How to dress...

Recommended Posts

I myself do not connect wearing jeans with the assumption that one is a redneck. Yes Cowboys wear Jeans and they are Athletic but they ride horses so different angle. I have always been taught from when I started golf that you do not wear Jeans to the golf course. Even though its accepted by more places, does not mean you should. I connect to the guy who wears Basketball shorts every day even though he is not even playing basketball. Yes basketball shorts are comfortable. But does that mean he should. Many of the courses I play at around my area do not allow it. And no these are not private country clubs. Only time I really see Jeans on a course is at my local muni. Which for some reason also allows for slow play. Hmmmmm..... To each their own. Wear what you want.

Exactly.

Reminds me of the Hank Williams song: "If you mind your business, then you won't be mindin' mine."

Now I don't wear loud colors like this anymore, but I wore this ensemble to a St Patricks day tournament once. It's terrible but in the spirit of the day. I tend to dress in darker blues and grays etc these days, white stuff when it's crazy hot. Nothing neon anymore, but that's juts my choice. I think rock what you want and go with it. Old School Arnie is my go to icon when it comes to on course fashion.

If you want to wear jeans playing golf, go for it. I don't see how I could possibly enjoy a round of golf while wearing jeans. Especially on a warmer day.

Belts.......Forbidden.

Any colour, any width and especially, especially, definitely especially not coloured ones with the manufacturer buckle. Minging.

Buy trousers that fit.

They better be tailored with the belt loops removed.

Honestly lately I just wear a fitted golf polo untucked, some workout/basketball style shorts, golf shoes and a flat bill Puma hat. It's comfortable and perfectly acceptable at the local munis. If I am going somewhere nicer I will tuck my shirt in and wear some real golf shorts or pants with a belt. Just practicing around on a $20 a round course I don't really feel a need to wear anything but what is comfortable. The workout shorts with an untucked golf shirt actually looks good if you have an athletic build and the shirt is fitted and not very long.

I think i have a little bit of everything in my golf wardrobe. I like to wear "loud" shorts and pants, i typically keep my shirts solid colored to accent.

I get comments about my pants occasionally but its to be expected at the golf course i play at. Theres a lot of older guys that are pretty reserved.

I think dressing up for golf is half the fun. So eff whoever doesnt like what you wear

Always found the Asics a little heavy - really comfortable though

I play with guys that wear jeans all the time on the golf course. I do not, that would be the most uncomfortable thing to wear for golf, for me.

I would much rather wear slacks that are breathable as I sweat like a whore in church. I don't need a pair of pants to weigh 30 pounds at the end of the round

I wear shorts because it gets hotter than hades where i live in florida, but i would wear slacks if it wasn't so hot.

When I first started playing golf I dressed in basIc clothes black navy blue tan, which was ok for me but as I got better I started watching golf (never did much before I got where I was shooting in the 90s). I'm in between a 9-11 hcp now.putting kills my score. I always wore flat bill hats before rickie did.even before golf.puma seemed to be a fitting company for me to gravitate to.I was playing all clevelands at the time I got into puma.I'm a brand whore.I don't like to mix and match.watching rickie made me want to get better, and the more I watched him the more it reminded me of how I played since I started golfing. 95% of what I own is cobra/puma for golf.I shoot mid to low 80s a few 70s rounds and I love going out in bright colors.it never helped that I'm about the same size and build as ricky and wearing flat hats and low hair on the course people called me rickie even before the puma gear.so I just embraced it. Everytime I go out i get rickie comments. Most guys, probably younger think I'm a fan boy or poser but I feel I can back it up with my game.I have people watch me hit range balls over the net at my driving range.i love the flash, golfing is my way of standing out.

How do you guys go about dressing without someone labeling you as a Rory poser or calling you Ricky? Or does it not bother you?

I want to buy a new golf wardrobe but don't know I should go about it?

Just buy what you like. Find stuff that you are comfortable in (fit is to your liking, you like the way it feels, etc), and stuff that you like how it looks on you. If that happens to be what Rickie and Rory wear, fine. If someone comments on it, just tell them that you like your clothing and they can think what they want. All that matters is that you like it and feel good about it.

If you are worried about getting bugged by others, just dress as plain as you can.

Don't be like Rickie, Rory, Spieth, or wear Horschel's pants... be you and choose colors that look good on you.

Pros wear bright colors now, so go more conservative. Wearing Nike, Puma, Adidas, Travis Mathew is fine, just don't overdo it. Wear a shirt you like with solid pants or shorts. With shorts, go white ankle socks that don't show. Don't go wild on the belt.

I think the thing with Billy Ho is that RLX knows if they give hime crazy stuff to wear, he won't balk. Also, he is a good enough player that he will "get air time" with them on, even if its just to put the crazy pants on TV...

When he is off the course, he is actually quite conservative clothing wise.

I like the stuff he has, but just can't wear it.

A: i am not as trim as he is

B: I am a little too self conscious

I have a pair of Bright Orange Pants that are incredible... But I haven't worn them, and they are 3 years old now. I have lost so much weight I will have to have them altered in order to do so. But I have put them on 3 times to wear them, only to take them off... i just can't do it.

I might wear them if the Gators win the SEC or something like that. Or maybe, better yet if the baseball team can get it done in Omaha....

Why. But whatever you like. And if it's not age appropriate. Wear it and pretend you did it because it's too young for you.

Me, I'm kinda of a skinny fat guy. I was 240. I'm now 210 and working to 190. I would love to find a pair of really nice looking jogger style pants that don't look like rickies. His ride too low on the hips. But I like the idea of not dragging my cuffs through the dew. I like to play in pants. I guess I could go all 1991 and tight roll mine.
