Confessions 12 --- Exploding Heads

Matt I haven't done it yet. I was just bringing the length to 3 wood length. If o cut down my driver, it's going to 43.5 ish. But I need to find a heavier driver shaft or a completely raw non tipped "3wood" shaft at 70-80grams. That way when cut down should weight roughly 10-15 grams lighter and then I can get a decent sw back by adding a little head weight. I figured at 43.5" I will need roughly the head to weigh 210-215 ish. This is all being done in my head haha with my "experience" of club building in the past few years. I won't be able to do this soon bough. I have to get my fgtour 100s shafted up with the px LZ 5.5.

Have to wait because I'm actually paying for this. I've never done bore thru and while I hear it's not that bad, I don't have the tools to make it nice and respectable for the finishing touches

Forever Changing at this point.......

Don't forget that all that extra head weight is gonna make the shaft play a little softer most likely, so depending on what you get. You may need to do some extra tip trimming or go an extra flex stiffer to account for the heavier head :)

I really need to stop getting 3 day weekends when it rains.

Too rainy for golf.

Too rainy for motorcycles.

Too rainy for hiking.

Too rainy for shooting.

But it's not too rainy to go on eBay and spend way too much money on a single length iron experiment. Dear holy goodness what am I doing lately?

Help.

Time for an intervention here. Not saying single length doesn't have merits, but it has some fundamental issues too that make it worse than progressive length irons.

So to start, WTF are you doing and what is your 'problem statement' with why you think you should go down the single length road?

Idle minds are the devil's playpen.

I'm a curious type.

LOL I can't solve that problem. Good luck!

They're rather custom. Lots of work into them. Called the builder and confirmed.

They're not Cobra. Nor are they birthed from the loins of your favorite club maker.

You'll like them, I reckon.

Thx PJ and dan. I'm all good and LOL not in any WRX 'trouble'. I just want to focus more on real world golf experiences rather than WRX virtual experiences.

Good to hear it's nothing more serious than the delusion of golf on the course being more fun than on the internet forums! :D

I had a fun time refereeing the junior tournament on Monday. The kids could really swing the club, I was especially impressed with the smallest girls (the tournament was open for as young as 8), they really showed how most grown-up men simply use brute force to get the ball flying. The kids were also much more willing to contact me when they didn't know how to proceed so I actually had things to do. Although mostly mundane, there were a couple of cases I needed to verify from the Decisions and one where I would've actually given a wrong penalty hadn't I checked it (regarding removing loose impediments while ball was lifted for identification).

I got my "half-Mickelson" putting stroke working for me, feeling confident over the ball once again on the green. Playing off your front foot and added confidence did lead me to hitting putts way too hard but that should be an easy fix whereas confidence and trusting your line and stroke aren't. Even my swing seemed to improve after some Crossfield videos and working on the swing at home. Of course I forgot to put the 8 iron back into the bag and I counted 6 times I would've used it during my round yesterday. Maybe it was the improved swing or the MP-650 driver but I felt right at home with it as I gave it a chance. Now I need to take the Mizuno and Cobra to the range to battle it out.

If I decide the Mizuno is still better, I might just swap the Cobra for a brand new, waterproof Ogio carrybag I came across in the used clubs "warehouse" at our club. While I don't really need a new back as the Mizuno Tour Cart bag is perfect and my Ogio carry bag is the best I've come across, the waterproof bag 70% off, so this would be the time to get one. It also has all the bells and whistles I'd want from a carry bag including the Woode top.

Of course the big question is whether it's a bigger hassle to empty your normal bag after a round in the rain than to move your gear from one bag to another in case there's a chance it rains? Of course the true WRX answer is to have both bags always ready to go with full sets and all the accessories. :D

Had a great round today. Double bogeyed two and was thinking just another junk score, but then I got one back on 5 and bogeyed 9 to finish the front 2 over. Shot even par on the back nine for my first round under 80 on my home course. Left 3 birdie putts in the jaws just a rotation or two short. Always feel like you leave a couple out there...

Hey Fellers!! I got a new experiment on the go today. Over Christmas I had picked up a Bertha Mini 1.5 in 12* with a Kuro Kage 60x shaft at GolfTown. I liked the club but it just couldn't put my Driver out of its place. They were around the same distance(Driver maybe 5/10y longer), but my Driver was a fair bit more forgiving. Also when swinging that hard, it's nice to have the larger head/face. So I ended just just using the shaft from the Mini in my driver, leaving the Mini head useless at the time. It's been a great combo for me actually, much better than the stock stiff Speeder 565 that came in my driver.

