Bump back to the top again. Some really big images in signatures. It's kind of a pain to have half of a screen taken up by images not related to threads.

I'll use my old (changed today) signature as an example of what NOT to have:

I would also recommend resizing the avatar BEFORE uploading it. It should be 125 pixels wide.

This way you get a much clearer image. Why? Because browsers do a lousy job of image resizing, because they have to do it so fast.

Use a decent image editing program, and resize it to 125 wide. The image size alogithm in the image editing software is 100x better than what the browser does. The one I use used to be about 5 times the size, but it's still very clear.

You can tell when someone didn't resize when you see a very sharp edges in their image.

Great advice. You can also tell when someone uploads an 800 x 600 image that scrolls down as it loads.

Yours is 150pixels wide! ;-)

The way to check is to right click on the avatar and choose properties. You'll see the filename listed for the image. The image size listed (at least in IE) is NOT the original size, but the size the browser is displaying.

Once you see the filename, you can copy and paste that URL into a browser and bring up the original file. Right click on THAT image and choose properties and you can see the actual image. You'll also be able to compare the image quality of the resized version to the original.

We are seeing people with pictures in their signatures and its causing delays in thread loads and post viewing odd formats. Please be kind to those with lower speed bandwidths.

Villa, general rule of thumb has always been, "if you have to ask..." ;) But that said, I think you're on the safe-ish side. Lot of leg but no crack or cleavage.

Figure it's time for another bump. Seeing quite a few images and for sale listings in signatures.

 

Guys this isn't a power trip, it's a matter of consideration for the folks who surf on low bandwidth and on mobile devices. Some guys are also accidentally creating funky code in their signatures which is messing with the board format for everyone.

Can we also make a rule that you can't hit the "reply" button to a thread with lots of pics, like bag pics or tourney pics. If they're in the thread once, no need to post a reply with all the pics over again.

That's a good one. Make sure there are no quoted attachments when you use a quoted message to reply.

It's free to sign up. You then set up your bag and can see how it will look. I just hadn't taken that step until after my first post...

Interesting that so many people are having problems. I disable all avatars and sigs/WITB in my account control panel. They just make things slow, and are not really that interesting. So FWIW, I've never seen anyone's avatar or WITB.

I did mine on there. Only issue I have with it, is that on most of the catagories, your selection is limited to the main OEM's. You can add more in the other part, but your selections are severly limited when it comes to the drop down menu's

Could you please clarify what this statement means? I frequently need to please but I apparantly am not a part of the throng who has modified my signature. Does this make me an outlier?

This observation may have sociological significance but my colleagues in the Social Science Department demand empirical testing. How was your experiment conducted? What statistical tests were performed to validate your findings? Were your findings statistically significant at the 95% confidence level? Inquiring minds want to know.
