I checked out both courses; I love looking at golf course pics/photo galleries. I have not played a Donald Ross course but I know there are

lots of them. He's the one famous for turtleback greens if I remember correctly. Elk Rapids looks like a great course..........and 2 par 5s too!

And the lake views are gorgeous.

Inverness didn't have a lot of pics but from what I could see looks great also. I'm jealous of the plethora of courses you have up there to

choose from.

Sher, wish billh a speedy recovery from Australia. I know it can be a terrible shock for the partner when this happens, DW Had a medical incident while ago and when you think nothing is wrong and then something comes out of the blue it is a shock. We all in the Grille hope he recovers quickly.

Egos don't go away with age, lol, and neither does the competitive fire. There are very smart people doing very dumb

things every day on golf courses around the world. I have no answer for it............cause..................I am one of them.

On another completely different subject, what has happened to global warming, I have woken this morning to the coldest day in May for 98 years on Australia’s east coast, good job we have a large fire to warm the house. Sitting in bed posting this thinking about getting up and stoking the fire so I will not be in trouble when DW has finished her morning shower.

Good evening to all. I have ‘dropped by’ many times over the past few months. Just checking in to make sure all of you are healthy.

Was really bummed to see that Stu had suffered a serious injury and had been sidelined. Upset to read that Bill just had a medical emergency.

To those dealing with health issues (and I recognize that this isn’t limited to the aforementioned Grillers) I wish you good health in the future.

Congratulations to all who have retired. I have really enjoyed reading about your newfound freedom.

I won’t even bother discussing CV-19 and the current state of affairs, as I think it’s been well documented in the thread, other than to say I hope all continue to avoid the bug.

As Sco has mentioned, courses in Ontario opened this week with restrictions. I have 4 wet rounds in the books. The body is not in any type of golf shape, but the mind is strong and the swing is in surprisingly good condition.

Still passionate about equipment. Let’s just say my collecting has continued in my absence from the Grille. I could outfit two JV football teams with some exceptional gear.

Good to see so many familiar faces still active. I’ll confess that I struggled with the platform change and was on the brink of packing it in entirely. Took a lengthy hiatus and am just starting to lurk again.

Here’s my most recent build. Cleveland Tour Action stripped raw with Accra 100i shafts. Have yet to see a blade of grass.

37fb586a-90b1-484e-8b65-265273b83f4c.jpegPS - love playing from 5500 - 6000 yards. Been putzing around with persimmons and minimalist setups. Going to tee it up with a friend in a virtual version of the Oil Hardened Classic in June. Should be good fun.

Long winded posts are always welcome in the Grille, it’s what we do best. Nice to see you back, several Grillers are finding their way here again now the site seems to be settling down.

How is Ethan going with his art work, has he got over his repulsion of girls yet and started lessons again?, my art work took a hit recently but am back now and starting to produce again, don’t stay away too long your contribution is appreciated. ?

PD it's so good to see you back again. Thanks for mentioning the retirement good wishes. I've always loved your avatar. It reminds me of when I would take my son golfing with me when he was a child, and also to the Memorial Tournament which was this weekend. We always had such a good time as parents with him and our two daughters as we did everything, camping, playing sports, travel, you name it. When our son was very small we got him interested in flying and his grandpa would take him flying, and when computers came out we kept up with the latest flight simulator. So I have to tell a difficult story here, perhaps to help others with their children or grandchildren. Of course he got his pilot's license and we used to fly with him quite a lot. He got a staff position with major auto manufacturer , and got a very nice home and basically had it made as some would say. Everyone liked him so much as his personality was just so likable. However the very day I retired last year, he was arrested for viewing child pornography online. No one knew, it was devastating. After most of the year in the county jail, and lots of court proceedings, he was sentenced to 8 years in prison. Now we get three five minute phone calls a week if he can beat the other 25 guys to the phone in the half hour he has out, but you also have to get a shower. I think I've aged 5 years since then. I've tried to be normal on here, I took a little hiatus for a while when he was sentenced because the weight was just too much, and it can be so difficult to be yourself. DW retired a year early this year, but we have decided to continue to live our lives. He is doing fine, and has a positive attitude. He realizes what he has done, and although he has lost everything (we had to sell all) he is OK with that because he wants to start his life doing what is right and what is good when he gets out. Prison is not comfortable, it's cold when the weather is cold and hot when the weather is hot, you sleep on a concrete slab or a small frame and a thin mattress with one thin blanket with your towel as a pillow. Many times the toilet right next to you in your cell overflows. Locked down for 23 1/2 hours now for COVID, you get baloney sandwiches twice a day. Two of the staff have died of covid along with an inmate and currently 15 are positive. By the way, what you have always heard about prison rape is just not true, he says they are just people wanting to do their time and get out. I'm encouraged that all of the family, and all of his friends still support him completely and love him, and write him telling him they are there for him as we are. So,sorry about the sad story, sometimes people need to share their feelings, I've gotten to where you guys are my only real source of such, sorry about the long post too. I used to be more funny on here too, maybe again too...

