I thought when I first read your post I was supposed to listen to Shane bacons podcast ... so I listened to the ones with Rory and breed in and out of D.C. And was confused/disappointed by the lack of a DJ story. Will listen to no laying up on the way home :thumbsup

Loved that Rory specifically goes on the podcasts of the new generation of golf writers who are funny and don't take themselves and golf too serious vs. the AWFUL dan Jenkins types of the past.

I don't talk to old farts. I talk to young punks that's why I am on here.

I'm sorry to hear that, it's disappointing.

Have you met Kent before? Ask the thread how old they thought he was based on his picture and their reactions upon meeting him for the first time.

Edit to say that I'm just messing around re "olds" since most of the older guys I've played with are fast. But it was definitely looking like a very long afternoon had I played.

i just got back from the blue mash short game area. everyone needs to stop working right now and get to a golf course. it is unbelievably nice outside.

Played for almost 4 hours, well past the darkness point when I should have gone in. Shorts in January, unreal. They were talking about how a year ago is when we got the 30"+ snowstorm. Going to enjoy this weather while it lasts.

Had a goddamn frost delay this morning in Palm Springs. Still got off at 7:30 as a twosome and played in 2:30. Game was pretty sketchy (still killing the Baffler though).

La Quinta Dunes, a Pete Dye "masterpiece". Elevated greens, lots of RR ties, water and fast greens. Great Scenery.

Gmen for as long as I can remember there was a booth at the Dulles golf show for that company. Years ago I think it even had Arnold palmer endorsement. Seems cool until you see it in person. The balls are little styrofoam packing pellets that fly all over the place. The concept was cool but the whole thing felt cheap. Like "break in a week" cheap. Although the novelty would probably wear off before that happened.

Now in a group setting with a competitive aspect and possible wagering it could be pretty cool

There are old golf writers who take themselves seriously, but I wouldn't toss Dan Jenkins into that category.

He wrote Dead Solid Perfect for Pete's sake.

And this. . .

I like to fire people. It gives me something to do when I'm not shaping shots.

Well, maybe you could take that as taking himself seriously because Tiger had snubbed him. He's a different animal than, say, John Feinstein.

I used to listen to No Laying Up, but I never thought it was very good. And it used to have terrible audio quality. I enjoy Shackhouse from time to time. I've also been listening to a lot of audiobooks. I'll get back into the golf pods when the tournaments start getting bigger.

If anyone likes to listen to podcasts, go give the one that Alan Shipnuck just did with Phil Mickelson a listen. I believe that it is under Golf.com. Phil is amazing in it. I can't imagine all of the stories he has from his all of his years on tour. I would love the opportunity to have a few beers with him and shoot the s***.

Golf Talk Thursday : What style putter head, and neck do you prefer?

Currently, mallet head. Plumbers neck.

I hit some nice putts with the Red X3, though, which was mallet head and a squiggly neck.

I have never really hit a normal blade putter well. Very few rounds to look back on positively. I don't think I've ever liked a putter as much as my Bridgestone True Balance. It's the rare putter that I picked up in a golf store one day and said, "I love this putter" and then got the putter and continued to love it every day since.

GTTh: Center shafted, with either a blade or a half mallet.

I really like my current putter (center shafted blade), and it has sentimental value to it, but I would definitely like to pick up a center shafted half mallet to play around with. Whenever I'm at Golf Galaxy or wherever and just spend some time putting, those are always my favorite

Golf Talk Thursday : What style putter head, and neck do you prefer?

Heel shafted mallet seems to be where I'm having my best putting days. I've had a 2 Ball F7 for years that for some reason I keep trying to knock out of the bag but it always makes its way back. Backup putters are a Yes Evelyn and a Yes Callie. despite it being a blade I seem to roll it really well with the Callie.

Tempted to give the new OWorks 2 Ball a try, I haven't like the last few versions of 2Balls that they've come out with.

GTT: love the look of a Napa style.

Part of me wants to go back to one but my putting has improved with a boring plumbers neck anser style.

GTT: heel shafted mallets

I've been using my Odyssey DF Rossie for 25 years or more. When I'm goofing around in the Golf Galaxy I tend to like the saber tooth mallets.

I love the look of old school Anser type putters, but when actually putting I just feel more comfortable with a larger, more massive head. Also I don't like center shafted putters. The shaft gets in the way of focusing on the ball.

Golf Talk Thursday : What style putter head, and neck do you prefer?

I love the Odyssey #9 style. I have played it for the last 9 years or so. I had the White Hot XG model and then moved to the Metal-X a few years ago.

I have always liked the #7 style too. I might have to pick one up this year in a straight heel-shafted version to play around with.

Mallet with plumbers neck.

I think the 330M I have now has been my the longest tenured putter (close to 2 years). I don't know if it is the head/neck style or the fact that it's counterbalanced, but I seem to roll it better than anything else.

You can get that putter with the fat pool noodle, the regular pool noodle, or a rubber grip.

You can also get it with a steel shaft.

Rubber grip, steel shaft, you're just getting a plumbers neck mallet, though. It defeats the "true balance" purpose. You're replacing a 33g shaft and 20g grip with a 115g shaft and 70g grip.

Bridgestone is an odd ball.

Question : does anyone here play a SINGLE bridgestone club? Have you ever?

My putter, you need to go to the "club archive" section.

GTT: whatever looks good at the time. Short answer: 330M half mallet with plumbers neck is the current favorite.

Longer, Eagle1997 answer: I spent 2-3 years with a B60, almost 20 years with an 8802 style, rotated in a Newport, the Ping B60, and Rossie II sometimes, moved to the TPA XVIII heads for another 5 years maybe, then the 330M style, and now with an Anser 2 and sometimes Zing 2. Yes, the 1988 Zing 2. And I pretty much still have something representative from all of the above if I need a change.

Never have. That said, my friend who I play with at EPP, every other weekend just put a set in the bag. Beautiful clubs, but what is weird is they have two PWs: PW1 and PW2.