So Saturday I had the Mini head/adapter(dual cog Callaway adapter) put on the Trinity F-75s shaft that came in my RFX 3 wood(single cog Callaway adapter) since I've been running Driver, 5 wood all season and wasn't using it. This is where my experiment comes into play, I like the Trinity shaft in the RFX 3w but the head looks a little small to my eye at 42.5" and its not the most forgiving head either. So I figure why not try the Bigger Mini head I like on the shaft I already know I like? It has to work right?

Well I got the club back today and it looks perfect now, it may need a little lead tape but I can't wait to try it out this weekend. It should be the perfect secondary tee club and still be forgiving for a 3 wood(lofted up to 14*) :)

Plus as a bonus, if I don't like the Mini/Trinity combo, I've now got the DC Callaway adapter on a 3w shaft and can pick up an 815/816 or Epic 3w head to try out now which wasn't an option before. So it's like a Win/Win experiment no matter how it goes :)

My new experiment club is an MP-57 3 iron with an S300 shaft. I had completely forgotten I had the club. I had it bent to 19 degrees and a couple of degrees upright and I hit 7/7 fairways with it today, on a day I was missing greens with 8 and 9 irons. The other clubs were 2/7 FIRs.

I can only hope it wasn't because of the S300 shaft and how the head feels heavier than at the end of a KBS Tour shaft. I'm not too fond of the idea the beat-up, not worth a hundred bucks, MP-32s (S300s) might work better for me than my expensive, nice and shiny MP-4s. :D

I say go for the beat up 32's with the S300's ;) I love the heavy feel my CB's have with the S300 shafts in them, my 690MB's have S300's too. I haven't played a round with them yet though, they still need new grips before they can be played. I've been playing my CB's w/ S300 for 3 or 4 seasons now though and it's a great shaft :)

On another note finally I got to the Range last night for the first time this season lol. I Managed to get a few new swing vids of this seasons swing. I've done this for each of the past few seasons, it's actually kind of fun to watch your swing evolve over a long period time. :)

Backspin truly isn't a good thing.

2nd hole, a short par 3 playing to a bit less than 130 yards today, I tee up the ball about a club length back to give a bit of more "room" to land my PW to a pin sitting in the middle of the green. The wind was blowing from left to right so I aimed a bit left off the flag. Hit the PW well and straight, slightly left of the pin. At the peak of its flight, the wind started to push the ball right, right at the pin. The ball landed about 3 inches short of the flag heading for the hole but the darn ProV1 spun back and left me with an 8-inch birdie putt. Next time I'll be using a Bridgestone e6 or something similar on that hole! :D

The MP-57 "driving iron" worked well again with 2/3 fairways hit. Me and my MP-650 driver came together again on the back nine and it looks like it's time to put the Bio Cell for sale. It's just a shame I traded the 712u 2 iron for it. Oh and the MP-4 seemed good today. Just had to get a bit of rust off yesterday. That's not to say the 32s couldn't have been better though. :)

been around but not posting haha. sorry. I have been trying to get out more and play. Feeling really comfortable with my game overall. consistently staying in the 80s which is a great feeling. My goal for my golf life when I started playing for real about 6 years ago was to be able to post routinely in the 80s by the time I was 40 haha. I guess now it is time to reset my goal a little. I'm contemplating entering a local tournament. Its 54 holes stroke. Big one and usually won by someone shooting like -15 haha. It's on a pretty simple course and not overly long for the established player. They do have different flights so If I enter I obviously just want to play well in my flight. Not sure if its handicapped at all.

Hope everyone had a good 4th and/or canada day

So, ninja double-dog-dared me to bring some older harsh unforgiving nasty blades to our round tomorrow.

And, like any other insecure male, I shall comply. I'm thinking of doubling down with a persimmon driver as well, just because, but he's worried I will be shooting myself in the foot due to the modern ball and it's low spin off the driver.

Discuss.

Nice club. But a persimmon with today's ball (unless you're using a duo or similarly soft ball) would not be a good combo haha. I have heard of some people cracking the laminate on those with today's harder ball.

Nah. Older balls were harder actually. They just spun more. And the wood doesn't have much of a spring effect.

Plus many of the inserts are old and "dry rotted" for lack of a better term. Same with the wood itself. Clubs that haven't had TLC are just like other old piece of wood. A brand new Louisville can take quite a beating. :)

I was carrying 230-240 this morning using range balls. Not as far as my M1 but not horrid in the least.
