Congrats on the fab round DMM. How many birdies? What was the weather like for your round? 

 

I've hit XR Pros before and like them. I'd say yours and mine feature the same amount of forgiveness and about the same amount of  offset if I remember correctly.  At least find one/buy one single iron to demo because the wonderful soft feel one experiences when you find the middle of the club face with this model of Honma's is a sensation no cast clubs could ever match. No Bull. Or come to Asheville and give mine a try and play some golf with me

I was very consistent, two birdies, the rest were pars. 40°, 2" of rain in the last 2 days and 12 mph winds.

I have never been scared of failure. In the Book of Stu FWIW failure is not an option. If I wanted to try something I tried it and at times was not successful but I tried it my way. Even now my mind is a sponge and absorbs and analyzies new information. In my now "golden years" I look back and say about some things at least I tried. Failures I have always shrugged off and had the attitude of WTF? at least I tried

The time to fail and take chances is when you’re young. Most people have been through bad and good times, and times of self-doubt, so you’re not an outlier.

 

If your goal is still to get yourself into IT, you can do that all online now. What a great thing. I know Japan can be difficult because you may not have a big circle of people to influence you, to learn from or find a mentor.

I know that sounds like something that would get me cancelled, but that doesn’t make it untrue.

Even stronger congrats then for you going below par when it hit only 40* degrees out there.

For some they are years of reckoning. Am I having the success I envisioned? Do I need to make

a career change? Am I happy? And the list goes on. Friends and former friends may be doing very

well in their careers and/or raising families and more. A self imposed pressure is felt.

 

I can't offer much except to share a little about myself. I found myself in a similar situation in my

mid 40s. I was fresh off a divorce, my work life was falling short of expectations and I was not

a happy camper. 

 

I made a rash decision to make big changes. I walked away from everything and told my ex wife

to keep it all and I decided to become a truck driver and hit the road. Family members were like

what????? LOL.

 

A year later I was picking up a load at an old run down pillow warehouse in L.A. to take back

east and I saw this fine looking woman about my age backing her truck into the dock. It was

a tough dock to back into so I went over to assist and guide, which is a common courtesy in

the business.

 

We ended up stuck at that place for hours and we talked and talked the whole time. It turned

out she had done what I did. Gone through a divorce and walked away and had started all over

again from scratch.  

 

6 months later we were married. We started driving together as a team and essentially lived

in the truck and stayed in motels when we came back to SoCal for "home time". Here we

were in our mid 40s starting all over from scratch. We knew we needed to make hay, which

we did. We worked our butts off racing all around the country and rarely coming home.

 

Next month we are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. We sold our house in SoCal

in 2004 and moved to Alabama and now we are retired and happy as 2 peas in a pod. 

 

I'm not going to follow up with a bunch of platitudes, etc. I will say this. Cobi, my wife, gave

me something not long after we met that I carried around with me in my truck during our

courtship. It was just a little sticker that said "Miracles happen to those that believe in them".

 

 

 

 

 

 

So yeah I lost this PowerBall lottery but as we have talked about before, like you I hit the jackpot with Mrs. scotee. Love your story!

I had to look at Solomon1’s post and could not agree more. It is good to stir the pot occasionally over on that section of the forum.

 

And Stu, you just have to laugh at the idiots that don’t understand that good putters have always existed. Most of the people I encounter here are more curious about us playing vintage than critical. 
 

We had close to record temperatures here yesterday (21 C with high winds) which resulted in record participation for our annual Nip Tuck tournament with 56 two person teams. This tournament is our version of the greens keepers revenge with at least 6 pins in ridiculous positions, hence the mercy rule of double par for the hole. We created a hickory division with four teams this year and had a little side game for bragging rights. The other teams were amazed that all four of our teams finished in the top half of the field playing 1920’s clubs.

Yes! And it was an honor to meet her when we met up; wow, over 5 years ago now. Time flies!

I have such fond memories of dinner with the 3 of us. Then you and I played the next morning.

By now, everyone has heard of the tornadoes that struck Oklahoma and Texas on 4-Nov.

 

The above photo is the golf course where I learned the game. It was originally built by the WPA in 1940 as a 9-hole and converted to it's current form in 1974 (when I was there) and the back nine was completed in 1998. It has the best greens in the state of any course not named Southern Hills or Oak Tree. The green you see at the bottom of the photo is #6. As you pan to the right, all of those pine trees that separated holes 1, 3, 4, and 5 are destroyed. What a shame.

 

In the whole scheme of things the course seems insignificant as there are over 40 homes and businesses leveled and over 120 additional structures significantly damaged. No fatalities or life threatening injuries though and that's the most important thing.

 We will be in the 70's Monday thru Friday so i will be out every day. And then Mother Nature is going to remind us who is in charge. We will have at least 8 days in a row of highs in the mid to low 40's.

It has been a wonderful Indian summer but we will be in winter this time next week.

One of the perks of working in the hospitality industry is that you are often times fed.  Frequently one can be served the good stuff that you wouldn't make at home. With my mid morning brunch today I enjoyed a pumpkin creme brulee.

Good point and a keen observation BC ! No I'm with you that they would not be too good eaten together.  I ate the eggs, potatoes, and sausage first, then 90 minutes later I enjoyed the custard with a cup of hot tea.
