I can hear it, that lady hears you “yeah sure!” and she’s all eyebrows raised like “oh, he trippin’, I’ma show this boy now!”

Also, post just made in the “unpopular opinions” thread you might like. 😂

We haven’t gone out for Thai in a while but we’d go and I’d start eatin and you know how it’s addictive and you keep gettin hotter but can’t stop eating it!

For some reason the backs of my hands get itchy and then the top of my head starts sweating and wife be like

Press the napkin on your head!

So I do it and then hold it up too the light and there’s like a Rorschach pattern of sweat on the napkin 🤣

Thanks! I do know about that guy…..the person I used to work with (in Atlanta) knows him very well, buys seeds from him and so forth. His peppers are just too off the damn chain for me!

Me too.  He eats them like it’s candy though.  And makes fun of Mike R for thinking a cayenne is hot. 🤣

There was this old guy who owned several appliance stores in our area. He and the Old Man were partners in a bookie business. Step Mom used to make her own Eastern NC style BBQ sauce for baked chicken breasts. She would give him a towel at the start. Now that stuff was hot. He would sit there eating with sweat rolling off his bald head. "OMG this is the best chicken I have ever ate"

checkout this craziness. 2-3 batters in the box at one time and then a brawl.  70s baseball.  That entertainment !

I remember watching him as a kid!

70s were a glorious time for baseball. I was like 6 years old when I started watching in 1974 and watched baseball religiously!

I had every baseball card, probably knew every player in the league

Amazing characters and rivalries. Ones team you had to worry about

The Big Red Machine!

Look at this lineup, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Pete Rose, Ken Griffey Sr.

you might not know the rest of the guys, but they were all really good! They swept the Yankees in 76 World Series

solo’s tuesday stuff.

93% of all clothing sold in the usa is made overseas. “performance textiles” use shredded old water bottles. plastic clothes.

42% of americans with an ev say they will not buy another one.

last year was the hottest on record since 1850. every month since june 2023 has been hotter than last year. now is probably the coolest you’ll ever know.

image.jpeg.830a54feaed3082580113aab0b86e5f4.jpeg

combining the prediction models used 20 years ago into a mean and comparing to data shows the mean prediction was accurate.

americans owe $1.2 trillion in car loan debt. who would have thought people would pay higher interest rates than mortgages for a depreciating asset that costs more than a house 40 years ago? but, people like new cars. 🙂

I can’t get over the price increase since my last new purchase in 2012.  To buy a comparable pickup now is an over $60k.  I paid $42k. And that was a splurge more than  I wanted to do , and wouldn’t have if not for the 0% rate.

Will say. My YouTube feed is now half EV fires. You click on one and they keep coming.

I can only speak for myself but I would rather wear PFA's than drink/eat them.

Low key I am a car guy.  The '11 Prius doesn't represent my desire to have a new car.  But the prices, the rates, the everything about buying a car overrides my desire for a newer vehicle.  As I hurtle toward retirement I just don't see the need to go back under the payment schedule, and I can't justify dropping $X knowing within 2 months it is worth $X/25.

beard is not a factor because of popularity now. they look close, but not true doppelgängers. differences with ears, nose, distance between eyes, jaw line are seen.

doppelgänger odds are similar to winning the lottery, but people do win the lottery all the time. the fact that we have life on our planet are greater odds, but here we are.

but they sure do look alike!

apparently the #1 reason for not buying another ev is the pita of charging.

another fun fact to try to envision the vastness of space. we’re about 2/3rds out from the milky way center. if we took off and headed along the plane of the milky way at star trek warp speed to the other side of the galaxy, we wouldn’t hit another star, planet or moon. the density in space is so low.

I just can’t grasp why anyone would buy one today without the capability to charge at home, and if you can charge at home, after maybe a week of adjustment I never even think about it. I do get questions:

How many miles do you drive?
In a heavy month 1,000. Most months less.

Didn’t your power bill go way up?
I’m sure it did a little bit but not enough where I even notice. Probably $25-$30? I have AC this time of year, hot tub outside, the charging is inconsequential.

How long does it take to charge?

No idea. I plug up when I go to bed, and in the AM it’s at whatever max charge I selected.

There are occasional inconveniences. Where I live are minimal public chargers. Other places (SoCal as an example) have lots, but they are far more busy. I drove to and from South Jersey a few weeks ago and the charge stops in rural PA were seamless. The spot there near Princeton was terrible. I’m going up to Williamsport next month and will probably rent a car because there is nada up there. When the Tesla network is available that issue will go away, but that’s next year. I don’t take lots of road trips.

Everyone’s use varies. For me, the driving experience is so far superior to anything else I was considering, the occasional inconvenience is a trade off I’m totally ok with.

I don't get the Tesla love at all.  Set aside the goofy guy (IMO) at the helm, but we know China is about the flood the globe with a $10,000 EV.  Even with the increased tariffs to get it into Europe the Economist projected a sale price of 18-20,000.  How is Tesla going to maintain it's place in the market?  They are already having to lower the MSRP of their models to compete with other manufacturers so I just don't see how they are going to compete on a global scale.

