New Ping Clubs On The Horizon?

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I've been trying to track down some more info on the fate of the current Ping i5 and G5 lines but the company tends to be fairly tight lipped.

I had the chance to speak with a few associates that work at clubs with large Ping accounts and they both mentioned they've been told to expect new equipment in the fall. Ping is one of the last companies that run on 2 year product life cycles. This would make the current i5 irons and G5 woods and irons up for renewal in the fall. The company has had some good success with the "i" and "G" lines so I'd expect to see more of the same.

Speaking of new clubs... the Edwin Watts website has pictures of the new Solus Series 7.1 wedges. Looks like the company is going to go with more of a blade this time but some of the other technologies look like they've stuck around. If you follow the "Tour" section on the Solus Golf website you've probably read about the 7.1 already. I've got a Solus wedge in the bag right now and love it. These are legit... despite their "infomercial" beginnings... and are worth a look!

We'll keep you updated as we got more info on both fronts. Thanks for the emails and we'll talk to you later!

Being from down under, and haveing used the S58's and sold them early this year and changing too the S58's i can now say that ive put the CCI's in the cupboard and have a new set of S58's , with all the hyope of new gear all of the time, i think alot of ppl put too much emphasis on " new gear " hoping its gonna improve their game, but in reality if it aint broke dont change it ? , IMHO the S58 is a classic club to hit, u can work it and play it how you want, some say forged ? yeah ive had them and still do, but ? the s58's do play forge like in play ! im glad ive gone back and im settled, would i get the new ones ? lol maybe maybe not, but i like the s58's their well designed and are fab IMHO........ from this end of the world im always looking at new hear and PING grabs my mind everytime !

last thought ? just remember that companies have too keep bringing out new stuff too keep themselves in business and technology, but for us players it hurts the hipocket but raises their share price, so keep that in mind , ask yourself are they really going to burn strokes off my round ? maybe ? maybe not ! but in the end its you and the course on the day !

Enjoy your weekend !

Cheers All just my .02 worth

CLAUS: Yeahh...could be funny if Ping released an iron that was kind of a hybrid between the S58's and the i5's - slightly larger headsize compared to S58, no ferrule, smaller offset and clubhead size than i5 - this would be a winner, both on the tour and with all the low cap Ping fans. Though I must say, I like the S58 very much....but I guess some Ping fans need an iron, which looks more like the old classic heads....no ferrule, bizarre headshape etc.

A hybrid between the s58 and i5 would be great, but I would prefer it, if it has a hosel and the looks of the s58 but with a deeper cavity and the offset of the i5 and the clubhead size in between those two. That would be my dream iron. Cannot decide, whether my dream iron is the s58 or x20 Tour at the moment, but if the s58/i5 hybrid will be as I described, it will be my new dream iron.

Best wishes,

Nille

I read the first half of the thread thinking that the ideal new club you guys were describing sounded just like my old I3+ Blades-- then three others mentioned the same thing.

I would disagree that Ping doesn't change things for the sake of marketing-- that is precisely what they do. Letting the i3s go was cosmetic.

I went through the tour fitting dept there last month-- terrific bunch of guys.

I went ahead and ordered i5's 4-pw and iwedges 50, 54 adn 58. I have an Adams Idea Pro hybrid for my 3i. Is the Rapture hybrid any better.

If you go on the Ping website and look at what's in their tour staff's bags, almost every player has a Rapture driver and an 18* Rapture hybrid. There's a couple of G5 drivers hanging on, but I was surprised at just how many 18* Rapture's were in play. 3-woods, irons and wedges are all over the map.

I just ordered a set of i5s too knowing that this was likely their last year before new product would be released. I had decided I really wanted new irons this year and really liked the i5s. I didn't want to wait till this fall/next spring and effectively not have new clubs this year. And I don't change clubs often. Lots of folks still play the eye2s and i3s in various iterations. Pings wear well and hold their value. And who's to say I'd like the replacement any better.

It doesn't matter if new stuff comes out...You can still order the Patent Pending Ping irons if you really wanted them...Ping still makes all of their previous models.
