUT it is darn close. I did miss hit a shot but it was always due to me getting use to a heavier shaft. I do have to say the miss hits were surprisingly good.

The 745's set up to my eye better. Just the looks of them is reason to buy them. The shape is just about perfect. The V sole is great. I am more of a sweeper I was hitting down on the ball to see how it went through the turf. It went through great. Never did it chunk the ball or hit fat. The divots I made looked like a pro made them.

If the 545's are more forgiven than the 745's, then the 545's should win club of the year. Now keep in mind I have only hit about 40 balls throughout the bag but I can't wait until I get out on my home course to play. I know that course so well, I will be able to tell you how the distances rate against my I25's

On a side note, my driver was on fire today. I was consistently hitting 275 yarders. I do not do that. Not to get preachy but when I started slowing my swing down and smooth out my tempo, my scores went from mid 80's to mid 70's instantly. It is amazing how this one little thing has helped my game. AND WE ALL KNOW THIS. We just can't for some reason. Rip it and grip it.

On a Par 5, with the wind helping some (5-10 mph), the group in front of use was exactly 300 yards out in the middle of the fairway. It was a tight fairway over the water so I thought I would swing easy to get it out there around 230. I hit the top of their golf cart. Man were they pissed. As I was apologizing, I couldn't help smiling.

My Ping's have fought off AP2'S, Scratch ez1-v2, Mizuno jpx 850 forged, and Mizuno MP64's since last August. For the first time, they are on the ropes.

Looking forward to reading about your journey with these irons, especially how they relate to your i25's, as I have i25's in my bag...

Nice write up TMelectric.

Still baffled by the comments on feel with these. I guess with the stock S300 shaft and paper thin UTX garbage grip they don't feel as soft perhaps as an Apex Pro or an MP-64 with a KBS tour or something, but having owned many sets of Epon/ONOFF/RomaRo/Mizuno irons, I can safely say these with the steelfiber 110 and NDMC grip feel really solid/dense/soft on good strikes. Huge difference between the way mine are set up and the stock demos. Srixon didn't do themselves any favors sending out demo clubs with S300 and grips that absorb zero shock imo.

Anything short of a perfect strike isn't going to feel good at all and someone with slower swing speeds hitting it well may not even get good feel that great with that combo. I've noticed anything higher on the face feels a bit harsh. Strikes mid face to a couple grooves lower feel fantastic even our towards the toe a fair bit.

Got my lightly-used set tonight via those champions of expedited deliveries: USPS. Seriously, like TM, it was a quick jaunt across the country for them :)

Hopefully get them out on the course Sunday!

I know these things aren't the easiest irons to get a hold of to try, so I took a few pics comparing them to what I have here at home, incase anyone is interested.

I actually think my I25's felt a little better. They have a mushy feel. But they also have graphite shafts and the new Golf Pride CP2 wrap/CP2pro grips. With the corded Srixon grip and KBS shafts, the 745's felt solid. Which I think I actually like more because I am getting more feedback.

The new Golf Pride CP2 grips have spoiled my hands because the corded Srixon grips roughed them up a little. lol I will be changing out soon.

For some reason, my ball flight was lower with the KBS shafts. They feel stout so that is part of it. But I believe the extra weight is keeping my tempo in check. Once I get over the feeling that I have to swing harder with these, I think they will be a good combo

TM,

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the Z745s so I'm doing some research to sort through the opinions about them. I came across this post and it looks like you are still squarely on the fence.....you like the i25s better but you like the feeling of the Z745s more? Which one is going in the bag this year and why? Thanks.

I did the PWs as well, but in fairness they aren't much different than the 7I to look at.
Going to drop them off to be reshafted after work (I'm not up for DGs anymore). Really looking forward to playing them!

I fell into XP95 5.5's by chance a couple years ago when looking at some Callaways.
I have them in the XHPs/X-Forgeds, the Mizunos, and previously some J36s, and for my spindly arms and beer-filled core they work a charm.

I was playing old Rifle 6.0s in my old clubs from 1999 when I started playing again and wanted to get to something lighter.
I tried the KBS and DG options in a 100g or so shaft and the XP95s worked the best for me.

They are not popular and they are too light to be a stock option for 'players' clubs, so I find myself just looking for the cleanest set of heads I can find, knowing I'll need to swap 'em.

I just got back from playing 9 by myself. I should have been working but I was excited about hitting the 745's. I hit the irons every chance I could. I also brought my I25's 8 and 6 iron to hit side by side. I even made a point to hit these on just about every hole.

This is what I am thinking after the 9 holes.

FEEL - a wash. What I can say is miss hits are worse with the Z 745's. It is letting me know just how many times I am missing the sweet spot. Which is a good thing. My I25's have graphites and a much better grip. So they should feel great.

FORGIVENESS - the I25's wins here. Several factors help the I25's. Lighter shaft and larger profile that makes you feel more confident. That being said, out of 10 shots with my I25 6 iron, 8 was great, 1 was good, 1 was bad. The Z 745's were 7 great, 3 good. To me, forgiveness is not going to be a deciding factor.

BALL FLIGHT / DISTANCE - the 745's win here. This is because of the shafts. My flight with the 745's felt perfect. A small little draw and mostly online. I started getting the feeling of being able to put the ball just about everywhere I wanted as long as I made a good swing. Within 10 feet of target. With my I25's, they are high, draws more, and with a good swing, I feel like I can get within 30 feet of my target. Distance was the same BUT, with the 745's, they were all within a yard or two. The I25's were within. 5-10 yards. Ex: I was 185 yards today the flag. The green was downhill and I had a little wind helping. I hit 5ea. 745's and 5ea. I25's. The 745's were between 180 and 182 yards. Almost in a straight line. The I25's were between 178 and 185 yards.

Now keep in mind, I consider myself an average golfer that on paper, I should play the 545's. I can shoot a 75 one day and 89 the next. Consistency is my problem. Plus chipping and putting but my ball striking is decent. I will play the Z 745's this year. This decision is based solely on the shaft. I feel like I would be more consistent in the wind and know my yardages better with the KBS tours. I can see myself putting in graphites in the 745's down the road because of my sore elbow. But so far, the KBS haven't hurt it yet.

I think the 545s should be the GI club of the year!!....have been looking at new irons and have tried loads!!!, the 545s have all the look of a players iron, short blade length, no offset etc, but have plenty of forgiveness, sorry Ping, titleist, Mizuno and the rest...compared to this years offerings from Srixon....might help if you take a look!!!

After comparing the 545's that Russ757 bought and my 745's, it should be a no brainer. go for the forgiveness. They look dang close. Now this is not counting on how the feel . I was afraid to try the 545's. Russ757 might have gotten a set of Nike pro combos in the box instead. lol

But, the 757's are really easier to hit than one would think
