This will probably delay your new driver by a few more days...

But I got my sorry for being a month late with no notifications gift package today. Dozen balls, nice glove, pretty cool. But the final piece is a white hat, and literally just that. There's a Callaway logo on the back, but the entire front is completely blank. Complete WTF moment opening that up.

Like a NFL ref hat but with a logo on the back?

Literally a blank white hat, white brim, no stitching on the front or sides. The back of the hat has the Callaway name and the chevron logo, with the same logo on the adjustment strap. It's probably something set aside or reserved for further stitching on the front of a logo, perhaps tour or other sponsor logos, but to give it to the general public is somewhat puzzling. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely happy and grateful to be getting anything out of the delay on my driver, but this was very confusing to see.

Maybe you could put a pic of this guy on the hat...you know...like the milk carton for golfers? If found please return...

You should carry a flag around during your rounds and just throw it after people hit.

Maybe think about changing your user name to "the official"

I think there is a lot of potential with the all white hat.

Sunday's forecast looks decent with temps reaching the low 50's. Is this snow going to melt? If so, how wet is it going to be?

There's minimal snow on the ground out west Sir.

I can echo that statement for the northwest as well. Open areas especially will be gone quick if not already. How wet could be another story. You can kind of see the difference in this photo, as this is the west side of the building, you get some snow where the building and then a tree blocks some possible sun. To the left of it, all grass.

Speaking of Village Links, are they smoking dope? $62 for what could only be considered marginal playing conditions?

Heritage Bluffs is open this weekend. $27 is fine by me. There's no snow left down there. Tornado debris? Sure. But no snow.

I played 36 at Heritage Bluffs today. I prefer walking two different courses on Saturdays but wanted to get back for the NCAA Tournament. I could've done without all the Julia Louis-Dreyfuss crowd shots but...whatever. Celebrity fans are always lame (see: Cusack, John) but at least her kid plays for the team. But I digress. I'd never played Heritage Bluffs before. I got out to Cinder Ridge last year but Bluffs had a stupid weekend cart policy so I played elsewhere for round two. It wasn't exactly ideal conditions but I like the track. Pros: Good variety on 3s, 4s, and 5s, I hit every club in my bag, the greens are well-protected with water and bunkers, and it's got bits and pieces of other Dick Nugent tricks that I like without the stupid names for holes. Cons: It could probably be re-routed to be more walker-friendly and I can see back-ups happening a lot, since missing the fairway means rolling into the woods on a bunch of holes. The greens were kind of slow, but fast greens would probably slow down the pace even more during the season. Also, the bunkers had a ton of sand in them but I'm guessing that's an early-season thing and they won't be trucking in more sand as the season progresses (insert requisite Chicago-area thread joke about donating sand to Harborside and Dubs here). $42 for 36 holes is a solid spring deal that I hope lasts for a while. Scores were not great by any means: 81 and 77. Tough day to score with low 40s weather and a cold win in my face for most of the round. I'll be back though.

Played Springbrook today. They continue to take out hundreds of trees and change the dynamics of the course. It's spacious, very much like a big ball park and spraying the ball is OK. The sight lines are very different.

I get the goal but don't think I'll play there other than for the location value and convenience.

The first time I played, and walked, Heritage Bluffs I swore it was laid out by a drunk sailor. With the lack of signage and criss-crossing paths, I got lost several times. 'Definitely not an easy walk.

It's nice and flat but the layout is really odd. It doesn't have to be so spread out, since there are tee boxes right next to a bunch of greens. Of course, those tee boxes are for holes that aren't played until much later in the round because, yeah, um...I got nothing. Drunk sailor sounds about right. I'll say this, though: I was worried it would be wet with balls plugging quite often but there wasn't a single wet spot on the course. The maintenance there is solid and it drains well.

I had a pleasant morning walking 18 at Meadows GC in Blue Island. The course was a bit squishy, but playable. The greens were slow, as to be expected. For $18, it was the perfect location for an early season round. There was zero wind when I teed off, which was a good thing given the temperatures in the upper 30's. I think it was 43 degrees when I finished, but the sun and lack of wind made it feel much warmer. There was a single player 3 or 4 holes in front of me, but I never came close to catching him. I think the group behind me was 4 holes back, so I basically had the course to myself. There's just something about a nice early morning round where you play at your own pace without a care in the world.

I had a great round shooting even par. I was two under with 3 to play, but two poor tee shots more or less spoiled my chance of breaking par. Still, no complaints. 9/13 fairways, 13 GIRs, and 31 putts. I put 3 new Callaway MD3 wedges into play for the first time, and they were excellent. I went with the W grind on the 56 and 60 for a bit more forgiveness in the soft conditions, and they worked perfectly. 'Never felt one dig at any time. They're heavier than my old Cleveland RTX's, which were too light for my liking. The MD3's felt stable through the shots.
