Anyone in the midst of taking lessons around here? If so, where at? What are you working on?

 

Would love to, but 2 problems, lack of practice, and lack of money make lessons a waste of time and not affordable for me. That said, I do hope to get to the range more this year, and actually video my swing, which is something I haven't really done before. To see how bad I look, and understand what I'm doing (as they say, feel ain't real), possibly might be able to change some things myself. Hoping for positive things in the summer.

I just bought a sweet flexible tripod for my cell phone I can hang off my bag or just stand on the ground behind me to video my swing which will help with what I'm working on. It's always so hard to know if you can't see/feel it and reinforce it. Fits pretty much any phone they say.

I use a device called Cam Caddy which hooks onto alignment sticks that works pretty well

I can't complain too much since I've already played 15 rounds in 2017 but hopefully whatever snow we get that accumulates will be gone by next week. The silver lining in this is the fact that courses that actually care about maintenance won't be allowing carts out for a while. Hopefully this also keeps Prairie Landing at $40 on weekends for the time being.

We had a fairly dry winter. I have to imagine that this is going to affect the course conditions at some point. A little added precipitation is probably a good thing. Of course, it would be better if it fell on a weekday, or better yet, overnight.

This is normal, nothing to complain about with this winter. If it's anything like previous forecasts we'll get a dusting and zero accumulation. Even if there is accumulation it won't be much and should melt off quickly.

I may not be able to swing, but I ordered a new Ping Hoofer bag today. Replacing the 15+ yr old Ping L8 I have been using for the past year after I decided my Sun Mountain 4 five was a bad purchase.

At least if it snows I can burn the last of the gas out of the snow blower. I filled it nearly full at the start of winter and haven't touched it since.

 

I was able to hit some balls at the dome and started lessons up again. First time since having kids, well not me having kids, but adding kids to the family. I'm excited about the lessons. I'm not looking for a swing overhaul, but just a few tweaks to get a little more consistent and take some of the strain off my lower back.

The weather stinks but it's supposed to be in the mid-30s and sunny on Sunday. That's playable for me. I booked a time at HOE. I just hope I'll be able to get a tee in the ground.

I got to HOE at 9:50 but they said they wouldn't let golfers out until at least 12:00. No thanks guys. The Selection Show awaits. I headed over to St. Andrews instead, and the course was in great shape. The greens were smooth, the tee boxes were level, and the fairways were in much better shape than the ones at GDN. Also, unlike pretty much every other course in the area, they actually had the rakes in the bunkers. Weather-wise, it was great conditions for a winter round. The sun was out and there wasn't any wind, which made the course quite playable. I'll take a 77 but I'm annoyed I missed a 3 foot birdie putt on 8. The stupid snow should make things unplayable for the next week so I'm glad I got in one more round.

Generally I do better with mid-higher bounce, anywhere from 8-14 in my 58 in the past. I find that most of the year course conditions are pretty soft so low bounce options dig a ton for me. Everybody's different though.

I played RTX 2's last season, but decided to give the Mack Daddy 3's a whirl this year. I picked up a 52/10, 56/12, and 60/11. I agree with VNutz, more bounce is better in our soft conditions. Given that the bunkers around here are rarely fluffy, a high bounce wedge is not really a necessity.

Always wet rarely dry in Midwest- Mid to high bounce only unless you literally take no divot whatsoever.

I got away with 7 degrees of bounce in my 58 for sand shots, chips, and approaches inside 60 yards but I wouldn't go much lower than that. Most Chicago area courses are bent grass so the ball sits up okay but it's nothing like Kentucky blue grass or Bermuda grass. However, in the winter when the courses harden up it's nice to have a backup high loft (58 or 60) low bounce (around 4) wedge for frozen conditions.

I've always been told to use the higher bounce also. We may think the grounds are baking out and drying but in reality its nothing compared to all year conditions in some desert areas.

I live in Naperhell and my biz is in Tinley. Next to no snow in Naperhell and we're getting nailed by the lake effect snow in TP. Probably 5 inches on the ground already.
