There is a short par 4 on my home course where the tee boxes aim you purposely into the trees on the right. You also really need to be in the left side of the fairway to have a clear shot at the green. The way the tee box is set up you need to be aiming about 10:00 to hit it down the middle and even further left to get in the left side of the fairway. It is really un-natural feeling and most people hit in in the right rough or in the trees. If the tee boxes lined you up square to the fairway it would be a much easier hole.

I also tamed one of my nemesis holes yesterday. It's a tight 366 yard par 4 with tall trees on right bordering the OB fence, and a hazard running down the length of the left side. I play a draw, and the large trees overhang the right side of the fairway, so it's not uncommon to clip a branch 100 yards out from the tee box. If I start the ball too far left, I'll often wind up in the left hazard. On Sundays, the pin is often tucked in the back left near the hazard, a real sucker pin.

Β

I had a decent tail wind yesterday, so I dialed back my swing, and made solid contact. I nearly clipped a tree branch, but got through safely, and wound up on the right side of the fairway with 140 to the pin. I pulled out a PW, thinking I would fire to the middle of the green, and walk away with a easy par. Of course I pulled my approach shot, and it had the flag painted. The ball landed about 10 yards on the green, and released towards the hole. When I walked up the ball was 3 inches from the cup. You get greedy and wonder why it didn't go in, but I'll take the kick in birdie any day on this hole.

Hole 11 at Westridge in Mckinney Texas. Par 5 with tee shot over water, Creek around 280 and water all the way from there to the green with fairway sloping down to it. I average over one lost ball no matter how I play it. Best score is a bogey, but never in league play.

Β

Ha i know this hole. Don't hit driver off the tee man. IT's a dogleg right with a slanted fairway and water down the right. The shot calls for a cut but if you hit a cut it'll just roll into the water. Not worth hitting driver there. I hit 4/5 iron every time off the tee. Hit a 6/7 iron over the creek towards the bunkers on the left and let the fairway bring it back. Then try to make birdie with a wedge.

Yes, and it's got to be the stupidest situation ever. The hole is as straight away as it gets, the scorecard says 430 yards, no hazards (a ditch in front of the tee and a few greenside bunkers long, but not realistically in play), but....

Β

For some reason unbeknownst to me, the hole "looks like" it requires a little fade off the tee. It never fails, I hit a straight shot into the left rough that doesn't cut, or a big push into the right rough...either one seems to find me behind a tree. I should start hitting 2-iron off the tee just to get into the fairway and hit the 5 iron to the green and be happy, but noooooooooo I step up every time and try to hit that little cut driver down there so I can wedge it in.

Β

Idiot.

Finally got a par on the nemesis hole. lol. I then proceeded to shoot a record high 92. Urghhh, the golf illuminati are laughing at me. My playing partners were worried until I started blowing the round out my rear on the back nine. Love this game, though.

I felt really good about that shot....
Until I hit it.

Our 13th. Old first. Sold some land where the old tee was. Play from a different tee the hole was never designed for. I keep overlooking the draw on my fairway tee shot. When I don't I still dump the approach in either green side bunker. Chipped in last week for birdie though!

4 iron- 7 iron- wedge. Always aim right off the tee, waaaaay left on the second and then keep it left on the approach. That said, according to Golfshot, I average 6.2 on that hole.

Β

I think 18 is a killer at Westridge. I am forced to hit a four iron and then that stupid tree makes for a 200+ yard approach shot that you have to fade. Thanks. I hate going to 18 needing a par to break 80.

#4 at my home course

Β

Long Par 5 that has a severe dogleg left, and is tree lined all the way, can't cut the corner. Then you need to lay up to a pond in front of the green.

Β

The green is elevated 30 feet above the pond, and if you hit short on the third shot, it's wet every time. Green is wide but not deep at all sloping off the front and back.

Β

Can't say it 'has my number', but it's a hole I have birdied maybe 2-3 times out of playing it several hundreds of times. Usually a par, or on bad days bogey. Not great stats for a par 5.

Β

Hate it.

Any hole tightly lined with houses or a road playing to my right. Can result in either a high slice (followed by an awkward silence) or hittin' it fat.

Β

On the other hand, I seemed to have conquered water holes (other than occasional misalignment) so I got that going for me.

I can see how that is a hard hole for a high handicapper. it is pretty straightforward if you just play it to get on the green in 3 though

Yes! I play at Pebble Beach every Thursday, and the 18th hole has my number. I haven't made an eagle on that hole in 50 attempts. Which is weird because I usually only have about 160 into the green, unless it's downwind and I can finesse a wedge to the green. Oh well, I guess 50 birdies on that hole isn't bad. But, still, I expect my par 5 scoring to be less than 4.0.

Have topped the ball off this particular tee the last 3 rounds ive played into the OOB infront of the tee. I cant remember the last time ive topped one off the tee apart from these. Tomorrow is first round of club champs qualifying so im looking forward to putting the tee in the ground on that particular one...

Β

Smoked one in the first round of qualifying then topped it off the tee again in the second round this weekend!

Β

Seriously considering just hitting a wedge off it. FML

Hole 17 at Marshall Canyon in La Verne, CA. Really tight off the tee, then opens up later. It is a short par 5 (never really checked, but always assumed it was a par 4). Stopped using mydriver off the tee, as the trees would always snag me up. Playing today, though, i hit a 4 iron off the tee, 6 iron from the fairway, and hit a full PW shot on approach. The PW shot hit the pin and dropped for my first eagle ever!

Β

I guess i finally conquered the hole that had my number!

14th hole at my old home course, par 4 415 yard dogleg left. Green is about 40 ft below tee box and if you can hit a baby draw about 270+ it will catch a downslope and you'll have less than 100 yards in. Pretty open fairway but trees line the left side with OB past them not allowing for much of a cut without going into the trees on the right side, and I swear I cannot hit this fairway to save my life. 4/5 times I would play this hole I hit a big slice and end up 200+ yards out in the trees. On top of the drive not fitting my eye, the green has OB left and long usually forcing a defensive second shot and figuring out how to get up and down from 100 yards to save par or bogey.

Ugh. My nemesis hole bit me back yesterday. I had a great round of even par going until the 16th hole, with 3 birdies and 3 scrambles up to that point. Of course, I duck hook my tee shot on 16 into the pond, and wind up with a double.

Yea that tree has ruined some good rounds in it's day. If you can hit a high cut driver over it that's the play.

Number 17 at my home course. Short par four. Water left, woods right. Best way is a wood or hybrid off the tee, shoot for 220 on the right side to avoid the clump of trees next to the pond. Two tiered green is then 110 away and 40 feet up a hill. Leave it short and put it in the front bunker. Go long, and risk your chip or putt coming down off the top tier and rolling down the hill or in the bunker.

Β

For a 330ish par 4, it's a killer.
