side saddle putters - what putter are you using?

I also removed two weights from that putter. In true 'overthinkit' mode, I decided to take two off the back...I thought/think it may help stabilize/less wobble leaving the most weight on the front During the Backswing....let's see what Tizzle says!

I just switched mine out, and I'll try it with the back corner weights removed tomorrow. Putting on the carpet just now, it seemed like MAYBE the putter was a bit less stable on the backswing than it was with the front corner weights removed, but that could also be my imagination. FWIW, I just sent an email to Bobby Grace asking him if it mattered from a performance standpoint; if he responds, I'll let you know.

I've emailed Bobby Grace (and talked to him on the phone a few times). Trying to get him to make me a F18 (smaller head) with the asskicker at 80* for side saddling but he won't because he says the weight can't get up high enough for performance. Which stinks because if I had to hate on one thing for the F22, is that its big.

Got two replies from Bobby Grace regarding which set of corner weights to remove. This was his first reply:

"Lightening up the putter does lower the MOI and can help with a tighter grouping on putts outside 25 feet." (I'm not sure I understand how those two things go together, so if anybody else does, please weigh in.)

So in a second email, I re-asked the question, "Does it matter at all whether you remove the weights from the front corners or the back corners?"

His reply: "Yes remove the front weight to replace with lighter. Keep the heavy in the rear."

So J_Tizzle was right, and I've already switched my F22 back to front weights out, rear weights in. FWIW, this lightens the F22 by about 60 grams, screws included. BG sells two 13g weights, but it's pricey; I think I'll go with empty slots.

Also, as an indicator of how light the GP putter really is, the F22 with two weights removed is still 70g heavier than my GP even though my GP is 4" longer than the F22. That is LIGHT!

Now you got me interested, so I weighed them, my F22 comes in at 772, while my GP (loaded with lead tape) came in at 740. I'm going to fiddle with some tungsten tape and get the weight up there a bit closer. The F22 is either perfect or still slightly heavy, so I might just remove the front middle one. Because why not.

Could you post a photo of the weighted GP putter, would love to see it? Also what was the GP weight before the tape, how much tape did you put on?

I just found some lead tape in an old bag and slapped it on the bottom until I ran out, nothing pretty about it at all.

I think it added about 100 grams. Not sure as I have altered and added weight to others. I try to get them near the 500 gm head weight as I find that best for me on lag putts.

Adding sand down the shaft is an old trick and makes for easy experimentation. With a short putter filling the shaft might add about 100g. (In 1986 I bought a small bag of aquarium sand because it's clean. I still have most of it left.)

Remind me.....how heavy is the F22 head with all the weights in? 525g?

I'm not sure what the head weight alone is; mine is 858g at 44" with the weights, 796 without the weights. For comparison purposes, it's about 20g lighter with the weights in than the JuanPutt at the same length, about 100g heavier than my Directed Force at the same length, and about 140g heavier than my GP at 48".

This is the other Bobby Grace sidesaddle model that has me a bit intrigued: Bobby Grace PuttersBobby says he cam mill it at whatever weight I want.

It seems like an ideal design for holding at 90 degrees.

Well, hell...

I just ordered the BG Night and Day. I'm using all of the gas and restaurant money, plus what's left of my stimulus money, to finance the purchase. I also may not be completely forthcoming with my wife as to how many putters are in the hall closet. She doesn't really want to know anyway; our "don't ask, don't tell" policy for golf equipment has worked well for a long, long time. If I can intercept the package when it arrives, she'll never know...

The irony of this, of course, is that I could not possibly have putted better this past weekend with my F22; under 30 putts both days, and yesterday I don't think I missed a single putt inside 10 feet.

Do you hold your putter at 90*?

I’d be interested in knowing if this could effectively be held vertically. It seems a bit wide and I’m not sure if it hasn’t that “tri-sole” grind.

Bobby has made that sole so that you can hold it at almost 90* with little or no loss of effective sweet spot. The only thing I've had to be careful about is lining the putt up from behind in a soled position, and then moving it to a more upright position as I move into position; that moves the ball to the inside of the center line toward the heel. As long as I am careful to hold the putter at the same angle that it'll be at when I am actually putting, it's no problem, and it's a remarkably stable, solid feel.

I have an old Bobby Grace heavyweight champion putter that would be great for those who want to hold it at 90 degrees. It can literally stand up on its own. Not sure it would be legal if manufactured today.

Of course, I sell the old putter on ebay for $150.....

I buy the new one for $500+. :)

Out of curiosity, what did you guys putt with all those years before you started making your own putters?

Yo Bluedot, cheers for the question! My Dad used a variety of conventional models from age 10-33, as back then no one manufactured side saddle putters, his longest stint being with a Ping 69BC. Then in 1996 he had a side saddle specific putter made for him to use during the Dave Pelz World Putting Championship, which he finished 7th at. This model was our inspiration for The BB10 that we currently sell as it had the same T shaped design but was comprised solely of brass, pinned together and had no milling on the face. This was the putter I used from age 10 up until we started making prototypes about 2 years ago for BPCO. How long have you been face-on and what putters have you used and or currently use?