Has anyone in the Grille tried to make sour dough bread, for a long time we have made the normal bread, with a machine for the past few years but before that I always made it by hand, nothing beats good home made bread. This past two weeks DW has been fascinated with trying to make sour dough bread, trying to get a starter working has been a pain, but, eventually it worked and today we had our first home made sour dough bread, it was good but for me I do not know if the effort was worth it. In theory now we have an active starter it should be no problem ,we shall see.

And to think that I was going to ask if anyone else was having to login every time they came here?
Doesn't seem like such a big deal now.
[Added] You are very courageous sharing that story with us, @SixtySomePing. I feel for you and your family and especially your son. I can't imagine how you are feeling at this time. Just know that we are here for you.

Yesterday I had to log in every time I came here...............but not today, so maybe the problem is fixed? Yesterday I also had

problems quoting some posts so I could reply to them. I persisted and finally got them done. They must be doing work in

the background and sometimes it affects us here is my guess.

Sold my old set of Ping G15 irons this morning. Fetched a decent price for a 10 year old set I suppose. I rarely used them anyway and the

Orange dots turned out to be a little too flat for me. Since the golf club market seems to be OK I'll probably sell some more of my excess

clubs. Ping G15 4-SW Iron Set Ping AWT Regular Flex Orange dot -1/2" | eBay

Thanks Fella, yes of course like many other stories of addiction, he grew up in a Christian home, in church, was involved in many ministries, was quite the musician. He became the music director and choir director after going to a major Christian University. However to make a long story short, anyone can shatter their own life or have their own life shattered, and it happened to him. Anyway, in the mean time he has been able to recover himself and make the best of his circumstances and use the best of what he truly got from above in the first place to begin helping others. He has been very much a strong spiritual influence on others already and that is what he intends to continue to focus on. So that's what keeps us going is knowing that he is not concerned with what he has lost, but how he can be used for what God can gain through him, which at this point is very good and right.

That must be a horrendous blow for you, its too easy to judge though and its difficult to know what goes through peoples mind when these things happen. All I can hope for you is he has seen the error if his ways and will come out if it without too much damage. From what you have posted, the cost to yourself and DW has been large both financially and emotionally but this is what we do for our children.

Stay strong my friend, we are always here to support you, I know its only words but at least we can give you some comfort. If you need to talk PM me.

Ken,

Over the past year or more there have been many retirement celebrations in the Grille. Your wife's was particularly touching given the circumstances that surrounded the joyous occasion. It pains me to read of the struggles that your family has endured this past year. Very courageous of you to share this intensely personal experience with all. I'm happy to read that your support network remains strong and that your son has chosen to refocus and rededicate himself. I offer my best wishes to all.

Mike

Tol,

Ethan still has his 'cootie shot', although I suspect that he's beginning to 'notice' the beauty in others. Simply want him to find happiness with a partner that compliments him someday. He's a pretty cool cat at 10, so I'm interested to see how his life plays out.

As for his artwork . . . the classes that he attended ended last year as the business closed its doors. He's been reading a series called Wings of Fire, which focuses on dragons, and as a result his current artwork has focused on mythical beasts. Still doodles like crazy, but he hasn't painted a great deal.

When your his age it seems that interests are pulled in many directions.

Trying to get him onto a golf course. We purchased a new bag in the spring and then CV hit and we haven't been able to get out. In due time.

Thank you for the update, I suppose at 10 dedication to one subject is difficult as so many other things pass you by. Whatever he ends up doing I am sure he will be good at it. Give him my best wishes for the future pursuits he decides are for him, I know even now at 78 my attention can easily be distracted from my intended goal.

Thanks Mike, we will make it through, it's amazing what people can accomplish when given the opportunity to either give up or endure. One thing I've always said in life is 'people are more important than things'... So with Brian, when we had to sell his house, his car, and everything he owned basically, it didn't bother in at all. He lost a tremendously good job. His only concern was to get this out of his life and get right again with God. He is actually happy that he got this off of his chest, and said he feels free for the first time in a long time. Unusual for someone in prison to say, but I understand what he is saying coming from him now. He has scraped the slate clean so to speak, and is making the best of what some would think of as bad circumstances. He told me a couple of months ago 'I have patience just like you' and I said yeah when I used to bow hunt I could sit up in my stand for hours waiting and not make a peep', and he said, 'yeah, now multiply that times 8 years'... so we both laughed... he still has his sense of humor...

I appreciate the support from you my Grille friends. Brian isn't taking all of this lightly, he has owned up to this. It started with an outside influence no one was aware of, however people make choices and you can't place blame on anyone but yourself when you make the wrong choice for your own life. I will say the prosecutor and the media were very rough and unfair and came down on him in an extremely unkind way. He made no physical contact with anyone, and sold nothing online, it was just a matter of viewing. But they convinced the judge that he needed 8 years, even though similar cases got very little time at all. He had no record, not even traffic violations. Anyway, he's there for a purpose is the way he sees it, and if he can use that purpose in a positive way, then it is worth it.

Meanwhile, let the golf continue. Hopefully things will begin to get back to normal. ?
