Round grip on a putter?

I'm curious if anyone has tried this? Doesn't edel use round grips on some of their putters?

 

I'm always looking for something new to try just for kicks and I thought that this would be something to try. I feel like it might let my hands flow a little smoother through the stroke.

I put a round grip on a putter to try it out. The reasoning behind it and while Edel does it is because you don't have to get it perfectly straight like you would with a traditional putter grip with a flat top. In theory if the flat part of the grip is off by a degree or two it could have an effect on how you line up your putter and where the face is pointing at impact. It's a pretty cheap experiment to try. I used one for a while and it felt more natural to me. I changed it to a ultra slim which is fairly round at the top also. But has a "flatter" part for my thumbs.

I use one (standard iron grip). I found it simplifies things.

 

I will be switching to a super stroke, but only because I have an itch to buy a new putter. Nothing seems to beat my old anser putter though. This at least fills that need.

Had a round grip growing up and now have a flat. the flat makes it easier to line up the put but the round feels more natural in my hand.

I have a custom Edel with their round grip. I also have other putters with super stroke, bulls eye and various other grips. Honestly, I prefer the round grip but I like it larger than standard. This Equalizer grip is the one that is my favorite:

I've had one on all season. Winn excel #7 jumbo. I built up the bottom hand so there is no taper. I wouldn't say I putt any better or worse. I grip my own clubs, but always thought I put the putter grip on crooked so this was my solution. I also hate looking down at a logo. Golfworks sells a G1 non taper that would be perfect to try

12 layers of 2 inch wide masking tape. The overlap of the tape at the bottom takes the taper out of the shaft.

I have one, its heavy 100gr if I remember right. It is more of a midsize grip as well.

Whoah! 100g? Never mind, texture looked nice but I tried a big dog Pure grip which was 120g and it made the putter feel terrible. That's too bad I was hoping for something between a Pingman and Pistolini.

The older SuperStroke Ultra Slim 1.0, (the rubber grip), was pretty close to being round. I have small hands and really like this grip. I recently got a couple from Golfworks for 9.99 because it looks like they are being phased out.

I use the jumbo version of the grips I use on the rest of my clubs....GP CP2 Wrap. Works for me.

I've always thought it odd that 13 of your clubs have one grip and the other is different.

The logic is sound (as dust devil) mentioned but how I grip my putter and swing it is nothing like my "swinging" clubs. Hence the flat grip. The round grips allow the wrists to be more free which is good in swinging clubs but deadly in the putter. By the trend of putter grip technology, they are getting flatter not more round.

For me it's a feel thing... my mind gets tripped up when I feel the ridges on most non-round putters grips and I feel like I don't have even constant pressure. I do like the feel of the Ping AVS pp58 though.

I just got an edel with the round grip...one round and 36 putts later, it will be coming off! It was very hard to line up so I actually ordered the superstroke square to replace it. I'm thinking it will be similar theory of the flat cat grip and provide some feel of the face angle.

I demoed the round Edel grip a while back and liked it but not enough to buy it. I had a JumboMax grip laying around and decided to put it on my backup putter. So far after a handful of putts in my garage I like it. Only thing that feels strange is having to focus on short putts. Usually they're pretty automatic and I don't spend much time on my setup. Now I have to concentrate more on the face alignment.

Every antique putter i have (built prior to 1930) has a round leather putter grip. I always sort of laugh to myself as i fool around with them on my home putting green how well i putt with them. Might be something to the round grip. give that putter a leather wrap, you can always change it back!

I used a round Edel grip for a couple of years - it works - don't need to worry if putter grip is installed correctly. BUT it depends on how you grip your hands on the putter - I changed my grip and out went the round.

I have been using round grips for almost 8 years now, on an antique blade with wrapped leather. Much thinner than most modern putter grips too. Really simplifies the connection between hand and club for me. It's seen good results for me at least!
