Golf Talk Post-Jizz-Sock-Friday: how many skins will there be at Potomac Shores tomorrow?

 

28 2-man scramble teams. I don't expect birdie will win anything. Eagle on the par 5s may not be enough. There is a possibility of an eagle on a short 4 out there. I wouldn't be surprised if there were 0 skins out there tomorrow. That's be a huge PITA for the guy who is collecting and distributing money. Glad I'm not that guy.

Not going to be a lot, especially in a scramble with that many teams. Might even take a lucky hole out situation like on 8 - depending on where the tees are I bet at least a handful of guys can get it up near the green.

 

10 - an eagle might get it done, that's still a very impossible stupid f'n 2nd shot. Gotta hit a great drive to get over the bunker and then even get a 2nd shot to the green.

 

13 (?) - last year the golds played 210 and Puppet holed out that bunker shot for birdie to win us a skin, thats still a long par 3 for just about everyone in the field.

 

Then one of the par 5s on the back that plays pretty long, it would take two big shots to get there in 2.

 

So I'd say no more than 3 skins.

Prediction: There will be four team skins tomorrow. Each will pay $125+ depending on how many throw their hat in the pot. One on a par three, two on par 4s, and one on a par 5.

 

Day-of PayPal to anyone early who wins- no one has to stick around for two hours to collect. Learned my lesson last year that holding envelopes of cash until we see people again is a very ineffective way of distributing skin $.

My official guess is 2 skins. Just saying that 0 wouldn't surprise me. Maybe an eagle on the toughest 5 and a random birdie elsewhere.

 

Eagle can spout averages I bet, but the DCGT better ball or shamble events Ive been in have been 4ish skins with half as many teams. I just don't see much going on with 28 scramble pairings.

zero chance i can spout averages, lol. i'd venture to guess that there are *typically* more than 4 skins per event. i don't have a ton of scramble formats tho. maybe i should change that, especially considering the turnout for tomorrow.

 

may 6th is a shamble at bristow manor. i'm gonna see if i can spot the ghost. hopefully bubbagump plays and he can regale us with tales of the occult post-round.

Played 18 at Worthington this afternoon after cutting out of work early. Greens were disappointing, still recovering from being punched. They must not of punched the practice green. Hit balls and putted for 1.5 hours after the round to prep for TRU. Find me on the EagleGrint to see how I played. Most interesting thing was seeing that they are turing the upper grass range into another practice range. Probably will lead to even less days with the grass range open but with free range balls who can complain.

Hit Prince William for 18 yesterday (ride) and today (walk). Tale of two different rounds with nearly identical scores. Yesterday I joined up with a cool dude and got to play fast (under 2:30). Didn't feel fast either as we waited on a couple of holes on the back nine. Today I played with two cool dudes. Would've seemed faster (only 3:40) if not for the walking. I tired in places so got a little loose with my swing--but I need the exercise.

 

I feel like I'm hitting my irons better (and longer) but my alignment is still off at times or I'm hitting too far inside and costing myself some GIRs. Missed three long putts today by a total of about 1/2 inch. One chip-in yesterday, off-the-green putts both days (one from about 45 feet).

Driver has been pretty good at times. Still trying to groove the swing but yesterday (3x 260, 1 x 285) and today (2 x 250, 1 x 270, 1 x 290) have more or less convinced me to keep the EPIC in the bag for now.

 

Greens were punched so that cost me a couple of shots. The fairways were in good shape, tee boxes could use some work and I wish they had real sand in the bunkers--I hit out of one yesterday--instead of dirt.

 

Great weather to play/walk. Glad I was able to get out there. Hoping to get a round in Sunday before TRU and the VSGA rules course/round at Dominion Valley next weekend.

GTF 2.1- playing at Hobbits on the 7th. He shanked his driver into a bush on the right hand side of the tee box.

Played at one of my fav courses. Sam sneads last design down in Va.

 

Drove the ball very well and only had one real miss. The front nine was an even 36. Maybe one of the most boring nine holes of golf. No birdies and no bogeys. Had 4 good putts at birdie and even missed one from like 4 feet- Just terrible. Odd feeling to think you shot 40 but it was even.

 

Back nine caught me off guard. On the 11th my drive went through fairway into a small creek. Next hole hit a nice iron that got killed by wind. Skulled the bunker shot but had the up up and down. Nice 3.5 hour round at an old course with and old buddy. Good times. Back at it to another old course with some other old buddies.
