Mizuno JPX 900 Tour irons

I was able to get out and hit the jpx 900 tours with c taper 130x soft stepped against my gamers, ping iblades. When I hit the demo club against my own, it was clearly longer, and tight dispersion. The tours feel fantastic and after comparing on course, I can't say one set is better than the other. I went back and forth, and the best strikes shined, it didnt matter which head i used. Now I do have different shafts in each, but the demo 900 tour with c taper easily beat out my 6 iron. What I can say is that loft for loft, the jpx is longer, because the loft is higher. I had to bend my pings strong to get just equal distance from the jpx tour.

Some things I may note about the two:

Looks: 900 tour, these look so good. I love satin irons, and these are the cream of the crop in the looks department. C tapers also add to the look, and look great.

Feel: 900 tour. Nice and soft, and solid. I mean they are forged.....

Distance; edge to 900 tour, just because my pings are strong lofted and distance head to head seems to be equal.

Ball flight: kinda hard to compare the heads with different shafts, but I feel like the c taper keeps the flight penetrating in the 900 tour. Both irons are easy to hit, not a lot off mis hits with either.

Dispersion: same.

Picture kinda sums it up, btw, the pin was not my target distance here, you can see all the shots on this hole, 2 with each iron, we're within a yard or so of each other....

Given all that, and the tours are worth more because they are new, i will put them on the BST. The 5, 7, and 8 are still in plastic! Anyone interested, shoot me a pm....

Thank you Deuce, for the good comparison.

Can you please go little more in detail in terms of forgiveness?

From your point of view, are they similar or is anyone slightly or significantly more friendly?

I'm leaning between JPX 900 Tours and Srixon Z765 with Nippon 105S.

Thanks, Andreas

Forgiveness wise, the 900 tour were same as my iblades. They are forgiving for their size. More forgiving than a blade, similar to mp5, etc.

For me, I didn't have any issues with mishits. I didn't ever think when hitting them that they are hard to hit, unforgiving, etc. For me they are easy to hit. From 4 iron, to 6, to 9 iron, never thought I could use more forgiveness. I actually thought when I hit the forged, they were harder to control than the tours. Tours are very consistent and forgiving just like my iblades...which are also 4-9 iron...

I'm really curious about the guys losing distance with the LZ shaft. What type of swing do you guys have and average carry distance with your irons?

I only ask because I've played c taper s+ and s400 in cobra mb and x100 in miura baby blades and now the 900 tours with LZ 6.5 and all are about the same for me in distance. I haven't worried about swing speed in a long time but my 8 iron is my 165 club with a high flight. The LZ just feels smoother to me then the c tapers.

Deuce.....which one is easier to hit....MP-5 or the 900 Tour? In your opinion.

For me, I thought the 900 tour. But not by much. Others on here have said the opposite, but they are very close together either way. Negligible difference really...

No idea what my swing speed is with a 6 iron, wouldn't matter on this site anyways b/c it'd either be laughed at for being fake or mocked in some other fashion, so I will steer clear of that for now.

Nevertheless, to try and help the best I can, weather/wind/course conditions pending I would typically play my 6 iron as my 190 club give or take a few yards. I wasn't sniffing 190 with the LZ even after roll out on the monitors, which is always funny to me b/c I've never seen any of my iron shots "roll out" on a course. I've demoed other 6 irons (Srixon Z765 Standard PX 6.5) and had zero issue exceeding 200 yards on the monitor with total distance.

I get there is always some discrepancies in lofts and such, and I do know I'm a very high spin iron player, so not sure if this has anything to do with the LZs not being the best option for me. Sure there are people smarter than me on here who can speak to the make up of those shafts. At the end of the day for me the 900 Tours were a beautiful club that just left me feeling like I was crazy for not being in love them.

This is identical to my experience, and it may well have been just a bad shaft pairing for me. I felt dirty selling them, hated packing them up, and want to try them again, they just look so good, and feel spectacular, along with flowing perfectly with the T7's. I will never make it through the whole winter without buying a single with my 130X, such is the life of a ho....

Hi, I have them with the LZ in and I'm massively short, over a club length, I have some black golds hanging around so was thinking of switching the shafts, I was that disappointed I'm selling them too.

are you selling these? If so shoot me a PM. Might be interested

My 6 iron length is approx 180, I'm not the tallest of people but I have always used C-taper, black golds, kbs tours etc all in stiff and even both project x flighted/normal/pxi 6.0 and had no problems, my irons do not feel like the demo iron I was fitted with, they feel lifeless and dead, no kick at all.

