I still don't know what best ball with yourself means...

first, you lock the door.

then, you make sure your supplies are within arms length.

next, you take off your sock.

i'll leave the rest to your imagination.

for real: self best ball is a ridiculously fun format. it's actually a great way to judge how good you *could* be. you're playing two rounds of golf, and we're taking your best score on each hole.

say you make a bogey on the first hole in round 1. then, you make a par on the first hole in round 2. your official score for that hole: par. rinse and repeat for 18 holes.

Follow-up question. Isn't that self better ball?

yes. but it's fine to call it best ball, even tho there are only "two players" involved. you're not playing the rounds simultaneously, so a little latitude on naming is ok.

Please refrain from adding me to your "maybe" low score scenarios. While it is a pleasure to be grouped with golfers of such a high skill level, it is giving me false hope. I am certainly not over estimating my abilities for Wednesday. I suck right now.

My plan is to play the whites first round then maybe blues for second round also will probably be arriving early so I can beat beltway traffic also wondering about breakfast choices.

sorry, but this is absolutely the worst strategy. you don't get the "bonus" strokes if you're not further back ALL DAY. you're course handicap will be based on the CLOSEST TEES you've played out of either round - there's no recalculation if you move back for rd. 2. you play the whites at all, that's all the strokes you get, regardless of any other tee you play.

i think playing the whites for 7+ caps is the way to go, hence my recommended choices in the tee times announcement. you'll have more fun, score better, AND know exactly what the hole does if you play the same tees both times.

If only there were a pithy little saying I had at hand to let you know how special you are, and how high your potential could be.

Oh, well.

That will have to do.

Need some local knowledge from you city folks...

Am I better off coming up 495 to 270, 495 to 32 to 70, or 301 to 97 to 695 to 70?

Either way I know it's going to be at least a 2 hour trip, I am mainly trying to figure out which route has less of a chance I will get stuck in a parking lot and have it turn into a 3 hour trip.

If you come up 270, jump off onto 355 in Rockville and take that up like you're going to Little Bennett then take Route 75 to Route 80 and hang the left. Removes all the garbage from 270's nightmare and can let you relax a bit heading to the course.

With guesstimating that 495 will be a joke no matter what, I would say 495 to 32 to 70 is your best bet.

ah, the classic FABB move. love it when someone pulls it out right before an event and waves it in everyone's faces.

know how i know? i'm well acquainted with it myself.

including very recently.

I'll be saddled up to the Urbana Waffle House counter at some point tomorrow morning if anyone had the same idea.

I'm not waiting for you, and I'm leaving when I'm done, but I'll let you quietly sit next to me if you behave.

sounds good

I think there is an opening in the afternoon for a father and son pairing

Ha, doubt that will happen. Just a minor vent after finding out the driver I was SUPPOSED to fill in for was there. Initially I was to run in Downtown Hagerstown, then it changed to 'You might not even go on road today' and finally to 'Yeah, you're doing the Shippensburg pickups tonight. The original driver (who I took to the station, long story) showed up and then straight left'.

GTT2 :

The CTP markers are going to be out there for the entire day.

What's the closest CTP at the end of the day?

What's the furthest CTP at the end of the day?

What holes do those correspond to?

I made the Shippensburg Pickups in 12 parsecs.

Ok Han...

They will probably take me 3 hours, if not less.

Hole 7 should be the closest to pin. White tees will have wedges in. Probably inside of 6 feet.

Hole 15 will have the longest. It will be outside of 13 feet.

Kent will win at least ONE CTP.

I know that Whiskey is YUUGELy different course from the Blues to the Blacks. Same from Blues to Whites. The Par 3s, except 7, are very difficult from the tommies. Par 5s aren't that different. There aren't any real long 4s, IIRC.

The whites on some holes on the front can be dominated... I'm looking at you Typhoon.
