GTTh: The adjustable shaft answer is good, but I think it has a significantly bigger impact on my bank account than my game.

So realistically, I'm going to agree with eagle. Golfwrx has likely impacted my game the most, just from getting out and playing with golfers who enjoy the game.

Bucket hat technology has probably had some positive impacts on my game as well.

Golf Talk Thursday : What golf tech in the past 5'ish years do you think has impacted your game the most?

easy answer for me.

GolfWRX.com

not joking. i've met more golfy golfers and played more rounds of enjoyable golf with you nerds since joining this website. being on here has increased my joy in the game by a metric ton.

Not to get all sappy: But I agree 100%. This site has helped me a ton with meeting other people. Golfers, industry folks, and exposing me to so many more things that more than guys and gals that golf a couple times a year get exposed to. It allowed me to get into the industry and meet my best friend. It's given me more than I've given it. It's also conversely, prompted me to change my bag like 23 times over the past 12 years! LOL

OK, yoga story. But, I am trying to tie it back into golf.

I went to yoga yesterday because we're out of town this weekend. I normally go Sundays.

. . .anyway before class, she gets us to close our eyes and get breathing and she always gives us these meditations to focus on for the day. Sometimes this sh1t is funny. . .like Sunday she goes, "notice the things you're noticing. . . . .notice the things you're not noticing."

giphy.gif

Yesterday, she's giving us these reminders about "contrast". . .Think about what's hot and what's cold. Every inhale is a chance to get longer. Every exhale is a chance to soften. Think about what's tight and what's tender. Think about what you're thinking about and don't judge yourself.

OK!!!!

I'M THINKING ABOUT SEX!!!!! TIGHT AND TENDER SEX!!!!

So, she's going on. She tells us we're here to practice. We're not here to get stronger. We're not here to get more flexible. We're not here to judge our bodies or our poses. We're just here to be here and practice.

I actually found that to be good advice because going in I was literally telling my wife, "I'm going to try to hold those lunges longer". So, I tried to drop that idea and just do what yogi says. Trying to be open minded.

So, I have a pretty nice yo-sesh. Then, at the end of class, you lie down and hug yourself and close your eyes and she tries to tie it all together. And she goes, "I have this quote from Hermann Hesse I'd like to share with you."

“We are not going in circles, we are going upwards. The path is a spiral; we have already climbed many steps.”

Anyway, I thought that was a good golf lesson.

Question for City/Anyone who does Yoga on a regular basis:

I'm becoming intrigued by this yoga thing.

How much would you not be able to do because of a sore knee?

I'm not doing it regularly right now, but I have.

I'd say it depends on what kind of practice you're doing. If you're doing a more "power yoga" type deal with lots of lunges/warrior poses, and one leg balance type poses, it might f*ck you up. On the other hand, it might do great at helping you regain some stability in the joint.

Probably best to just work with a yoga instructor and talk to them about where you're at with the knee. There are so many ways to modify the practice and such, it's definitely good to have some instruction.

Talk to the teacher before class if you have injuries.

One of our first poses each class is (edit) baby CHILD pose and she tells us to return to this pose any time we're feeling uncomfortable or tired, or whatever.

Also, any pose is basically just how far you can/want to push it. Like, some folding pose, she wants your legs straight and back straight, but she'd rather have you standing up straight meeting those characteristics than being bent over for a huge hammy stretch that hurts and rounds your back. As time goes by, you get lower, but keep the fundamentals.

All good points. A couple of the 30-45 minute classes I do are a lot of balance work (warriors/trees etc) that I would think you'd want to take really slow on a bad knee.

On the other hand there are some good 15-20 minute classes that are a lot more ground stretching.

Definitely ask your doc or PT guy, I'm sure they'd be able to find something that would work.

Oh, actually I meant Child's Pose.

Right, it's probably not possible for you right now.

Work on that knee flexibility, though. Of course your PT person has told you this, but every day stretch that sh1t. Bend it like a quad stretch, and lean into like a hammy stretch. You don't want it all knitting back together without stretching or it will be much tougher to get the flexy back later.

Yes, I've had knee surgery.

Have you guys seen there's another run on Nike shoes at discount retailers again?

http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1459744-no-buy-sell-trade-posting-ross-nike-shoes-again/

I really want a pair of these.

IMG_0219-1-1021x580.jpg

There are a couple Burlington Coat Factory stores close to work that I scoped out, neither of which had anything. I'll probably end up caving and buying a pair from somebody flipping them on eBay.

She shoes are good for being light. The treads are what really sells them. They're great and very stable. Looking at them you'd never think so, but they're great.

I bet it's super comfortable, but that shoe is ugly AF. I don't even think eagle would wear those.

Was just writing that about those chukkas, they're one step removed from a full blown high top - and not a good step.

Correct. Nike's shoe line in 2016 was odd. Someone forgot to tell the designers that people already had socks, and didn't need that silly ankle nonsense. The FI Premieres I have are comfy shoes, but look goofy when you are wearing shorts and don't have the ankle part covered. My legs look goofy enough with that stuff going on.

I like nike's new golf/spin class hybrid shoe

I like the black on black look. My first thought though was do you wear socks with these or not? I'm not sure I would like not wearing socks while playing golf.

I like the FI Premieres a lot so far. Haven't worn them with shorts yet though.
