I don't know where 3 extra strokes comes from... for me my course handicap at Whiskey:

9 from whites

10 from blues

You missed so much while you were gone. Go back a page or two. :)

I missed way more than a page or two-- I'm not going back.

So MAX is double net but none for gross, correct?

1. -10

2. +4

3. No

4. I think 6 to 10 HCP range takes net. Guys in that range can shoot 78 or 79, and that will be huge, even if paired with a more typical 85.

If someone goes -12 or more from the whites, we will have a discussion with them.

When I say we, I mean the handicap chair of the Hive.

You need to think of it just like a best-ball.

-12 for a best ball when the COURSE RATING is 69 is not too difficult..

It's essentially the same as going -9 in a best ball when the course rating is 72. We do that every year in my club. We might have more teams. It tends to be two people who are playing together and have handicaps over 18, so that's a little different.

But, I don't think -12 is out of the question at all.

9 from whites

10 from blues

Never played the course so maybe the blues would be better or worse.

Find out when I get there.

This is the difference. . .

You're getting 9 strokes from the whites. The COURSE RATING from the whites is 69. So, if you shot your handicap, you'd shoot 78.

You're getting 10 strokes from the blues. The COURSE RATING from the blues is 72. So, if you shot your handicap, you'd shoot 82.

So, if you played an imaginary match against yourself, WhiteTex and BlueTex, WhiteTex would have to give BlueTex 4 shots to make it even, not 1 shot.

Fabb's point. That's what happened for me a RR at BM last year.

Playing reds there was little trouble and I was basically on every green in regulation. Then a made a few putts and didn't 3 putt I don't think.

Much easier game with no trouble

I'm going with gross -1.

Again, if I -- for instance -- played a best ball with myself from the blue tees, I don't think going -1 would be out of the question. Problem might be making it tougher for PQ/Rat if they're playing back. But, Domes is playing up. You got Eagle, Stix, DT, JJ, Goose, Tex all sub-8. . .not leaving out anyone intentionally. . .that's a lot of shots at it.

I'm actually looking forward to this. You better believe that any hole I got a par on the first 18. . .I am GUNNING for that cup the second 18. Bogey's as good as a triple.

The guys in the 11.3 - 16 range will get 17,18, 19, 20 strokes if they move back to the blues. If they throw up a couple of 85's or so then that makes them very tough to beat on the net end of things.

IF. That's a big if.

You don't get to be in the 11.3-16 range by readily being able to go throw up a pair of mid 80s scores from the blues on a reasonably challenging track. That'd be a he!l of a day from somebody in that range.

Not that it can't happen, but it seems highly unlikely.

I think in general, golfers overestimate their ability, so I probably shade a bit too much on the side of underestimating things.

Sounds like I'm better off playing from the blues.

Not necessarily true. You get more strokes playing back because the course is harder from those tees. Like city said earlier, it's not a bonus. It's just equalizing things.

That's what I was thinking. Don't understand all of this higher math so I am just going to show up, golf my ball and try to put up a good number from the whites.

What was the verdict on breakfast quality at the course?

Edit: Fabbs post cleared it up a bit. Less trouble from the whites sounds good to me especially with no max score.

Sounds like I'm better off playing from the blues.

That is not the takeaway from this.

You'll get more strokes, but the course is also -- in theory -- at least 3 strokes easier from the white tees (and in the case of Whiskey, I believe it).

A couple of the carries are totally reduced. The angle is much better on a few holes (6 & 8 & 9 for instance).

72/136 is no joke of a golf course. That 136 is what'll get ya.

I'm all for people playing blues, but it's not an easy course. Eagle made his recommendations. If you don't know the course, or aren't feeling really good about your tee game, I'd go with that.

Your'e going to enjoy the course no matter where you play. It's fun. There's some great elevation change, some great views. 18 is hilarious. The greens are fun.

This. I'm just out for a good time tomorrow, regardless of what tees I'm playing. Plus I'm only playing in the morning, so I'm not competing anyway.

Wow.

I just called the club to ask about breakfast.

"uhhh. . .well, there's a bagel. . .uh. . .eggs. . . cheese?"

"like a breakfast sandwich"

". . . . .uhhh. . . every now and then he'll do a breakfast special. . ."

"pancakes? Home fries? Sausage?"

". . . . there's sausage. . . uhhhhh."

I swear I was talking to Beavis.

I'm probably stopping here. . .

This is a decent place to get a breakfast sandwich on the way to Whiskey. . .

It's probably only 5-10 more minutes to whiskey from there.

It is definitely possible I am underestimating the difference in difficulty between the white tees and blue tees. Again, I have never played there. I was looking at it that the blues aren't overly long at ~6500. A legit 13 has the ability to make a good amount of pars and maybe throw in a birdie while stroking on every hole. Granted there will be bogies and doubles, but the strokes help there as well.

One thing for sure is that it is going to be fun to find out. I am really looking forward to a day off from work and 36 at a great course. Should I bring the fireball Eagle?
