Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

DavePelz4

Recommended Posts

Shepherds Crook today. A friend had never played it so I joined in. First 4 holes were in perfect temp and a strong breeze. The rest the wind turned and temp dropped like 30 degrees.

Course played great. I am working on some things so I wish I could say I did too. Couple pars and that was the highlight.

Season kicks off in a week. Conditions probably won't change much but it's nice to know there is going to be more open courses.

Still really liking the bag. I got a new 9 wood to play with to take the spot of my 4 hyb. Long and high. I'll keep messing with it as the season goes on but it's something new to hit from 190-200 out.

Played at Vaaler on Wednesday and Wolfdancer on Thursday. #9 at vaaler was very cool, always tough to judge those short, downhill par 3s. Then got salt lick on the way back to Austin so the course had that going for it.

Wolf was on the players club level. Views were amazing even before getting out of the car while driving through forests to the pro shop. Range was super cool, just wish the yardages were marked. Beautiful sloping fairways and multi tiered greens. Used every club in my bag - exceptional time. This is a must play at $75 on teeoff.com and very contrasting to what we would get in chicago area

Anyone grab this deal for Bowes Creek? I did it last year and it was fantastic. Played 45 holes and then used the gift card for dinner for my wife and I a few weeks later. Bacon wrapped meatloaf is amazing.

$99 for Golf Pass, Gift Card, and Wilson Zip Balls at Bowes Creek Country Club ($159 Value)

Yeah I bought mine with the discount as well and my credit card gives 10% back on groupon purchases which helped a little more. Looking forward to getting back out there this year.

I'm getting cabin fever. I was all set to head out this morning, rain or not. I got dressed, and called Glencoe. They said there was standing water pretty much everywhere, and several greens were saturated. I don't mind playing in the rain, but I'll take a pass on sloppy. I have to imagine that most places are going to be rather saturated after two days of steady rain.

Oh well. I guess I'll sit inside and watch the final round of the Ryder Cup that I have on my DVR.

Did you get out on Friday?

My back yard has pools all over.

For anyone:

Any thoughts on getting a season pass for a local muni? Trying to decide if I do it or not. Close to home, kid friendly, so so practice area. I work full time so it would be limited to after work/dinner rounds and weekend when not coaching baseball, doing yard work, family activities. I think I would still play other courses in the area though but I really like the convenience.

Maybe when my 15 mo daughter is older, but for now content to go to white deer run or pine meadow if I want to practice close to home

For work I can do my prospect golf course or des Plaines golf center

I may consider a Saturday morning permanent tee time in the future

I get a season pass for my local Muni but I also play in a Monday night league there so it really makes a lot of sense for me.

I use pine meadow during the week for practice since it's close to the office and will probably go out to white deer run a few times during the summer for my lessons.

Permanent tee times won't work for me until the kids are in college. So like 14 years.

Got my 3rd round in at Riviera Maya GC. Great course, but geez, it's tight as fudge. Whoever rated the course at 72.x/128 from the blues (6600 yards), should have their rating privileges revoked. If your tee ball doesn't land in the middle 70% of the fairway, good luck. Every single fairway slopes towards the jungle. Oh, and don't forget to carry the ball ONTO the green - lots of elevated greens with false fronts and huge undulations. A seemingly good shot that's a foot too short will most likely roll back 10-20 yards. Still a great time - managed to go out first (with couple Canucks from Nova Scotia) and always got it in around 3 hours, just in time to meet the family for breakfast.

False fronts remind me of Laura L. in 8th grade. Learned she was "Kleenex enhanced."

The courses in the Chicago area tend to have a much more generous rating/slope combo than in most other places. Sounds like Riviera needs to get the same USGA official who recently re-rated Glencoe 72.3/133.

Well, that's funny G, ran into Laura L. and she said the same thing about you. Doh!

Playing Seven Bridges Saturday. Great rates compared to others in area...$50 with cart! Wanted to play Cantigny but not willing to pay $75 for post winter conditions.

Cantigny is charging $75 already? Yikes!

For work I can do my prospect golf course or des Plaines golf center

If you ever want to catch a round after work at Mt Prospect on a Wed/Thur/Fri, hit me up. I'm about 10-15 minutes from the course, and off those days, so always looking to golf :)

Are you generally a sweeper, or a digger? The W grind is intended for steeper swings. I used to be a sweeper, but it seems I've gotten a bit steeper over the past few years. It got to the point were I was a bit hesitant to use my low/mid bounce 60 in wet conditions. These are my first wide sole wedges.

I used to be a bit steeper and I feel that I come in a bit shallower now. When I went to Mt Prospect it wasn't as bad. Might take some getting used to. If I don't get along with it, I am sure I will change back either to my older Vokey 54° or look at getting another (likely S grind) 54° MD3.

I like Bittersweet despite all the target golf on the course. It involves a lot of three wood off the tee, especially on the front nine, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's a bit overpriced though. I can't see dropping $52 to play there on weekends. The key is to play it on weekdays before 8:00 am, when it's $25.

Sportsman's CC at 8:30 am on Saturday. I'm sure it'll be cold and wet. There are plenty of openings at that time if anyone want to join.

I'll probably be out at Glencoe on Sunday morning. 'Should be a bit nicer.

The first round needs to be before 8:00. We have the 7:39 and hopefully the soggy conditions keep people away. Blackstone always gets play but it tends to move alright. The key is to avoid prime time tee times (9:00-11:00) because, with all due respect to seniors, they're never in a hurry at Marengo Ridge.
