Haha exactly. When I find a shape I like I enjoy having a pair, just with small differences 🙂

My lajosi came in and everything looks great except this one thing. Full custom with smoothed flange but has this faint alignment line. Like it did have a line in the flange but was milled out, just not all the way? I looked back closely through a number of his IG photos and noticed some other heads have it as well. Not all but a handful do. It’s quite distracting as it doesn’t line up with the topline alignment either. Not sure how this was noticed nor fixed prior shipment.

 

does anyone else have something like this on theirs? 
 

also, is this something you would be ok with if ordering a full custom and waiting 10+ weeks?

I’ve reached out to him but have yet to hear back. He was great to work with so definitely don’t want to give an otherwise negative impression. I’m sure he will make whatever right that he sees fit. This is my first full custom so I guess I was wanting to hear from others if something like this would be something they’d “let slide” if it was theirs 🤷‍♂️

Here’s a naked Bayzie I had made years ago. It’s probably just part of the milling program or how the passes are set up. I have no idea how milling works though, so take that comment with a grain of salt.

Yes he said it’s where the milling changes over on the XY axis and can create a fine line. However it is usually unnoticeable after bead blasting but apparently the oil can finish isn’t bead blasted before finishing like the other finishes are. Yours appears oil can as well?

I didn’t ask for oil can, just torched stainless. I suppose he could have quenched it in oil to cool it down though.  It probably has more to do with the darker nature of the finish than the exact finish itself. You can probably see that milling changeover line better on certain finishes. I actually liked it on mine. I only sold it because I got true spiral flat face and it was too firm.

He said all putters have it off the mill but it’s removed during bead blasting. Oil can apparently doesn’t get bead blasted and the gloss of it makes it more pronounced. It’s definitely distracting on mine.  I also address slightly toe up so I have my alignment on topline and then this faint line through the flange that’s not inline with my topline. 
 

im hoping it’s not as noticeable outdoors. If not, I’m not sure what to do.

Unless you have eyes like a hawk it shouldn't be too noticeable outside. 

 

If it still is then maybe have to get it blasted to remove that line, I know you spent money on it already but sometimes that happens unfortunately.

I got a full custom build and I waited in the 4months range, it had an imperfection that I was a little underwhelmed by all things considered, but was more on the club making side than the head milling/finishing side (which I love btw!). It's out of sight when putting so it's not a big deal and I could always fix it myself if I really wanted.

What you got going on, I would not be ok with...especially given it doesn't align with the actual alignment notch. I reckon that's kind of a big deal since it might actually affect your performance. Then it would detract from your love of it, which negates the whole purpose of getting a fully custom build and having a one of a kind putter. I'm sure Kari will work with you to get it resolved 🙂

Kari offered to ship the head back and fix it but I just decided to do it myself 😬. Removed the finish and fine grit sanded the flange until the line disappeared and then light sanded the rest of the head. Will keep it raw and let it patina.

Curious what the best way to go about contacting for a custom order would be.  I’ve been kind of intrigued by a putter with a copper insert and flow neck.  His putters look amazing and since it’s now winter I have plenty of time to wait.  Is it best to send a message on his site or Instagram? Some other way?   Thanks!

I emailed him via his website and also informed him as such via his IG.  It helps if you know what you want and Kari will chime in with what he feels shouldn't be done or can be better.  At least, that is my interaction with him. His comm is ok.  Definitely much better than some I have experienced.

 

Hope to get mine in Jan.
