I thought it was odd too. I thought I might get 8 from the blacks, but nope 7 it is. It doesn't really make sense to move back then (for me at least).

i thought there would be an issue printing up scorecards, but since it appears that strokes will be the same regardless of tee, it makes no difference.

 

this can't be right, can it?

 

i need Nerf, City, PQ, FABB, 2more or someone with knowledge to explain this to me. i am perplexed.

ah, yes of course. blind spot. i had applied this for WGAT individual tourneys. DCGT players tee off from different tees based on handicap BUT everything is (wait for it) gross scoring. post-round flighting evens stuff out too.

course handicap stroke allocation adjustment, based on the course rating, per rule 3.5:

 

white (0)

blue (+3)

black (+5)

 

example: i'm a 5.8 and i'll be playing the blue tees. i review WC scorecard for slope (it's 136 from the blue tees). plug in numbers here. with the adjustment, my CH will be 10, not 7.

 

a 2.1 index would have a CH of 8 (getting 5 additional) from the tips.

 

the kicker: if anyone moves UP a tee box, they lose their bonus strokes for both rounds. CH will be calculated based on the closest tees you play all day (email had a typo that said furthest). so if i decide to play the whites in round 2, i lose those 3 extra bonus strokes.

 

confused? yeah, me too. but, it totally makes sense.

No. My 9.1 gets me either 10 (whites) or 11 (blues)

Here we go with examples. This is how we calc'd it at the VE tourney too. CityGame special. The base handicap is off the whites. So calculate your course handi with the slope of the tees you are playing, then add the difference between the rating of the tees you are playing and the white tees.

 

My index: 13.6 (barf).

 

Hwiskey Creek

Blue: 72.1 / 136

White: 69.3 / 129

 

From the whites my course handi is 13.6*129/113 = 15.52 rounds up to 16.

From the blues, my course handi is 13.6*136/113 = 16.36 rounds down to 16. But then add 72.1 - 69.3 = 2.8 rounded to 3.

 

So from the whites I get 16, from the blues I get 19.

When players play different tees in a tournament you need to calculate course handicap from the tees they're playing based on the SLOPE rating and then make an additional adjustment for the different tees based on COURSE rating.

 

It's not easy or obvious,and it's easy to forget to do if you don't normally do it.

 

Some people will wind up getting 3 more strokes from moving back a tee if their ch stays the same from both tee. Some people will get 4 because their ch goes up 1 when they move back a tee. (conceivably could get 5,i think)

 

You basically need to think of it as "what score would this person make to shoot net 0 for their tee?"

 

So, a 10 handicap would have to shoot 79 if he was playing whites and a 82 if he was playing blues.

 

Or just think of it as two scratch players playing each other. If one was whites and one was blues, the guy on whites would have to give 3 shots to the one on blues.

What's the stroke difference between the tees Eagle? 3? Kind of intriguing solely from the strokes perspective. Worth getting an extra stroke on the mid-cap holes?

 

I'm playing with endless, JJ, and DT in the morning, so I imagine they will all play the blues. Maybe I'll play blues in the morning, then whites in the second 18. Especially if I make mediocre scores from the blues on those extra few holes that get strokes. If I make all net bird on those holes and that will disappear, that's another story.

 

just saw the email, tee times, groups and tees.....says white, but i feel i should be playing from the blues. Can't wait to hit the white rock around for 36 holes and i promise Sully, no mexican food on tuesday night.
