What are the plans for the golf course when the Olympics are over? Will it be plowed over and used for other purposes?

It will stay open and be the only public course in Brazil. I think there's only four courses in the entire country which is a little mind boggoling...

There another public course outside of Rio, they did a special on it on NBC Golf yesterday. They have great Junior Program run by the R&A.

There are over 75 courses in Brazil.

Is it only 4 public courses in the entire country then? I could have sworn I heard/saw that number on TV.

1) LOL at the Kuchar thing. Shows that this thing really is at the NedBank level.

2) I am pretty sure that the billionaire developer is going to plow the course under and then build condo/lux housing.

I also realize it was blown way out of proportion. This proves my point actually, everyone freaked out, using Zika as an excuse like its the second coming of the plague and there's not even close to those numbers. Easy scapegoat.

Per the article:

"Par for the course will be set at 71 with the combined length for the men's competition topping out around 7,132 yards and 6,500 for the women's competition."

That seems like a very strange yardage. VERY short for the men and pretty darn long for the ladies. I have to think the actual yardages played will be significantly different. 7,132 and 6,200 would seem more likely. Or 7400 and 6500.

I think the hope that being an Olympic sport again will grow the game is going to be a huge let down.

Omg, golfers always so cynical and downtrodden?

Where is the joie de vivre?

Take some metamucil

Do some #ß@*$+ thing.

I just keep hearing folks on golf channel and Martin Hall talking about how the Olympics area going to surely grow the game and I dont think it will. Maybe in other parts of the world it might, but I kinda agree with Rory and dont think the Olympics in general are relevant enough (especially to Americans) at the moment to make that big of an impact.

I dont think golf should even be an Olympic sport anyway.

Olympic golf gives players from around the world an opportunity to play an event that includes the best players in the world... something they would never have the opportunity to do. In that respect, yes, it can have a huge impact on the sport. Will it makes kids that don't even have proper nutrition and education in 3rd world countries suddenly take up golf... no.

Well that's point of it, there's no real aim to grow the game in America with it since you already have three majors there and more golfers than most of the rest of the world combined.

It's for countries with little to no golfing heritage where they hope if say a player from Bangladesh does well and somehow sneaks a bronze medal then all of a sudden golf is on the radar in that country. Realistically it's not going to turn that sort of country into a golfing powerhouse or even get that many people playing but little by little long-term you might look back and see 'oh that was a pivotal moment for golf in that country.

I was on a 4-hour public bus trip outside of Rio several years ago (and judging by the perception of Brazil here, I should be dead right?).

Anyways, I passed a nice little goat track that had several foursomes walking the course. Granted it was the first course I saw in several trips, but it was there.

I remember thinking how strange it was to see a course without any carts and everyone walking. Looked nice, wanted to play.

Will it play par 72 for the ladies? If so the yardages would make more sense.
