It has been said they may actually be an alien life form, but grilled then bathed in olive oil and garlic and served with little potatoes they are just too good to pass up.

It is possible I may try a new place tonight for it.

john deere made $10 billion profit last year.

$10 billion is 100 tons of $100 bills.

it's a stack of dollar bills 2.5 times higher than the iss space station.

but, it's not enough.

moving factories to mexico to make even more money. bye bye workers.

I'm not that far away from the quad cities. Deere laying off 850 people is the last thing that area needs.

I can remember in the late 80s early 90s Caterpillar moved their forklift plants from I think it was Washington State or Oregon to Mexico. Our freight rates dropped drastically too. I flat out refused to haul their cheap freight.

John Deere on the construction end has long time made the excavators in Rumania or Japan. Those used to come in at Norfolk VA and shipped to Kernersville NC and they were in gray primer minus the digging stick. If You wanted Deere it was painted yellow and decaled accordingly. If you wanted Hitachi then it was painted orange and gray and decaled accordingly. The dealer ordered what ever digging stick configuration the customer wanted. That freight paid well I guess because it was wide and heavy. I got on a good deal on that for about 6 months. Hauled new machines equipped for logging to Florida and then would catch one or 2 conversion vans back to the Carolinas.

We used to haul out of the Quad cities quite a bit for both John Deere and Case/ International. The company I was leased to had a yard in Walcott Iowa. They had what they called the Midwest Farm fleet. They had special built trailers to haul combines on. For some reason one year they had problems keeping contractors on that fleet. We ended up dropping our trailer we owned on the yard and pulling a company trailer for like 6 months out of there. When winter came I told them my butt was going back down South. We actually rented a little farm house right down the road from the yard. On that deal you were usually "home" every night. You would unload somewhere in the Midwest and deadhead back and drop the trailer at what ever company the next load was out of. They would load and secure. We made decent money there too. I always liked the people in the Midwest only thing was it was too darn cold in the winter

I just saw I typed 850 props?!! I have to stop posting on my damn phone or pay better attention to what I typed.🤣 Yeah Stu, small town Midwesterners aren't much different than the southern people. Most are very friendly and will go out of their way to help anybody unless you're just a jerk.

heard an in-depth report about how food & beverage companies companies are making more money from changes in packaging than simple shrinkflation.

started with cocoa cola. americans started drinking less about 10 years ago. coke only came in 3 sizes in the u.s. they learned from latin american bottlers that they had 10-12 different sizes.

it’s works great to increase consumption and profitability. smaller cans reduced guilt of people, but they ended up consuming more and paying more per volume. they had a 3 liter bottle, but people never finished it. it went flat, so they bought more.

the key is that people can’t do math. they end up paying more by choosing sizes that frustrate everyone. they get tired of staring at it and figuring which size they wanted.

it’s moved on to all packaged products, things like mayonnaise, catsup, etc., more sizes and more confusion, but always higher consumption and cost per unit.

it’s turned into an important blend of psychology and price analytics. sometimes they have different sizes than competitors to make comparison too hard. differentiating by size instead of product.

Is there a difference between spending 3.00 vs 3.25 for a bottle of sugar water?

The real psychology/physiology the snack makers are leveraging is that of the altered taste profiles of the nation.

A person who primarily craves salt and sugar (over say….a vegetable 🤣) is not going to care if he pays .10 cents more for for a fix

Look at this, isn’t it mind boggling? And none of it with any nutritional value, if fact, quite destructive….

Yep. And while inflation gets politicized, most people aren’t aware that 53% of our current inflation is due to increased corporate profits, not government policies. But we keep buying at the increased prices, so they’re not going away. Good for my investment portfolio, I guess.

The solution? I now buy those 4” white corn tortillas. I bake 4 in the Breville with just a little olive oil. Then they come out crisp like chips but with NO Salt.

But opening that bag o chips is SO much easier! 😛

I'm with you BSC! My chip replacement is roasted chickpeas. Rinse ‘em off, hit ‘em with a little olive oil and seasoning, then throw them under the broiler for about 10 minutes. Crispy and tasty!

Yes, some care must be taken to plan

But it certainly costs nothing and actually saves money to not buy soda, chips, cookies, and all that other packaged processed food

That’s the first step. Eliminate it from the house. Then you can figure it out.

Heres an example. I used to buy Popcorners. Theyre actually not even unhealthy, especially compared to potato chips, but the problem was..

I buy a bag with the intention of eating half the bag, but then the whole thing! 🤣

So, I’m like, I’m not only eating double the calories that I planned for, but I am spending like $120 a month on popcorners!! 🤣

Now I’m in control of the exact portion that I’m eating and it’s 50 cents! Boom just saved 100/month 😬

I think we are saying similar things a different way. Any of us here on a golf forum are incredibly privileged, both in free time and disposable income, to varying extents. My point was for a huge number of people in this country, some combination of time and money constraints prevent them from being able to feed their bodies with stuff that is not ####.

Bread should have like six ingredients.
Chicken breasts shouldn’t measure 36DD.
Chickens don’t have “fingers.” 🤢

The ingredients in lunchmeat... 😱

We try to eat a lot of plants and fish. But fish may be the hardest thing of all. You have to have resources to eat healthy fish. That inexpensive farm-raised salmon or the even cheaper tilapia? Run away!

Yes, eliminating utter garbage from the house — chips, cookies, Cokes, basically all pre-packaged snacks — that is a huge step forward and makes a massive difference. But man, you dig a little further in wanting to eat clean and healthy and you realize how polluted and awful our diet is. 😟

Yes, fish is very expensive and even getting good fish is difficult for many people.

One thing that is an ingrained but falsehood we have in the US is that a meal must contain a large portion of animal protein.

In many countries, very small amounts, if any animal protein may constitute many or most meals.

Like in Asia and many parts of Europe, South America too, for decades and centuries there was no access to all this beef pork and even chicken that’s distributed across the globe now.

People ate pasta or rice and some type of grain with like 1/4 or less of animal protein most Americans would consider a “portion”. Or just no animal protein at all!

Beef? There people all over the world for generations never eat a steak! No cows around lol

Prolly the best bang for the buck for healthy animal protein is boneless skinless chicken thighs! They like $4 a pound!

If we were very cost conscious I bet we could make a big pot of delicious chicken thighs diced up and seasoned and a whole lot of rice! Bet a nice serving of that would cost $3. Then like some good green veg, there’s an expense prolly couple bucks for good portion.

Way more plants, way less animal, and nothing prepackaged. That’s the way. I’m both privileged and grateful that we can do that with $$, time, and access.

I’d like to know the size of the US population who has access to shop for food at Wal Mart 🤢 or Dollar General 🤢🤢 and no other realistic options. Makes it hard to eat right when that’s your access. 🙁

I find it dubious that people can drive to a store and buy chips soda and McDonald’s

But can’t drive to a store and buy rice, beans, and chicken and make a healthy meal and wash it down with water for a fraction of the cost.

It’s simply modified taste altered by salt and sugar that makes healthy food less appealing
