I posted something only a geezer would in the I&A forum. I’m going to get in trouble, but you guys will probably appreciate the humor and the reality.

 

A beginner bought probably $1,500+ worth of woods, wedges and a Scotty Cameron putter and wants to know if he should buy “players” irons or game improvement irons. You should read some of the replies about MOI, blah, blah, study the vertical CoG, blah, blah, blah.

Glad I am not the only one that likes to wave the red shirt in front of the bull sometime ! It upsets the poor animal immensely to know that some people see the piles in his field as being a measurement of what he is full of. !

Was of the belief there are professional courtesies extended to fellow members of LE.  Active or retired.  An ID card conveniently located under your DL as you hand it to the officer.  Something.  Minimally a F.O.P. sticker prominently displayed in the rear window.

As to your prior point.  Never thought it was prudent to crack wise with an officer if pulled over.  Yes sir, No Sir.  Even if the officer was significantly younger than me.   Courtesy and respect, hoping it would help get me out of a spot.  

 

Was hustling late to golf one morning a couple years back.  Tried to scoot through a light just as it turned red.  Only then did I see the patrol car.  His lights came on, and knew who he was after.  Pulled over on a side street.  He settled in behind me.  Had my license and registration ready.  Took off my sunglasses so he could see my pleading eyes.  "Yes sir, tried to slip through that light.  Dumb.  Running a little late for a tee time."  Checked me out, clean driving record, came back with no ticket.  With the advisement to allow for more time in the future.  And "to hit 'em straight".  Yes, sir.  Thank you, sir.  I will try, sir.  

 

Dodging a potential traffic ticket is one of life's momentary pleasures.

You are correct .....I had a "get out of Jail card"...i am simply not programmed to pass  up a bit of humor when extremely rare chances show up.  He was a good kid...gave me a smile and i am happy it was only a taillight issue !I cannot ever remember LEO's

looking as young as they do today.

Duh!!  Of course...."Get out of Jail" card.  Flew over my head.  Multi-tasking between glancing at the Leo's game, prepping dinner, corralling the chitlins ("Where's Grandma?"), and a brief 'Spanish Pause'.....to peek in on WRX.

Love it! The local WSP trooper in our town was a patient of mine and let me off a couple of times. He often came to his dental appointments in uniform. He carried a large revolver and would pat it and say, "We are not gonna hurt each other today, are we doc?"

@ Fella:  when was the last time the Lions beat the Packers two years in a row  ? i just checked and they have won a few the last ten years. They are 9/12  in that time. That is really good against the Pack ! They looked pretty good today..  The Browns were on a BYE today and still managed to screw it up !!!

Sol, i just went to a retirement seminar and here is this kid, looked about 13 years old

and he is doing the seminar . My missus kept punching me in the ribs because i wasn't really listening to him. He hasn't even seen much of life and is telling older folks how to handle retirement.

For some they are years of reckoning. Am I having the success I envisioned? Do I need to make

a career change? Am I happy? And the list goes on. Friends and former friends may be doing very

well in their careers and/or raising families and more. A self imposed pressure is felt.

 

I can't offer much except to share a little about myself. I found myself in a similar situation in my

mid 40s. I was fresh off a divorce, my work life was falling short of expectations and I was not

a happy camper. 

 

I made a rash decision to make big changes. I walked away from everything and told my ex wife

to keep it all and I decided to become a truck driver and hit the road. Family members were like

what????? LOL.

 

A year later I was picking up a load at an old run down pillow warehouse in L.A. to take back

east and I saw this fine looking woman about my age backing her truck into the dock. It was

a tough dock to back into so I went over to assist and guide, which is a common courtesy in

the business.

 

We ended up stuck at that place for hours and we talked and talked the whole time. It turned

out she had done what I did. Gone through a divorce and walked away and had started all over

again from scratch.  

 

6 months later we were married. We started driving together as a team and essentially lived

in the truck and stayed in motels when we came back to SoCal for "home time". Here we

were in our mid 40s starting all over from scratch. We knew we needed to make hay, which

we did. We worked our butts off racing all around the country and rarely coming home.

 

Next month we are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. We sold our house in SoCal

in 2004 and moved to Alabama and now we are retired and happy as 2 peas in a pod. 

 

I'm not going to follow up with a bunch of platitudes, etc. I will say this. Cobi, my wife, gave

me something not long after we met that I carried around with me in my truck during our

courtship. It was just a little sticker that said "Miracles happen to those that believe in them".

Fun round yesterday,

 

Havn't been on the course for a few weeks and have been busy trying to sort my swing out once and for all. 

 

Shot at 7 over 79 in cold but dry conditions on a very wet golf course. 

 

Hit the ball reasonably, plenty of good shots but a very terrible ones as expected by swing changes. Chipped and putted very wekk overall. A a well fought tripple on the 3rd was not how I wanted to start the round. 

 

Overall it was encouraging but still have a way to go's before it becomes comfortable.

Made me look.  Same for the ED thread.  That Phil thread must date back to the WRX "Big Bang" (2005?).    

 

Could be the beginning of a trend.  Bumping ancient threads just because they can be found.  Especially those that are especially absurdist, or humorous.  (Where's Head on a Stick's ugly clubs confessional?).  Senior WRX'ers with portfolio leading the way.  

 

Grillsters have been known to periodically leave the reservation and stir things up.  Just make sure you leave some bread crumbs so we can follow along.

This and the classics section are the only two I bother with anymore.  I will go and read other threads that are mentioned here, but if I don't get a pointer, I don't bother.  There's just too much, too much...

Looks like the weather situation remains plus, plus in these parts with unseasonably mild weather this week.  Indigenous Summer is upon us!  Hope to play with my men's group twice this week.

Looking good Sco Bro.  Enjoying a cold one in semi-tropical Canadian November climes.  Been extraordinarily nice around here as well.  Considering the time of year.  Playing golf on Wednesday with the buds.  Although don't know why.  Last week was abysmal.  And as I threw the bag (with authority) into my ride, said to myself....that's it.  I'm done with golf for awhile.  But.  One more chance at redemption.  

 

I don't make any equipment decisions without reading relevant opinions and hearsay as to playability.  And if irons, consulting the charts.  You know, informed guessing.

I acutally enjoy going back and rereading some of the old threads that I enjoyed back in the day. 

 

Some were stupid but some had some intersting discussions. Whether you agreed with them or not they were intersting to read and follow. Sadly like many threads on WRX the trolls, keyboards warriors and swing cultists get involved and destroy the discussion.