Even though I like the shaft I have to admit that they shaft did feel like it was kicking more in the demo 6.5. I wouldn't say dead and lifeless just not as much.

Finally, went today to a fitting. Compared JPX 900 Tour to my MP-5. The 900 Tour are soft, very soft. As soft as MP-5. I found them little more forgiving.

I went with 900 Tour 4-PW and Modus 105 X-Stiff as well as T-5 52° and 58° Modus 105 Wedge shafts.

FYI: Mizuno DNA was 86-4-5-5-6, my swing speed between 84-88 mph.

I really liked the stability and smoothness of Modus 105 shaft. The X-Stiff felt overall more weight-stable through the shaft where as the Stiff one felt little more head-heavy.

Also tested PX LZ5.5 (very good!), PX5.5 (also very good, not so harsh as many claim), XP 115 S (good, but not as smooth as Nippon), C-Taper Light 110 S (also good, but when not hitting the sweet spot a little more harsh), Nippon 120 S (good, but was not as stable as 105), KSB 90 S.

so yesterday i went out club testing not really focusing on finite details but hitting lots of different heads and where possible all with the same shafts, and i can say that the feel of the JPX 900 tours is absolutely fantastic, a cut above everything else i hit that day even compared to other mizunos.

i hit the titleist mb & cb heads

the taylormade psi & psi forged

the ping i blade

and mizuno mp 25, mp 5 and obviously the jpx 900 tours

they really were great, the turf interaction was fantastic, even between the mp 5 and the jpx there was a noticeable improvement in feel and turf interaction very impressive, and they look great

How did they compare on distance forgiveness on toe hits and thin hits?

I hit the 900 Tour today with XP 105s, Project X Lzi 5.5 and Nippon Modus 105 X. Loved the Modus 105x. Perfect trajectory and super smooth feel. XP were ok but trajectory was too high. the LZi felt great but went nowhere. At least a club short , which seems to be a common story on here.

Really like these clubs but a bit worried about long term performance on the course. Feel like I "should" buy something more forgiving like 716 AP2 but that really does nothing for me. MP25 did nothing for me either. Currently playing 714 AP2 and SLX100 and the 900 Tour is the first iron that has made me seriously think about changing...

Good call. Unfortunately my club's pro shop, does.not stock Srixon clubs. So, I tried the JPX 900 Forged today. Holy Sh$t do those things fly compared to my 714AP2. These days 175-180 is a good 6 iron for me and the Ap2. These 900 forged with Nippon Modus 105 X were 190 -195. That's a bit better than my Ap2 5 iron! Incredibly easy to hit and very consistent. Yeah - nowhere near as sexy looking as the tours and I worry what the 9 iron and PW would be like but they have my attention!

Which driving iron are you guys using with the 900 Tours? I like to have a matching brand driving iron as my irons and have been thinking of getting the Forged 4 iron and bending it 2 degrees strong.

FYI - The Forged are already pretty strong lofted compared to the Tour (+2 to 3 degs). You may not even need to bend strong to get some serious length. After playing AP2 models since 2008 I was gob-smacked by how much longer the Forged were....

Also you could try the 900 Hot metal model - supposedly just as long as Forged but a little higher launching and more forgiving. Sounds perfect for driving iron!

Yeah that's why I was thinking to carry two 4 irons, one forged, and one tour. 4 iron at 21* and bend it to 19* or so.

Anymore updates and feedback on the 900 Tours (or even the 900 Forged)? I spent over an hour on our range hitting the Tour and Forged 6 irons on Weds both with Modus 105x - NXT Tour Range balls. Doing a comparison head to head the Tour feels so much better than the Forged but it's noticeably less forgiving and maybe 1/2 to 3/4 club shorter.

Once you start hitting the Forged you do quickly get used to the somewhat harder feeling and to be honest it's really no different to the feel of my Ap2s. Plus the length and forgiveness is hard to argue with.

So my dilemma is do I just get a whole set of Forged or do I combo in Tours for 8 to PW and if so how do I bend the irons to transistion these? Or in true WRX style maybe I just buy both sets :)

Just go buy a set of MP5's. They feel better than either and are more forgiving up and down the face then the 900 Tour. A lot of talk about the look of the 9-P, but feel and performance easily trump that.