Am I missing something?

Cars have always ultimately been practically a commodity. Used cars are in fact a commodity

This trend continues as we see cars practically all look the same and even lower end cars perform very well.

The real margin is in tech. Tesla grew to dominate the market by synthesizing all the tech to make an EV and scale it into the public far faster and more effectively than car companies that have been around for 100 years

Now as EVs become “regular” cars, they will pivot to Autonomous vehicles to drive growth

An enormous undertaking and one they can lead in because of the engineering focused, less bureaucratic culture.

As I see it….in 50 years

Far fewer people will own their own cars in urban and even suburban areas.

There will just be huge grids of autonomous cars moving around and you subscribe to them like a service .

You need a car, you just order one or have a plan that includes all the places you need to go.

I can’t give an informed opinion on TSLA as I’ve not studied the financials or the guidance.

I can give an informed opinion on the product — rented one for 2 weeks to see if such a vehicle would work for me. There were things I liked about it. Had the RWD standard range Model 3 and even that stripper was properly quick. The software is very good, intuitive, and quick. The Tesla charging is totally frictionless and could not be easier. Trunk is massive for a small/mid sized sedan.

The drive experience got old quickly. Interior is shockingly cheap. It’s not “luxury minimalist” by any means. That’s Volvo’s wheelhouse. Material quality unimpressive, uncomfortable seats, I just did not enjoy that at all. Ride quality was quite punishing even when I tried airing down the tires a bit.

The Tesla software is a better user experience than the Hyundai I bought. The hard product is 100x better in the Hyundai.

Accordingly, keeping my 2002 in good shape and running just looks better and better. Sure, I just had to throw a few hundred dollars at it, but doing that once a year instead of monthly is just good math.

Once a few thousand of the Chinese ones implode and burn homes down. They’ll rethink the knockoff route. My opinion.

That being said. There’s a video of a Tesla burning at an intersection where the guy narrates and says he has to kick the side glass out because it wouldn’t let him out of the car ?  I’m not versed on Tesla features. So I don’t know. Does it lock you in when loss of power is experienced?     I’d link the video. But the owner has it copyrighted or something to stay in YouTube. You can find it by searching “ Tesla fires”.  It’s a blue one in a city intersection.  Burning down.  thats my main issue.  To charge id have to park in or near the  house.  I wouldn’t park any car in or near my house. I park 50 or so feet away minimum.  Any car in my shop does not have the battery hooked up unless in use and supervised. Car fires are quick and very hard to put out. EV fires are near impossible to put out for the home owner.  No thanks.  Once you experience one car fire. You know. And I have.

Whether you drive an EV or gas, I just saw an ad for a product that no car should be without.  It is a small, handheld device that is specifically designed for smashing your car windows when you have been in an accident that results in your car being submerged in water.  I don't know how many times I have been involved in exactly this type of situation and wished I had the proper tool for extracting myself.   But no, there I am fumbling with my safety hammer (which I always carry, of course), when I could have been easily freed and swimming to the surface for life giving air.   I am going to order one at once.  Or possibly two since I would only have to pay for the additional postage and handling.

EV’s just don’t work for me in West right now. I may drive one day to the West Slope, another take my dirt bikes to Utah, or haul the raft trailer to Idaho. Even around town my driving distance, and time to recharge at home, is unpredictable.

It’s even worse in cold winter temps.

Robotaxis. Anyone that believes any of the horsesiht that clowns says deserves everything that happens to them.

Quote

And in 2019, on a call with institutional investors that would help him raise more than $2 billion, Musk said Tesla would have 1 million robotaxi-ready vehicles on the road in 2020, able to complete 100 hours of driving work per week each, making money for their owners.

Damn, is it 2020 already?! Gonna be a great year!

This just reminded me how much I didn't know about what was to come in 2020 despite the fact that it was right in front of my face (or in my lungs) at the tail end of 2019.

Mrs. RoverTiger and I were spending the holidays in Dresden, and both of us just felt like crap the bulk of the time. It was hitting me especially hard via a cough that just would not quit and a tightness in my chest that I had never encountered. Convinced that it was the emerging plague in hindsight.

Ha! I missed my targeted sub-$100 entry point. Now it’s at 230.

China taking the lead on Robo, Jerry. Their equivalent of Uber (Didi) is mass producing them

China gave approval for Tesla to start testing them there.

China can just mandate this stuff if they like. As dense as the population centers are there, and is cheap as labor/pay is there, makes sense to just have millions of robotaxis roaming around than have everyone own a car.

I had a similar experience. I'd gone to the Genesis Invitational in mid February (meandering through a big, international crowd) and about a week later; I was the absolute sickest I've ever in my life been. Like, out of work for a week, couldn't get out of bed sick. Had to call in my ex-wife to come help with my pups. Didn't get back to normal for a couple weeks. Figured it was a bad case of the flu.

Then, ya know, THAT happened. Never got tested for it but I'm convinced I had it.
